@@aglight63 In the original Mad Max movie the "Last of the V8's" that they tempted Max with had a "blower/ supercharger" that could be turned on and off by a switch on the shifter. Which was all nonsense. You don't turn a blowet on and off. They're driven by the crankshaft so when the engine is turning the blower turns as well. As far as the switch, it's a common electrical two-speed rear end switch used for medium duty and some heavy duty trucks, mostly Eaton 2 speed rear axles. The whiny noise could have been taken from a blower on a real car, or a race engine with a gear drive for the camshaft, or any naturally whiny thing or a combination of several things. I don't know. Just me- the light speed escape vehicle looked to me like one of the VW powered rail dunebuggies like a bunch of us had 40-50 years ago. NONE of them sounded like that. Even hopped up they still did the BRRRRR-RAHHHHH- BURRABURRRRRR- RAHH I don't definitively know. Lots of special effects with sounds dubbed in used in movies

This was stupidly written, but I once worked with real Texas Rangers in West Texas in the late 60’s when I was an Assistant District Attorney and my experiences with them bare out that many of the legendary attributes we hear about have a basis in truth. At that time they were all required to be big, tough as hell, and the ones I knew were laconic of nature like the character in this scene. I can’t tell you how many times they showed up in my office with their car full of bullet holes. Those guys were the real thing not needing ridiculous movie scripts to embellish them. Doubt any of them (or anybody else) could pick off perps freehand at a half mile though. Btw, that was one hell of a telescopic sight on that rifle with the steadiest hand in history.

best Texas Ranger ever was Joaquin Jackson. It appears this movie is trying to imitate him. The hat, glasses, walk, and attempted talk is Ranger Jackson. He also carried a .45 and a lever rifle at one time. And always worked alone. Strange they mention Terlingua. Ranger Jackson worked that area of the border and looking for and arrested drug dealers single handed. I am proud to have known him.

How a percussion cap rifle can be breech loaded with a primered cartridge and still manage to shoot with accuracy from a non rifled barrel is a feat only Hollywood could pull off.

Sharps cartridge RIFLE . No caps. Regular rounds commonly 45-70.
@worry2much
@worry2much 28 күн бұрын
Not all Sharps rifles were percussion rifles there were cartridge rifles made as well. I have an 1874 Shiloh Sharps with a Malcolm style telescopic like the one in the movie clip and though I've never shot it past 100 yds the rifle is capable of amazing accuracy at distances far beyond 100 yds. You can find videos to that fact,granted the shots in the clip is movie magic they can be done.

"Sharps rifles are a series of large-bore, single-shot, falling-block, breech-loading rifles, beginning with a design by Christian Sharps in 1848 and ceasing production in 1881. They were renowned for long-range accuracy. By 1874, the rifle was available in a variety of calibers, and it was one of the few designs to be successfully adapted to metallic cartridge use."
@C.SharpsArms
@C.SharpsArms 26 күн бұрын
All the comments below are correct. Featured in this clip was a model 1874 Sharps, a metallic cartridge rifle. However, even the early breach loading percussion Sharps rifles were rifled and known for their accuracy such as with the Berdan Sharpshooters during the civil war. Yet, there is still more than enough fiction to go around in this clip!
