In a combat zone we use all the available resources we have as a person and group. When we make a national budget, we have to use our available resources to do all the things we may have to do. Infrastructure, programs, military, disaster relief, allow the economy to function etc. We can't spend all the money on just weapons or defense. The guy was right in that case and Luttrell didn't have a response.

Fact: Marcus Luttrell was found with ALL of his 11 mags that he took on the mission during operation Red Wings. Gulab (the man who saved him) was abandoned by Luttrell and would survive multiple assassination attempts from the Taliban in the coming years. Gulab himself has NEVER rescinded these claims and has ALWAYS stuck to the same story. The same cannot be said for Marcus. Marcus even failed to print the correct name of the operation on his book calling it “redwing” instead of “Red Wings” like the hockey team. Important details in his book are completely rejected by many other NAVY SEALS and Gulab says that the later American soldiers sent to comb the mountains didn’t find ANY dead taliban soldiers ONLY that of the Americans. This was confirmed by United States Marine Colonel Andrew MacMannis who reported that “there were no signs of any enemy casualties.” The 2nd marine battalion and 3rd Marine regiment planned the mission but were stopped near completion and forced to hand the mission over to Navy Seals. Interesting to see this comment. I didn’t like that he brought up his military service as if it’s a magic wand that would make him win the argument. It’s cocky and doesn’t exude humility like you see with some of the other men and women who served. This guy is disrespectful and will not go much farther.

You're simplifying it, he said "resources", that means analysts, technology, agents in the field, Sigint, drones, human sources, handlers, service dogs etc and his point was that they are finite. History shows that if you focus too much on one method of terror the other side just evolves and develops their methodology or creates new ways altogether. Luttrell was grandstanding and flexing his military service (which we know was legendary) and diminishing the other guys value when clearly he was just thinking on a grander scale i.e. knowing attacks on infrastructure, cyber networks, financial systems can be just as damaging to the country and need to be considered alongside traditional means of terror attacks.

@@benchmarkthis I'm glad you posted this as it is far more balanced than the 'MAGA' brigade of comments which dominate the responses to this video. Like everything else in life, whether it is managing your own home resources to live day to day, to the significant risks around the world it is impossible to do 'everything'. If that were the case we would all be millionaires, have big houses, and unlimited resources to do whatever we wanted to in life. As far as I can see as an independent observer (UK) Mr Luttrell simply bullied the chap and closed him down before he could provide relevant cogent arguments to have an informed debate.

@@seanlittle1261 Yeah mate I think we probably see it in a much more balanced light as I’m an Aussie and our countries don’t have the massive military might of the US behind us, but more than that we know responses have to be smarter and I think that’s what the guy was trying to say, he just got shouted down by a bit of the ‘USA, USA, USA!!’ mentality. To me that seemed more about political performing and appealing to voters than keeping people accountable and pursuing good policy.

Look, I am jaded and do not expect any satisfactory results from any Congressional inquiries on any topics, but despite my misgivings, Rep. Luttrell did an excellent job of questioning here.
