I use to work at goodwill. There’s a system too it, but yes. Most employees have access to donations before the public. Some people just steal stuff bc you get paid like 9.50 and all of your paycheck would go to stuff you want if you bought stuff you wanted everyday. Most of that “good stuff” goes straight onto the goodwill online store. Most don’t have the “showcase” anymore so it’s being sold online for auction. They actually have to go thru training to know what stuff can’t go on the floor bc they can sell it online. They also refilled for an LLC a few years back and are no longer a non profit. Don’t donate to them. Either sell it yourself on marketplace or other apps, or give it too a Salvation Army or another local thrift store. Goodwill is insanely corrupt. The only money that pays the employees is what you round up after you pay. I could go on.
@yourbudbuddy.
@yourbudbuddy. Жыл бұрын
I've volunteered there and yeah I straight up saw a dude pocket a pair of Oakleys from a pallet that had just come in. Since they are a charity they don't have CIA style security cameras so it's really one of those "are you someone who does the right thing or not" situations. Also there's a TON of people getting their community service hours in and people who arent techincally even with goodwill. When there was Jewelery or a high priced item (let's say anything that could resell for over 50$ that's not the size of a couch that actually made it to the sorting line) the manager would say "we have to send that to corporate" so they can re sell it online to help pay their hired workers and pay for the land, bills, electricity, etc (still costs money up front even though it's a charity). Now if that manager actually sent it to corporate I never saw but hoped he did. I personally didn't want to risk taking a 50$ item only to get arrested and be fined hundreds if not thousands. As volunteers/employees we could make offers on stuff but if the manager thought it could sell for more on the floor he'd say no. I also saw the customers steal way more than the employees did. I also saw people literally drop off dirty diapers and garbage just so they can get that tax donation write off form. It really does help people and it's overall purpose is good. But people are still people sadly....

Goodwill is out of their minds. Why would they do that?!!! Not much charity now a days, either. The corporate office sends each store their expected sales goal to reach each month. (I know, I worked there)and prices are increasing to the point that people who really need to buy donated clothes and goods are struggling to pay for their purchases. Sad. Goodwill has lost perspective of their original goal to help people through charity.

I used to work at goodwill, in the back for production, donations sorted and go to textiles/toys/wares/books/shoes.. and we are trained to put out the BEST of items, meaning no stains, rips, piling on textiles, no broken areas.. it’s because of that, that goodwills prices are more expensive then a value village, and other small thrift/consignments shops… but I still get pissed thinking about their prices when they literally get everything for FREE.. so they would make profit no matter what.. so they don’t need to charge and arm and a leg especially if person is homeless, or living in poverty… I grew up being taught that thrift stores help less fortunate and homeless people.. and now those people can’t even afford 1 entire outfit… however GOODWILL will donate an outfit and shoes if person comes in and needs clothes for job interviews… and every week there is a certain color tag that’s on sale.. well when that week rolls by and the following Monday EVERYTHING in the store is $.99… including furniture… hope this helps someone
