That mirror... whooeee. Somebody will want that. (empatically not my taste, but I know a bunch of Vietnamese, Chinese and Jamaican immigrants who would cheerfully give it house room). I wouldn't mess with it either; Charlie's right. That which you don't mess WITH you cannot mess UP. In China and the far East, they might well want to restore it to the way it looked new; they think Westerners are nuts for wanting it to look old.

You're right. best to leave it to the next owner - they can restore it to their own level…or not. Personally I’d carry some very basic restoration and enjoy its age!

That’s a stunning piece… it’s one of those that could absolutely fly, I know you can’t say too much but was it acquired privately from overseas or had it seen the trade before purchase?

I think you’re right. it came from a small auction house overseas - private house sale…it stands a chance doesn’t it!!

@@ByrRaven maybe if the mirror's original and not a later replacement... imagine how many pieces must have been accidentally knocked off it over the years...i think that it's a dinosaur of an antique and it must weigh a ton... possibly plastic?...a belle laide for sure... but as they say... chacun à son goût.

This mirror is Japanese export ware, Meiji period. Was popular in France. Notice how the dragon has 3 claws...typical of Japanese dragons. He paid a lot for it.

I know what you mean about the Meiji, but this is confirmed as Chinese
