I found your video a helluva lot more helpful than the instructions! It's really not something I'd want to have to do in the field & I bought their plastic blade changer and promptly lost it. I love using them but hate changing blades.

Thanks so much for posting this video on how to change the blade. Broke the knife blade on an elk this year and like you said the hands being bloody was an accident ready to happen. Tooth pick is a great idea and worked really slick. Thanks again!

Excellent tip! I also always wear a kevlar/steel mesh fillet glove on my non-cutting hand just in case there is a knife slip. I hunt moose up in Alaska and it usually takes me 4 hours to solo butcher a big bull in the dark, often wet and slippery conditions. Always carry 2 headlamps too.

Glad you liked it and thanks for stopping by. How do you manage the big bears, while butchering in the Alaska dark? I heard they have been conditioned to look for food after they hear a shot.

Just another one of these, "duh! Why didn't I think of that?" moments. I love my Havalon knives (own a few of them) but changing blades has always met with trepidation, and I've had my share of close calls. I am definitely going to try this out the next time I have to change a blade. What a great idea, and so simple! Thanks.

Very simple, and very clever. This saves you the four or five stiches you're inevitably going to need in your thumb at some point using the other method. Work smarter not harder. Many thanks.

Thank for saving me stitches ! I have the fillet knife and it rocks ! I would suggest buying a cut resistant glove ( pretty cheap on Ebay ) for your non knife hand...its saved me a few times at the cleaning table.

Great idea Mudtoa Outdoors. I'm always nervous about changing these blades myself. I tired your "toothpick" method and it works beautifully. Thanks for sharing. MDslammer

I have dressed a Javelina with it. It worked fine, it did dull a little toward the end of the skinning. It will definitely work as one blade for a weekend and a deer dressing. It might just not be as sharp as you like. You get spoiled that it is so sharp. I carry the extra blades in the case, so it is ready for rabbits to elk. Changing the blades get easier with practice, but it is always easier at home that in the field.

thanks for the toothpick idea, everybody knows the value of this tip. I carry extra blades in the nylon case and a small leatherman squirt multi tool to pull the blades out. the outdoor edge system is far superior to havalon's system as far as safety and ease of blade changing goes, the blades are close to being equal in sharpness.

I have used the havlons, they are great knives but the outdoor edges version the razor lite is alot easier and safer, it's just push a button and pull the blade out

+Kansas Hunters Thanks I will look at the razor lite. How much does yours weigh?

I just ordered one of these on a recommendation from one of my hunting buddies. I had no idea it wa that difficult to change the blades. I was hoping to carry it as my only blade on ultra-light trips. I'll have to see about that when it gets here. Have you dressed any animals with it? I wonder if one blade will do for a weekend trip including a deer dressing.
