I whole-heartedly agree! However, if you close your eyes and enjoy the music, you never even see them. I've finally got to listen to this, as it's name implies, for strings, and it takes on such a different feeling versus being sang. @Mad Doc - you're so right...I realize that I should have learned to play SOMETHING in the string family.. @HAUSER - BRAVA!!!!

Hauser: I don't understand how you can play such a variety of different pieces so flawlessly. I guess that is what professional musicians have to do, but you are in another class entirely. It's beyond passion; you are one with the cello and I can feel your heart beating in every performance. Thank you!

Also Hauser does covers too with Lola( pianist ), senorita ( a singer ) and others. I recommend you listen to their duo covers. really epic and beautiful. Watch the cover of him( Hauser is his name ) with Lola doing La La Land cover or Love Story cover with Lola. And his cover of Mariage d'Amour with the cello.

The saddest classical music composed by a 26 years old American prodigy Samuel Barber while studying in Italy in 1936. I always wondered, was he homesick, depressed or simply missing his love? Sure he created a beautiful hymn of mourning and grieving. It's played around the world at funerals, memorials, annoncements of death and tragedy.

This piece is helping me grieve the recent deaths of my mother and aunt. I feel everything when I listen to it. Tension, pain, disbelief, anger, loss, lost, sometimes confused but also loved. After this piece climaxes, I sense resolve. I'm not 100% there yet, but I am doing better.

My father passed from Covid-19. This immensely passionate and turbulent piece allowed me to express my emotions. From the eloquence of the beginning portraying the uneasiness and unknown at the beginning. To the build heart breaking note change and the build up of pain and inevitability. The torment of the tranquility of the aftermath. The last note will resonate and echo forever. Thank you for your performance. Thank you for your passion.

I think Samuel Barber's Adagio expresses the sadness of the 20th century that we humans share. And I believed it was an unhelpful sadness that would never be purified. But Hauser's performance purifies that sadness. It was a great surprise to me and deeply moved. Hauser sublimated his sorrow into a cleansed prayer. And I certainly saw the salvation of the soul beyond that sound. 感動して泣いたよ。ありがとう!

Maria, Godspeed to you and your son .. thank you for raising a child so willing to give of himself and pour our for others. He's doing all he can do and may he be at peace with that. As a pastor of prayer at my church, I have encouraged my flock to be praying for all - first responders and military - for years as a daily discipline and we are redoubling now and hope others do likewise. Lord God, in the name of your Son who ever lives to intercede for us, grant unto these men and women who are your instruments of mercy and grace renewed strength, newer ability, greater wisdom as they face the abyss that daily faces them. Lift them out of their weariness. Be their strength and shield and may their burden and sorrow be given to you and exchanged daily with might and trust in You. Help our fallen world and bless Maria and all the other Marias beholding their beloved risking their lives to save others. Be their strength and song.

Someone said here in the comments that it’s as if he is holding someone he loves, someone who is dying in his arms. Such a perfect description. It really is sublime, the tone he gets in the high notes in the crescendo...such passion and pain and release. The soothing lower register afterwards, like a balm on your soul. Haunting. Just beautiful. I play the cello (nowhere near his standard, obviously) and it is an intensely personal thing. You embrace the cello. You hold it against you. You feel every vibration. It cries and you cry with it. That connection is profound. No other instrument is like it. The cello is the closest register to the human voice, and that definitely comes into the magnitude of emotion that it can convey when played so beautifully... My cello has a name for a reason. It lives when I play, and I feel its life under my hands and against me, like a living thing. Magical. I can’t explain it.

Hauntingly beautiful, Hauser is at one with his instrument and the best cellist I've ever heard and I'm 60 now. This is better than the orchestral version, a performance for the history books. It's become clear to me that Western culture will survive in the east. Thank you, never stop playing.

Agree. It's dead in the West, thriving in E. Europe and E. Asia. Witness S. Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. Even the "Communist Bloc" countries of Asia are bringing more to Western Classical music than W. Europe and the Americas. Shame on us.
