Update: This video was obviously born from frustration. The numbers and percentages were gathered after various conversations with Hyrox Head judges, volunteers, affiliated gym owners and officials. If Hyrox think them inaccurate I would love the chance to correct them if provided with the official numbers direct. Transparency is important in situations like this. If the numbers are provided I will re-record this entire video and reflect on those updated figures very closely :) - Email is in bio ;)
I remain a positive contributing member of the Hyrox community... albeit a little frustrated :)
A dive into how Hyrox went from readily available tickets 3 years ago to now when tickets seem almost impossible to get hold of. It seems you cant get as much as a sniff if you are not affiliated with a gym. The frustrations of the out of date un fit for purpose advanced ticket buying is killing any chance of competing. So yes I made a video about it!

If HYROX aren't going to add MANCHESTER, BIRMINGHAM and GLASGOW as events twice a year, then they need to add 2/3 more events throughout the UK. CARDIFF, LIVERPOOL, LEEDS, NEWCASTLE, BRISTOL should all be options.

Totally agree! They need to severely cap the number of tickets for affiliated gyms (by percentage of members maybe?) or just offer a discounted rate instead. Plus more UK events would help spread out the demand. E.g. Aberdeen P&J live would be an excellent venue

Happening with Europe events also. Last year, in my experience anyway, you could book with literally weeks to go but this year, 6 months out, sold out and waiting lists. And the wait list for Paris has some kind of bug 😏

The solution is PFT's. Those people who have seen it in a magazine and want to do it because it's the "Next big thing" - they can do a PFT to scratch that itch, and then they'll either fall in love with it - be satisfied, or - they're realise how tough it is!

Hi Martin, totally agree I tried and failed to get into Birmingham and Manchester fortunately my friend refereed at Manchester and got a free slot which he agreed to do doubles with me so I got in… but when you consider the time, effort, travel etc to referee it’s very expensive and when you work is difficult to justify. I actually sent an email to Spartan asking when they would bring Deka fit to the UK as this is a similar event and would be competition to Hyrox and I think would be good to swap and change between the two competitions.. no reply as yet!,

I remember years ago when Spartan had one of their people at, i believe, the (first?) NYC event. Shortly after, Deka was born. The same way Spartan took over obstacle racing, they're doing with fitness racing by creating numerous opportunities across numerous locations and tickets are accessible. The knockoff is going to dominate US fitness racing. Hyrox entry is still nowhere near as bad here in the US, but NYC sold out well in advance. There's a high demand for the event that's only held a few times in the US, and most primarily on the other side of the country. I don't see how the demand doesn't make it possible to host more 2-day events. I'm seeing the rise in Hyrox affiliate gyms, but none within an hour drive from me. With all those gyms pushing their members to sign up for the only race in this area, it won't be long before we reach that point. Affiliate codes need to be capped.

Simple economics would suggest they will hike the price till they hit the tipping point where demand falls and manage it this way (and make more profit on their bottom line). Would make sense for them to add extra days and maintain pricing but I think they’ll probably do a bit of both.

There’s an incredible amount of entitlement within the hyrox community. The events are incredibly popular now and there is a limit to how many people can compete. People want to get a ticket and have other people miss out to just get to the venue and then complain it’s too busy. It is a very popular sport but it is relatively young as well. People in the UK are very lucky with the amount of events which are put on that they don’t have to travel too far for. Just go abroad if you really want to do it, it doesn’t cost a fortune.

I know what youre saying, everyone gets a bit selfcentric about this stuff, like toddlers with toys. lol Dividing the market into those who can get tickets (through affiliates) and those who have to scrap over it in queues or ballots is where the main beef is. What's interesting since releasing this video learning how many affiliate gyms also cannot get tickets....even through the early release. Either an invisible cap or through wide spread abuse of codes. Either way how can Hyrox sell this as a perk to gyms if it cannot be fully fulfilled. Lots of problems to solve

Hi Martin- I couldn't agree more- and bizarrely, it only seems to be a problem in the UK. I have taken part in six Hyrox events in the last year and the European tickets were always much easier to get hold of. The problem they are going to find is that you cannot patent a set of already existing exercises. Anyone can set up in competition with only the smallest differences and if they are able to run as slick an event at a similar price point but with easier access to tickets they will win out long term.

@@martin-boyce I don't know- tickets are easy to get in Poland and Denmark but both of those countries only put on their first events in the last year. I also did Munich which I had no problem getting a ticket for. I have entered Valencia for November this year- no difficulty getting a ticket although Hyrox have now put on a second day for this event I think. I've entered the London ballot- initially it had the same problem of a massive queue and just as you got near the front it would refresh but they seem to have sorted that out now.

There plenty of venues across all of the UK waiting for Hyrox to use them. Aberdeen has the P&J Centre which is more than capable of holding a northern Scotland event and I’m sure England has several large venues also. Not sure why Hyrox are taking so long to grab the market as there are other options that are following them and they will be growing quicker if Hyrox don’t do something.

I don't think the issue is really the abuse of affiliate links, although this is annoying. There are simply far more people that want to take part than there are places, the solution is more events, which means more sales and profit, win win! The business of Hyrox won’t mind who you are as long as they sell out, no matter how the ticket is sold, they’re the winners. After all, it’s a business and will most likely be sold to a global brand in due course who’ll take it to the next level.

I started training for Hyrox in late 2021 with my first event at Manchester 2022. After not being able to get tickets for MAN 2024 due to them selling out within a week. I attempted to get tickets for BIRM 2024 and failed due to the affiliate link being exposed, now I more than likely won't be able to get a ticket for London EXCEL later this year. I find it incredibly frustrating and whilst HYROX are selling out. Fans who have been there since the first ever UK Events are being neglected. Hyrox UK is ran by a team of Young Adults and whilst the growth is fantastic to see, it could crash and burn if they continue to treat the Die Hard HYROX fans with no respect. A loyalty system should be in place for the upcoming UK events.

I agree with what you are saying. You like to think the bubble will burst but I can’t see that happening. At least with the ballot it’s giving some fairness to it. Hyrox UK acting like a business rather than a developing sport. Creating demand for tickets fuels demand for gyms to sign up to affiliates which makes them easy money. Its time to have some criteria of who gets to be in line to sign up first for the pro divisions based on your past finishing times and if the person does meet the minimum required time, they get in front of the queue - for this division this seems like a reasonable and logical solution as in any sport you cant just walk in from a lower division league to a higher one by your own choice, you get selected by a manager of the team or qualify in an individual sport by the required score or time
