If I'm not mistaken, Raro was an NZ territory until around 1966 when they became semi-independent with certain legal ties to NZ. I've been to both countries and for all intents and purposes, the Cooks are New Zealand Junior. Kiwi accents, money, products in stores, etc.

I've been to Rarotonga several times over the years, always staying on Muri beach. The colorful sunrises on Muri beach, over the several islets in the background, are truly an epic sight to behold. The only thing better than a Rarotonga sunrise is an Aitutaki sunset! Are these coral lagoons hypnotic or what? And you're 100% right about Raro's pace of life being slower and more leisurely - the locals know it and call it "island time." And you have the practical advantage of the Cooks only 4 hours away from you; it's 10 hours from me in the US.
@DaneAndStacey4 жыл бұрын
Oh and Aitutaki sunset sounds incredible, we would absolutely LOVE to visit someday. Hope you get to visit again someday!
@nathanfitzgerald66514 жыл бұрын
@@DaneAndStacey WIth Aitutaki's lagoon, I've never seen a body of water in my life that was flowing with so many different cascading colors (depending on the sun's angle & clouds). It's like a lagoon mixed with a kaleidoscope, swirls of visual candy to look at! Raro and Aitutaki are very different islands with different things to offer, it's an apples vs. oranges thing.

Haven't been there for over 20 years. Will plan a trip there in the next few years. Been twice before. Seem to always get a sunburn there. There is an excellent skin lotion with lanolin and aloe vera that works wonders for sunburnt skin.

According to info I just found, getting there would be quite the journey (30+ hours from Canada)... from what you showed us, it would be worth it!

i flew from Ottawa in 2010 on my way to Australia - very much worth the long journey ;) thinking about doing it again late this year or next year

That's quite the journey! It does seem like most tourism is based on Aus and NZ visitors at the moment

How did you get to the hotel from airport?. Did you take a taxi?. Is it expensive?
@DaneAndStacey Жыл бұрын
Most hotels have either free transfers, or paid ones for a smallish fee about $50 I think. Or rent a car and do it yourself!

It is a very beautiful paradise island. Is it very expensive to live or to visit Rarotonga?
@DaneAndStacey4 жыл бұрын
It's such a beautiful place! Accommodation would be the biggest expense but everything else seemed very reasonable :)

I want a lovely garland like the one Stacey was rocking on the boat trip. :D Great vlog. Am I right in thinking the Cook Islands start every day before the rest of the world? Like don't they have New Year first before anyone else anywhere?
@ItingaNicholas4 жыл бұрын
Lulu 1266 That would be NZ. We here in the Cooks are about 22 hours behind NZ and about 3+ hours behind the US.

@@ItingaNicholas Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. So in fact you can watch all the New Year celebrations from around the world and then start your own. I would love to visit your part of the world and Daneger and Stacey clearly love it there :)

If I won the lottery I'd base myself out of Roratonga and travel from there it's only a 3 hour flight to Auckland and there are daily flights and it's got what I want there ,but very honest people and friendly. I'd probably get a boat and doing interisland charting and a big barge to tow behind and take cars and machinery to the other islands
