I have an OG Evercade, a VS and an EXP plus all carts. It's a great affordable way to collect physical media and I love the mix of retro and indies on Evercade.

the carts are just usb drives/flash cards. Once they burn out so long games. Not real carts like the 80's. Just like tossing roms on a SD card and loading it on your PC that way.

@@DannyP-dm1pw Yes but an Sd card can last very long if you don't write stuff on it. I had SD cards that i used to delete and download new stuff on that died after some time but my 2-3 Sd cards that i put stuff on and never deleted them to rewrite new stuff still work great even after a decade. SD cards are basically more sensitive SSDs that have write cycles and die after so many writes etc. If you don't use those writes cycles then they can last just fine. Not writing and rewriting on them is the secret of not getting burn out. The issue with this cartridges seems to be that Evercate uses those write cycles to constantly update their cartridges which i do not get. Why do they need updating when the games are already on them?

@@SIPEROTH Thanks for the clarity. I ended up picking up one of those new pocket ones for 60 bucks and a few carts. It's not bad but I haven't played it as much as I thought. I'm getting older and realized Tetris and Gameboy still work just fine for gaming on the go.

Gribbly's day out is instant nostalgia. Had that on my C64 back in the day. Played the hell out of it!

This is a well made video for a small channel. Wish you all the success friend. Getting ready to launch my own retro gaming channel as a second channel.

One thing it lacks, is a proper sleep mode, so whenever you turn it off, you need to boot it all over. Games also tend to crash, when plugging or unplugging the HDMI. It remains very retro in that regard.

I've really been getting into the Evercade as of late, and been seeing some videos about it. One thing that was concerning me is people saying their cartridges are corrupting, especially the old ones. Then there's another video about a guy that made his own Evercade cartridge by reflashing an existing cartridge with new games (he made a Phantasy Star collection, which I would LOVE if Blaze could make that!!), which he mentions the main chip inside uses the same type of wiring connections as SD cards. This and the fact that the Evercade itself can update the cartridges with new firmware and stuff... I think it may be an issue with the whole hotswapping feature, like what can happen if you remove an SD card or a flash memory device from a computer when the computer is still accessing it. As such, I think eventhough it may be a little cumbersome, it might be best to turn off the device before removing a cartridge, to assure there is no access going on. Maybe Blaze could add an "Eject Cartridge" option or even a button in order to assure that the cartridge is no longer being accessed before removing.

I also found it weird that they don't have that protective plastic cover on the screen to keep it factory fresh. My screen was a little dirty out of the box which was a little annoying. They did the same thing with the Hyper Mega Techs.

I'm getting frustrated with the evercade. Games failing to load from cartridge after updates, we still can't silence the Exp which is frankly ridiculous. Plus the number of games is getting smaller on every cart. Falling out of love with the system recently

As the evercade has been relatively successful I wonder whether there are less games per cart because those whoever owns the games now want a bigger cut of the profits. So to keep costs down they have to have less games. I find it annoying that they are releasing consoles now with built in games, it defeats the original raison d’etre of the evercade in my opinion.

It's crazy but my RG 35XXSP clamshell plays literally thousands of games across multiple platforms with a better screen and controls than the Evercade and the RG SP is bloody $60. The EXP screen is absolutely criminal not to mention the horrid controls so let's not. I'm honestly bloody viscerally confused. For me, and this is a very personal choice, going back in time is not always a good idea. To quote Jurassic Park "Just because you can doesn't mean you should.".

Is it true that, unless you put on headphones, you cannot completely mute the audio from the console? Or has this problem been resolved?

I've just checked for ya. It does go completely mute when the volume is all the way down 👌

Also these "cartridges" are just sd card cartridges and not true 80s / 90s cartridges ROMs, hence why these cartridges can get corrupt over time or during updates 😨😭 feel like I've been scammed.

Same. I feel burned. I bought this thing thinking it was like a return to the cartridges of yesterday.
