I've been thinking this through. My theory is that Syd went from an internal 'locus of control' to an external 'locus of control' [read the following en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locus_of_control ]. During 1963-1967 he seemed to have an internal 'locus of control'. So, if you have an external 'locus of control', you have a tendency to 'not care in doing anything' because your destiny depends on other factors. A lot of people have an external locus, the wikipedia article explains it well. It probably was triggered by the fact that he couldn't control the Industry nor his buddies/bandmates. This explains why he didn't care to try other things (other bands, or painting) to get by. He even 'stayed in bed'. By the december 11th 1967, it had been 6 years since his father had passed away (another event that had happened outside his locus of control). That event may have added to the effect. This theory also explains why he could not develop himself further after 1967 and stayed in the not-grown-up behaviour that Peter Jenner mentions (or not taking seriously anything). He didn't bother to say anything about his behaviour.

He only wrote one song and played on possibly two of them. He was not a member of the Band when the Album was released as well. Cruel but fair. The Band certainly paid homage and respect to his contribution to the Band as well as their love for him. They might even have dwelled on it a bit too much. It did however provide some of their best Lyrics. I never believed that it was a commercial decision as their respect and admiration of an old friend is obvious.

Syd Barett was a talented, gifted young man. Unfortunately, he had the wrong friends and hung out with junkies. Nick.M said: We ignored the problem. A sad story for the whole family. When he released his two solo albums, Syd Barett was on the verge of schizophrenia!!! Psychiatry wasn't ready back then... I'm interested in how Syd lived with his illness???? Unfortunately, there are no more books in German...

As Storm puts it, it is quite ‘good’ if your hero is flawed by someone else rather than by himself.

The healthy Syd Barrett was very creative. He wrote 52 songs. Unfortunately he had the wrong friends. He took LSD several times a week. Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd went well together. The first album The Piper... is a good record. He continued to take drugs on his two solo albums. Unfortunately he didn't learn anything from being thrown out!!!! At 22, Syd was a sick person. His drug use left him with catatonia. Nobody knows exactly how Syd lived from 1975 to 2006??? The last documentary didn't show anything new. ... Boring. I don't know if he ever found redemption or peace for his soul. Syd lived in an inner prison... A sad story.

@@acousvnt In 2012 (or thereabout) Storm Thorgerson started to make a documentary with the working title Wouldn't You Miss Me, interviewing Floyd band members, friends of Syd and even some fans... Unfortunately he died in 2013 and the project dragged on for a decade before it was finally released as HYGIY. The above trailer dates indeed from 2013 and was saved by Spanish fan Antonio jesus. I reconstructed a timeline of the making on my blog, that you can consult at atagong.com/iggy/archives/2023/09/incarceration-of-a-flower-child.html. But yeah, this is a very early trailer of the HYGIY documentary, from a time it wasn't called HYGIY even.

Awful considerate of you thinking me here, Im also obliged you making clear I’m not here? Syd put people in tears from laughing so hard . Days later still laughing. Dark side of moon laughing is reference to syd. Syd at the park? One time during mid 70s Floyd was in studio (back then Pink floyd would sit around thinking ideas. Listening to old recordings rehearsals the band made. Listening for ideas’ wasting money studio time. Song ‘Vegetable man’ came on song by Syd’. The band members begin laughing, and laughing rolling on the floor.. The band would stop for min, burst laughing again tears non stop. Nothing in studio was accomplished.. The Floyd couldn’t stop laughing. Because of Syd. Syd had been gone for years
