Nostalgia the devil. I remember loving the original Fable as a kid. Years later I saw it had a PC port and immediately snagged it. I quickly realized nostalgia is a hell of a thing.

My girlfriend asked me the other day. You bought tears of the kingdom why are you playing ocarina ? And I told her its fluff for the sake of fluff. Ocarina is love crafted. Felt large because of its content not its space. Games just feel empty now. Ocarina twilight. Mario 64 or even sunshine felt magical. I guess we just grew up and video games have become huge so it's not as niche and passionate as it was. (Not to shit on new zelda and its lovers. I just find it big and boring. Dungeons are weak. Games 80 percent shrines and seeds. That's my reasons if you love it go off)

I know a lot of vet Zelda fans don’t like the new formula for BOTW and TOTK but I love it yes the shrines are baby dungeons and puzzles but Zelda games are about exploration too and TOTK and BOTW don’t fail when it comes to enjoying the world I haven’t stop playing it’s just so fun but OOT is timeless and known as the best game ever made (one of) but honestly looks like these new Zelda games beat it

I definitely get that! The games are a little less focused, and, even though I loved BOTW, I can agree that it was empty in a lot of ways! Personally, I feel like Tears of The Kingdom has mostly fixed that, but it all comes down to preference in the end, so keep on grinding Ocarina!

Good Video but to me whole Halo series never capture me at all to me it's just FPS with Si-Fi and big map it's fun but not break any limit of gaming world like Mario 64 or FF7 did for gaming industry. I think Bioshock is to me more of Masterpiece for FPS in general if that make sense.

I Completely understand that! My early gaming years were almost exclusively Nintendo, so a game like Halo 3 was completely new to me! The true reason that it stuck with me is: it was the first game that I regularly played online with friends. I remember playing custom games almost every night for a summer, and that made it very memorable for me.

I think that’s a pretty accurate answer! I kinda brush over the nuance but I agree. In some ways yes, in others, no.

Nostalgia is hell of a drug lol. The games that released when I was a kid (mid 2000s and early 2010s) were definitely not as good as people remember. We had gems like Halo 3, Call of Duty MW2, Skyrim, etc but also during the time the endless cash grab movie tie-in games, forced MP, and the rarity of patches were a problem too. At least if a game launches poorly today it could be remedied over time such as No Man Sky and IMO Fallout 76 to name some extreme examples, games being completely revamped and corrected just wasn't a thing back then. Besides if 12 year old me in 2010 saw Tears of the Kingdom I would have shit my pants haha

I think age and burnout is a factor too. I notice many people that say gaming is dead also put in 100s of hours a month and they're obviously burnt out. I only get to play a few hours a week due to school and work stuff, gaming feels as fun for me as it did as a kid because I only get limited time to play per week

I couldn’t agree more! I still remember going to blockbuster and picking out some cash grab GI Joe game to rent, and loving it. I know that game was bad, but it sure didn’t seem like it! And it is cool to see games redeem themselves. No Man’s Sky is a comeback story for the ages. I think burnout 100% contributes too!

well i have a question for you then do you think games like hades/hollow knight are objectively worse then the older games, like the thing is I agree with your points. but when you took examples of good old games they are few select games that many people like most old games were pretty bad, also another thing to consider is well, quantity there are too many games being developed these days and well just like the old games a few are noteworthy but the remaining thousands are not even close to their quality.
@justindaughtry Жыл бұрын
I definitely could have included some “bad” or “mediocre” examples for older games, but I felt like showing the timeless classics and still claiming that modern games are better only drove home the point more! I do think games like Hollow Knight or Hades are “objectively” better than their comparable predecessors (Super Metroid, etc…)!

@@justindaughtry Its one of those games I bought cause it was cheap, played it once, didn't vibe with it so I put it down and then later when I tried it again I "got it" and now see how deep the mechanics really are.

It’s mostly nostalgia and our kid baby minds don’t have the imagination our adult minds do however there are timeless games that beat nostalgia like many Zelda games and Mario games but games have gotten better our stressful have made it seem games don’t make us feel like it did when we were kids
