I have a big Ridgeback male and he's the best dog. Loves to play rough with our Rottweiler and loves to be gentle with my daughter who he's been around since she was 5.

Love to hear that! Kids and dogs rarely mix but this breed is a great family dog

You have accurately described them to a tee.I have a male and female lettermates. 2 years old, absolutely agree with your training methods. They are very sensitive, but consistency, treat reward driven..Are great motivators for them. Getting them socialized with other dogs very early on is extremely important. They play with other dogs twice a week. But I had to train them separately. We crated them separately, and I would travel with one and keep 1 at home with my wife. That way, they built their independency. And broke some of that litter mate syndrome. I had several when I lived in africa, and I would own no other breed than this one. Not forna first time owner i recommend.

Right on! They are awesome dogs and independent training is extremely helpful. Great job with your dogs and keep up the good work! Crate training is a must in my programs and helps so much. Thanks for viewing and it motivates me to keep going hearing success stories 👍👍

Crate training absolute must....also people mistaken there playing as fighting, but that is how they play 0-100 and violent. I look forward to viewing more of your videos to see how the training goes with the two that you are working with

RR’s can be a little stubborn but I absolutely love them. I have 2 females. 💞

I absolutely love them and they eventually listen 😅

OMG, I had to laugh, my female 1 1/2 yr. old RR gives me that look every time I ask her to sit (yes, I can tell from her back the look on her face).🤣 Rhodesians the best breed ever. Their bond is so strong because they were bred to work as a team, the whole pack kept that lion at bay for the hunter.

That’s so true 😂 These dogs have so much character and personality. I love bonding with them! 😊

The bond these share with each other is something that will also happen with their person. Ridgebacks want to be with their people at all times. I'd wouldn't recommend anyone get one if they don't either work from home, or have the ability to take their pup along with them.

I have a female, 14 months old, when she is home alone, she won't eat or drink, till someone comes home... And even then, she won't eat all of her food. I had a giant schnauzer, nothing could stop him from his food, even a female in the heat 😁 but Buba is sooo different... I'm still not used to her's behavior about food...

Clarification on “Prey Drive” as it applies to Rhodesian Ridgebacks. NOTHING escapes their notice. They are intensely curious about everything. In this case, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they will see a small animal, run it down and destroy it. In fact, quite the opposite. Once something has been throughly investigated, ridgebacks tend to place it in one of three categories. Threat, Ignore, or Protect. It’s worth noting that, in my experience with these dogs, most any living thing that is completely harmless or helpless almost always falls into the Protect category, and they will do so. Doesn’t matter if it’s a young child, small pup or a baby bird. They will watch over it.

Highly observant and interesting! I typically clear my yard of any wildlife before letting the dogs out. Mostly because we have bears and venomous snakes in Florida. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Are there chances for them to mate though they're together since birth
@evergladesk96 ай бұрын
Great question. Both dogs are intact and could mate if left unsupervised. It’s important to use separate kennels and heavily monitor them when the bitch goes into heat.

What is your background for separation training? I live with 2 RR's and they can't stand to be away from each other. Where are the humans that claim ownership? Let's have a stranger train them! Let me guess, your not free! Don't get an animal if you are not willing to make it part of your family and train it yourself.

A major part of working with canines is following up with the owners and educating them. I always inform my clients that I can work with their dogs for months but if they don’t put in the training time themselves regression will and can happen very quickly.
