You are pretty ignorant. Hollywood's big budget has nothing to do with the success of a horror movie. Hammer Productions and Giallo movies were way better than the conventional Hollywood cinema. The Exploitation genre, the independent slasher genre starting with Black Christmas launched the contemporary genres. Watch cult classics like Burnt Offerings, Drive In Massacre, The Sentinel, The Changeling. All of them were made outside the conventional Hollywood system. Don't brag just for the sake of being cool....

Sometimes a statement needs all the proofs it can actually muster. This is just one of those instances. Drive in Massacre and Torso are two of my all time favourite movies.. But as you said, they're cult classics.. ergo by definition only popular within a certain group of the society. Please don’t assume I haven’t watched movies like black Christmas just because I don’t mention them here. But those were path breakers in their own right. So much so that they've become inspirations for later horror cinema, by your own words. And by indian movie standards, the subject choice and the style of representation this movie chooses is indeed worthy of being called path breaking. Hence I've labelled it as such. This story is a 17th century folklore published in a Malayalam book called Aithihya mala. This has many such folklore stories. Also the family and the mansion is still present near Kottayam. The character names are changed from the original.

I watched this movie in Malayalam with English Subtitles and I don't regret it. Black & White Colour grading enhanced viewing experience and hat's off to Mammootty Sir for doing such experiments in every genre with Content Driven films at this age & this movie is best example that Budget doesn't matter but the the amount of effort you put to create a Horror scene is much needed. Malayalam cinema is continuously bringing top notch content driven films and many are truly Oscar Worthy in many categories. Bramayugam Sequel should definitely come but this time should be promoted well in Hindi Market as well❤️

I think potti, actually in a way didn't defeated chattan but trapped him and made that the lamp if diminished would end chattan's life .Thus he couldn't escape. But when cook and Thevan destroyed the place Chattan could escape.

The story is deeply rooted in folklore of Kerala. The supernatural characters of Chaathan and Yakshi is deeply ingrained in the culture (like that of Bhooth/Chudail in other parts of India). Casteism was heavily prevalent back in those days where the upper castes (Brahmins/Kshatriyas) used to own everything and the lower castes worked hard in their fields and offered services in return of mere sustenance. They were never allowed in the house nor given any rights or liberties. I'm glad we are revisiting such folklores throwing light into the good, bad and ugly sides of our culture.

I don't think blaming on one without any proof would be helpful in fixing it. It's still present amongst Lower classes too. It was more prevalent between uppermost and lowermost. Chieftains and Brahmin priest used to work as merchants. Jenmies became prevalent in 11th century tho it existed but wasn't prevalent. These thing can't be said about overall timeline of Kerala. I think the movie didn't need to reveal the whole story of the ring. Like jab past batate h to kah sakte the ki chattan ko ring se control karte h aur ye ring abhi potti ke paas h. And audience ko ye baad mein pata chalta ki ring chattan ne chura li thi isliye usse koi control nhi kar paya tha. That way twist bhi rehta, chattan kaise powerful hua aur ring ki story bhi include ho jaati.

Chattan might be only getting the talks between people, not sure if he will get mind reading power. It changes with each folklore. Also there are sone rules by which these demons work. Like the OP in video described, he could not kill the cook since he is doing the duty. Its against the rule of chattan to kill him unless life threatening.

I started watching this movie the day before yesterday..was completely hooked to it but had to stop it by interval...as I had to go to the office in the mrng and was already late to bed... The next whole day I was excited to watch the 2nd of the film and while scrolling YT I came across ur vdo.... The way u explained things were too good and just bcoz of That I had to stop ur vdo at the interval again bcoz of ur excellently explaining way.... Yaksh and Yakshini(Yakshi, here) are supernatural beings that come in parallel to asura, deva, gandharava, apsara etc. They are known since ancient times and most relatable lore is in Mahabharat itself where Maharaj Yuddhisthir and Yaksh had a spiritual conversation( but thats for another day). Yaksha's are kind of a race and their King is Kuber(acc. to shashtras); yakshinis are just female counterparts of yakshas. They have supernatural powers and just like human beings, they can be peaceful as well as malignant.
