i think やばい is SORT of comparable to "sick"? like how we use it in the US (but especially California lol). or at least comparable in how many ways it can be used both negatively and positively. like "sick" can be literal illness, it can be used to describe something as gross or immoral or repulsive, or it can be used in excitement over something being fun or cool or badass.
