I dont think its just the mini 2 i think when they switched to differant satilites and got rid of glonass i think these drones have become hugely unreliable.

Same here, I'm on 01.03.0000, and my fly app is on 1.4.8 (1185) official. I've never had any problems with this, so why fix it. Dji needs to get this sorted out like straight away. 💯👊

What i experienced with my mini 2 is that the connection with the controller suddenly drops and even loses connection. Before when i had a weak signal warning/adjust antennae warning i never lossed connection and was fine after a jitter or two. I find it not a very huge problem but it makes me feel a bit unsure about my mini2 when flying

Used mine at the weekend. Lost signal very quickly and took ages to reach take off mode in the same location as used two weeks ago with no issues.

Maybe you can find another mini 2 with the older firmware and redo the test with the mini 2 on new firmware?

Mini 3 coming so it's DJIs way to get you to buy the newest drone, there is no way the mini 2 should be performing worst after an update unless DJI them selfs want it to be that way for a reason!

Updating to 01.05.0000 made my drone literally unusable. I tried everything. ECS and GPS Errors all over the place, aswell as IMU Calibration errors. Tried to revert/downgrade using your technique but it only gives me an option to refresh the current update, which I did but it had no change. I was on a trip and couldn't do any drone shots becouse of this bs firmware update

Thx for the informative clip. I just bought my mini 2....did all the firmware updates. Inside I had 12 sats. Outside I had zero range problems. Since I can't stand flying with a bloody cell phone I paired a smart controller w the mini. Absolutely no problems with acquiring sats or range issues.

I wish DJI would fix their "Assistant" software, to allow for downgrades to previous versions of firmware. That would solve the problem, until they fix the firmware.

With this new update I ended up the other day flying around the ship and lost signal and the drones was crashed on the boat something that I have done many times before and never happened also twinned up worst I forgot to put return to home altitude higher than the boat

Can you try the same tests again but locked to 2.4GHz please? 5GHz is obviously very, very LoS, so I find that in urban areas, counterintuitively, 2.4GHz works better as the signal penetrates and "bends" around buildings better, where such obstacles completely kill off a 5GHz signal. My Mini 2 remains on the previous firmware, mostly due to the GPS issue (which was a massive pain on my Mavic 3, but that's now allegedly fixed), but if the newest firmware is nobbling signal as well, I'll resist moving for as long as DJI allow. I have achieved 4km with the first half over urban, with my current firmware. Obviously, distance per se is not relevant, but is an indicator into how solid the signal will be when flying closer.

I toke my mini 2 out a few days ago lost connection at 300m away and around 25m High the drone went return to home I then regained control then it was ok after that but its showing some weakness i feel this can make the drone dangerous especially if you hear aircraft approaching and you have no control DJI need a quick fix or please let us have the original software back it putting me off droning

Great video mate! I clicked on this as im trying to search for something, not sure if you can give me any help or advice? So I got my Mini 2 for my outdoors channel in December, used it about 4 times with zero issues and it was absolutely brilliant. Anyway havent used it for 3 months for some personal reasons I wont bore you with. All batteries were stored as recommended and in the recommended charge % Latest firmware update was done two days ago on Tuesday and I took it out with me into the mountains of the Lake District yesterday. Everything seemed ok and can see everything on the screen when I move it about. But as soon as I hit record it freezes the screen and doesn't record anything! Same with quickshots but it does take photos?! I tried turning it on and off, formatting the SD card etc but kept doing it and also said 'gimbal motor overloaded' a few times when it was stationery on the ground not even running? After gimbal calibration it went ok. Any ideas on why it is doing this, freezing and not recording etc? Anything I can do or try? Really appreciate your time taken to read this and any help you can offer. Thanks in advance Chris 👍🏻🙏🏼

Further to my post 8 days ago reporting a bobbing up and down when hovering using the new app but old firmware. Flew again earlier using a different phone that still had the previous app installed. Mini 2 was rock solid, only the expected altitude changes when coming to a stop, went up and then settled back down again. I'd need to check again using the original phone with the new app to see if the issue comes back to be certain but at this stage it would appear my issue is app related. If you any of you have a now troublesome updated mini 2, it might be worth rolling back to the previous app which I think Gavin has a link for and see if that helps with some of the issues currently being put down to the new firmware. Why the app would cause my bobbing issue is beyond me but at this stage it appears to.

As a fresh new Part 107 pilot, I just purchased a Mini 2 just to supplement my old Mini. I also had complete intentions to order an Air 2S, and a bit later a Mavic 3 to do commercial work. In light of DJI's refusal to fix what should be an obvious need, I feel that firmware 1.04.0000 is at best suspicious, and at worst something I'd rather not contemplate. I have now suspended all plans to order the higher grade DJI drones.

I updated my 2s to 1.04 and had stability/gps issues...dji quickly fixed it with a subsequent update which makes it all better. I was reluctant to update my mini2 to 1.04...but after enuf vids I did it with no problem. The s2 is very nice...I want to see the mini3's game.

Thanks cj, and I'm glad they fixed it for the 2S for you. It's makes sense because the 2S is in such an important strategic niche for DJI (i.e., $ margin), so its rescue was guaranteed. However, the old great performance of the Mini 2 that we remembered might slow the Mini 3 launch a bit too much. So sorry folks; the old Mini 2 we all knew and loved had to be neutered! 🤧

Can the latest 1.04.0000 firmware be bypassed when a NEW mini 2 is first turned on? I mean, can the mini 2 be first time initialized by plugging into a copy of the hacked DJI Assistant 2? If that procedure is doable, it could save a bunch of first time buyers a lot of headache!

I got a disconnection the other day with the mini 2 but I was in an urban environment with lots of rf pollution and I also was 2.5km away. So I Don t see any issues there, from the other hand I indeed see more stuttering in the FPV than before.

I am complaining....Since this update i have initial connection issues. Every time i connect to my iphone 13, i get the " NO controller present" And it will not connect no longer to my IPad. Never had either of these problems until the last update. That bad i haven't bothered using it. On average 2 mins 40 before i get a enough satellites to update Home point. To be honest, i am done with DJI and their screwed up updates, last summer wasn't without problems, but this last one is just to much.

@@GAVINHR I had a new spare one for both the iPhone and a slightly longer one for the iPad. Still the same. Tried reinstalling the App. But no joy at all on the iPad. The iPhone will connect but no longer automatically, now have to manually connect it every time I fly. To be honest, think I’m going to sell it, and wait and see what pops up this year, I really would like to leave the DJI brand, but are there any better in the 249?…..probably not.

My mini 2 is on the newest firmware, It’s not been too bad for me I’ve just noticed pixilation on the screen even when less that 100 meters away in a reasonably low interference area Im not sure if this is to do with the update but I’ve never had the problem before

I am very UPSET that FPV mode has been CRIPPLED!!! I don't know if it was the firmware, but PREVENTING horizontal stabilization is NOT rocket science and should be fixed. I'm not even a real programmer but I could fix the code if I had access to it. Arg!

I did an update when it came out I was having trouble connecting with satellite and trouble with my gimbal while testing the gimbal I fucked up and totally buggered the gimbal crashing, oops I got my replacement on Monday but it’s been raining ever since here in Sydney. This morning I took it out for its first flight and to my surprise when I got outside it connected to satellites within about 30 seconds I don’t know whether this is the new drone or what changing I did a range test as well I don’t like pushing it past a couple kilometres and it did that fine my old one would’ve had problems especially after the update so I don’t know I’m scratching my head. Love your videos I watch them all.

for my mini 2 i have notice only a slow satelite lock, but havnt notice any changes in range are signal quality, all works fine like used to! and i from europe

I’ve definitely noticed that the mini 2 is taking longer to get satalites locked. Have they downgraded it to make the imminent Mini 3 look better, or even the Mavic 3

Did you use same OS phone for both drones or was the Mini2 iOS and the Mini Android?

I've had problems to, lots red loss signal flashes for few seconds and saying gimble stuck , and gamble dosnt work. I watch some others in America, had same problems gamble eras and signal warnings. It was meant to be a safety firmware, think it's they want to stop people flying firmware. I have to keep turning on an off to get rid gamble warnings stuck or not working. Strange everyone all around world complaint. Keep up the good content . Tim.

Thanks Tim for your feedback and comment, it does seem to be reported too much recently for it not to be an issue. It this was across the range then fair enough but when the inferior Mavic mini is performing the same and getting in the air quicker that paints a fair picture

Not trying to invalidate your point in any way, shape or form but it's so weird my Mini 2 has got the same firmware version but the only problem I can relate to is the long wait for satellite lock, which indeed wasn't as long before the update. As for the signal loss, on Monday I've actually flown 2.5km away in an area with lots of interference, not a single stutter whatsoever on the video transmission

No absolutely not, all experiences may vary depending on the day and location etc so it's not everybody that will see these sort of results therefore perfectly reasonable that you may not see or have any issues ☺️

Hey Gavin .. thanks for your video great info. I too had the same problem with my mini 2 out in the countryside. And this is a very dependable drone.Hand 🤚 up first I never reboot the devices. Big mistake.. and just say it was at 20 meters and Return to home would not work. Please check it out because I wouldn’t want anyone to loose there drone . Thanks for the info great video .

I just bought the mini 2. Have yet to open the box. Thanks to this video I’ll avoid the firmware update to v01.04.000. I also have a Mavic Mini and will be able to compare range and signal strength/connection. PS. I typically get 700m-900m with my Mavic Mini at 70m height in a moderate wifi interference area while using parabolic/YagiUda signal booster.

The mini 2 overall used to perform brilliant, maybe stick with the older firmware and hopefully the signal should be ok for you, as far as my testing goes if you read the comments enough people have noticed a difference for this to add credibility to my test I think

@@lockheed08 Yes. I activated it today. There were 3 updates available (aircraft firmware, rc control and flysafe database). I didn't update anything and it works. PS. I plan to fly it Monday and also compare to mavic mini. PPS. Looks like the mini 3 is coming soon. Maybe wait for a sale on mini 2. If you don't want to wait I suggest buying at BestBuy or Costco which have price guarantees.

DJI wants the DJI Mini 2, Mini SE & Mavic Mini too DIE! they are making the MINI 3 their Flag ship Mini drone.Their care refresh program is over come with replacements and costing them $$hit loads of money. Obstacle Avoidance will solve this problem.

Based on your previous videos I have shut off auto firmware update and will not download v104.0 until DJI sends out a fix and you test it and are comfortable with it. Thanks for the heads up. No flying weather here near Toronto Canada maybe for another month or so.

It's really terrible when the wifi beats out DJI's beloved ocusync! They have just got worse and worse. Both the mini2 and mavic 2 use to do every bit of 6 miles. I don't think those day's are coming back. They don't hurry to fix any problems either. What a waste of such great technology.

My problem with the latest firmware is not signal strength, or GPS. My problem is that hover is VERY unstable. Not touching the sticks it will drift up and down several feet, and it almost drifted to the side and into a tree!! DJI really needs to fix this.

I recently updated to the latest firmware and did a test flight over a local golf course as always do after an update. I didn't notice any obvious lengthy signal lock problems and as for distance the mini 2 flew without signal loss a lot further then the distance you achieved during your test. Are there other factors to consider, I flew over open country side where as you were over a built up area? I also had 24 locked satellites where as you had 13. Happy to send you screen shot of flight log distance but only privately.

Hi Peter, yes there is a huge difference, in rural our countryside areas these drones will all perform perfectly fine as there is no real interference to deal with - it is only in built up areas that any issues with signal will be highlighted

On mini SE have a same problem, gps lock take a long time at 100m on both 2,5 ghz & 5 ghz disconnected. Very annoying if they throttle down just to make the expensive DJI done look superior.

I updated the firmware about a week after the release and actually haven't seen any difference. In fact, I kinda prefer my Mini 2 over my brand new Air 2 at the moment.

Hi Gavin... aqui no Brasil também estamos tendo muitos problemas com o DJI Mini 2... o meu só funciona em 2.4GHz, se eu coloco em 5.8GHz ele perde o sinal bem perto de mim, cerca de 30 cms de distância😬, eu vejo em muitos países esse problema e a DJI não se importa com seus clientes, não fazem nada pra consertar isso. if an update (firmware) cause too much bug or not comfortable to you, then "rollback" option is always there. And yes that what it is, the company makes such update, then some units causes trouble/fly-away or disconnection til you crash your unit. Once a new product comes.. :(

Dear Gavin by watching your test videos I saved my mini 2, but Ιt would be completely immoral if dji did such thing in order to put an end to the mini 2 with this firmware update. it would be obvious that does not respect its customers. If this is verified in the near future, although I have the mini 2 and thank God I did not upgrade the firmware, I will never buy a dji product again, but I think they will provide a solution soon. It is impossible not to do that.

My mini original lasted longer than my mini 2. Mini 1 rebooted control stopped working after 2 months. Mini 2 remote after 2 weeks.
