I'm from St Lucia and I never knew this. Asked my mom and she was like yes, this is what they used to wash their hair back then. 5 minutes later, we took a walk through the neighborhood to pick some Hibiscus leaves and flowers. It's midday and the sun is blazing hot but my hair will thank me later😭😭😭

Hi Mimi, nice to see a fellow St. Lucian here. I do remember my mom using this to wash my hair when I was a little girl but we quickly transitioned to the store bought shampoo. It's Funny that I'm seeing this video because just this morning I asked my mom where can I find hibiscus, because I would like to try it in my hair again. After being out of the country for a very long time I'm back home and slowly transitioning back to everything natural. If you don't mind, please let me know how your wash with the hibiscus came out. Thanks and be Blessed

I am from Kerala. We call it taali, ( taali can be any combination of good things that form a slimy liquid which is used as natural shampoo like shikakai, reetha etc, but Kerala we use hibiscus leaves and flowers.). We just mash, break, grind handful of leaves and flowers by hand to get to a slimy fluid and wash hair. It leaves your hair silky and scalp clean. My mom rarely allowed to use chemical based shampoo and this was part of weekend ritual when I was young. 😇😊

That something is very well known in Guadeloupe. I do it also and been sharing this practice to diy friends. People can't talk about it in the US because they do not have the same ancestral practice of what nature offers for some reason. They starting to discover now theanks to Dr Sebi and social media... In Guadeloupe (and in my family) we use it. Good for the skin also, you can bath toddlers in hibiscus leaf bath. No need for a blender if you don't have one it works just the same if you smash the leaf but obviously you'll need more leaf. Since i can't have acess to hibiscus leaf all year, i as only visit my family in Guadeloupe. I dry the leaf and use them in powder form in my dyi regimen. You can also do it with cactus but it will require a bit more work. 🌵 If you speak to elderly people you'll know more about people use to wach their hair in the old time. Ashes from the bbq is a intense cleanser for instance... People where going to the river to wash their hair and still do in some part of the island. Love my land, love my culture.

Update: (Sorry I couldnt reply to everyone)So I made some hibiscus water (plant didn't have enough leaves for me to pilfer) and I made a treatment which my sister used and loved, her relaxed/keratined hair lays MUCH flatter than it normally is. I however took a slightly different approach. Getting an old salsa jar, I mixed a lot of the hibiscus treatment with a regular conditioner and placed it in my hair as a mask and my curls are much more defined and soft today. I watered down the treatment and lightly sprayed it on my hair before i put my usual products. Tonight i will repeat the treatment and give my hair a trim. Much love ladies and gents and to soleil
