It is not as much the language barrier that is a problem but family lifestyle and upbringing. I also grew up in North. With the exception of essential vaccinations, we rarely took allopathic medicines. Instead our Mother instilled in us early in a healthy plant-based preventive lifestyle. Therefore, we rarely became ill. But whenever we had minor seasonal complaints, came to rescue homemade Ayurvedic concoctions. Sometimes, there were Homeopathic medicines, too. My brother, an Allopathic doctor, as a preference, first used Ayurvedic and Homeopathic medicines to treat his family. Of course, in rare cases, when warranted, he did not hesitate to prescribe Antibiotics or Penicillin. Most people who underestimate the power of plant-based, natural agents, suffer more because of the adverse side effects, drug interactions, and secondary organ damage caused by toxic Western medicines. Even plant-based medications must come from a credible and informed source. As the saying goes: Prevention is Better Than Cure!

My grandmother, aunts, my mother, myself and various cousins ... all of us washed our hair with a lukewarm concoction of boiled Shikakai, Ritha (Soap Nut), and Amla. All of us had beautiful, lustrous and long hair. My one aunt, well into her 80s had knee-length hair. We avoided Hina because although it conditions hair, it alters the natural hair color, instead Hibiscus flowers and Beetroot were occasionally used when boiling the first three.
