I’ve been collecting for over 20 years. My collection has been all over the place from getting games I loved or thought were interesting, to now going for a complete PS1 collection, which is a huge undertaking. I’ve gotten a lot of flack myself from where I purchase my games, but as you stated, it’s your money you do with it what you want. Everyone collects differently, whether it be to fill a gameroom, for nostalgia, or to play the games. I’m the collector that likes to play all the games she gets. Yes, I have a backlog but I know I’ll get through it one of these days. Every game that gets purchased will be played, because in my mind if I spend $500 for a title, that’s gonna be played! 😂 Collecting brings us a lot of joy and that’s all that matters. Game On! From the PlayStation Girl. ❤❤❤

I agree with a lot of the points you made. I have been collecting since I got my first NES game and console. I grew up lower middle class, and we valued and saved everything, which is why most of my collection is CIB. And back when renting was a thing, we used that to determine what game was worth putting all of our allowance towards and buying. I have saved almost every game and console I obtained because I was taught to appreciate all I earned and worked hard for, so I feel that's also part of the humble beginning part. When I look at all us content creators, I like seeing each other's collections, learning about each other, and seeing what we have in common and don't. Do I feel a bit jealous when I see pieces I had or want? Yes, but I also like that fellow collectors appreciate the same items. Collecting in my area has become more competitive, so while collecting had slowed down for me I have started turning my passion for collecting into preservation and somewhat a gaming historian. Solid video.

I think Tom from Do You Nerd said it best on our last video about hot takes; to some degree, we're all gatekeepers and we all have opinions about gaming and collecting. I think it's probably the same for anyone that collects anything. You always get some sort of flack. At the end of the day we need to understand we're not all the same and our goals and opinions are not all equal. Personally, I don't care what happens outside of my game room. What I want to do with my collection is for me to decide.

Well, I feel collecting is just a safeguard against the whole "u will own nothing, and be happy". If the future holds some resemblance to predictions of minimalism then the old physical media will become priceless. It's like any other antique of the past. My husband and I have each been gamers practically our whole lives; long before we met. Some things we own that are rare now are things from our childhoods or we bought before it was considered valuable. Home should be a persons happy place and our shared love of video games is what brings us joy.

When I hear video game collector... all I think of is that one person... (That must have every single video game ever made for a console / handheld regardless of how bad the console's / handheld's library truly is. It's a cool idea at first, but what bothers me is the amount of shovelware these consoles & handhelds have. I lean towards a curated collection. Simply because time, space, money, & energy is required. Between work, family, friends, + other hobbies. It comes down to time. My collection is always evolving as time goes on. Whether it's expanding or decluttering. I never had a collection of more than 50 games. All between N64, gbc, gba, gamecube, ds, & wii. I've never bothered collecting games until this year. I had about 10 titles for my 3ds, 12 for my switch, & 3 for my xbox series x. I'm currently at 179 titles, but as I play through them one by one.. I will be downsizing the ones that I don't like a lot. 100 of them are for my xbox series x, 69 for my switch, 10 for my 3ds. I always thought I'd go back and replay my games I grew up with as a kid. The sad reality is they sat in plastic bin in a dark closet for years. I realized that I had no desire to replay them . I felt it was better to let go and let someone else enjoy them.

8:47 - It seems like some arcades have a particular smell, too. My sense of smell is not very good, but while visiting a local pinball arcade recently, I smelled the same scent I remembered smelling at an arcade I frequently visited way back in 1991, where I first played _Street Fighter II_ and other classic early-'90s games. 11:01 - For me, "collector" can be quite positive. My mother collects stamps, and I've never heard anyone deride that hobby. But today, many collectors have websites and KZbin channels where they effectively share their collections with everyone. This is the first video I came across from your channel and I want to say you have an awesome collection! I also agree with your statement mostly on video game collecting but I don't know what was your favorite system growing up on whether it was Atari, Nintendo, Sega, ETC... I grew up on the Sega Saturn when that system was considered unpopular. I've played a lot of games on it, not all were great, but many were fun. Where I grew up everybody was playing either Playstation or N64 at the time. Now for some reason, almost everybody wants to collect for a failed system which is driving the prices way too high and I feel most of these people who buy Saturn games only collect it to display it and not play it. I do have a great collection of Saturn games which I don't play often but at least I have played them all at one point and I'm still on the hunt for certain Saturn games that I haven't played yet. Unfortunately, it is just getting too expensive.

In my years of watching the community I've seen that it's a LOT of jealousy from people. Especially directed at you if you are a content creator and even more so if you are a CC who actively resells for content. It's difficult for many to watch someone get amazing deals on great or expensive titles, only to watch them resell it or put it up on a shelf, never to be played. Also difficult to see someone with a massive collection continue to actively collect, without realizing they might be in a great financial situation to afford it. I've seen so many people from so many different backgrounds with huge or cool collections. Many were in the game for over 20-30+ years and started when everything was cheap. Others strategically flipped and/or traded their way into their collections, making use of online forums and Discord. Seen wealthy people buy their way in. Seen really smart people do dumpster diving, curb pick ups and house/storage unit clean outs to get there. There's so many different avenues to get what you want, but effort is required. I'm fully convinced that if you have more than 100 physical video games, you're a "shelf collector" regardless. The question however is... Who cares? 😂 Just so long as it bring you joy and happiness to have the stuff in any capacity. There's already a lot of depressing crap to go around daily in our lives.

Speaking as a collector of just more than video games. I like the convenience I can access a game I want to play and play it. Sure I have sold some things in the past whether I regret it or not, but sometimes that does happen. Does it mean I don’t want to play those games? No it doesn’t. Of course I have a backlog only because sometimes there is a game that I want to play more often than others and when I want a break I’ll play that. Modern games these days have a long time commitment whereas the games from the Atari to maybe around the Super Nintendo/Sega Genesis era they didn’t take up as much time like these story driven games we have nowadays. I just want to play my games in peace and just ignore the negativity that others want to create. It’s just not worth my time just to argue about it.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4S9poGvf6eMoJIsi=LlQ3CeVhhJtBPlaV I talk more in depth about it in this video. It’s a Nintendo 64 K B Toys cabinet from back in the day. When the Nintendo 64 phased out employees were to change it over to the Nintendo GameCube. There aren’t many complete Nintendo 64 with the red TVs or the Nintendo GameCube ones complete out there. I got it in a pick up from someone who got it directly from there back in the day. It’s all official and has the original parts on it.

I don't know why the term "shelf collector" gets a negative reputation. If someone enjoys basking in a collection that they never intent on playing, that's their joy to be had, and more over, it's a very specific joy that warrants collecting... because you can only get it by collecting! How can anybody be mad a that? It's honestly no different than collecting art, or for better example, Pokemon cards. Many people collect Pokemon cards just to have them, without ever playing the actual game the cards are made for, yet I've *NEVER* seen anyone get mad at others about it. The game collecting world should be no different. At the end of the day, people just need to F off wit their entitlement.

First off I believe a person can be a gamer and not a collector but 99% of collectors are gamers. In the end no one except your significant other and yourself has any say in what you spend your own money on. While I am a realist and understand that I probably will never be able to play through every game I have the intention to do so. As long as you are having fun and not negatively impacting your life or the lives of loved ones than just do you. 🤙🏻

The usa is in a league of it's own, as you have space in basements, attic, extensions. Where I'm from it needs to fit in a car parking space. There is definitely an element of some folk using social media as a driving element of the large collections. If you had nobody to show your enthusiasm would be less. I started in 1994 and your collection is 20x bigger than mine, and I have no channel to show mine of. It's just for me.

Brandi the only judgement I make about you is that you must have the blessing of space to buy all those gihugous displays! Other than that, people complaining about collectors driving up prices is just sour grapes. They're just mad they can't score games for a dollar or two at garage sales anymore. Supply and demand is a law and whining 'I'm cheap' doesn't get you anywhere.

Hey, dont feel bad about your hobby.....its a good constructive hobby for one to pass one from generation to generation. I mean,..if i didnt have my collections..God knows what would occupy me. It scares me think about it. Its taken me decades and many deals and failures to establish my videogame collection. A big part of collecting is timing, i was blessed to have been around when those rare items were cheap. Dont let jealous people judge for what they dont have. Emulation is availble to everyone these days.

I am sad that marketplace and garage sales are literally a dead zone now because of all the resellers, but I really enjoy collecting. Now just have buy on eBay and local stores. I think some of the bad faith actors have really destroyed the fun of the hunt. For example phoenix, Rick, and Chase that have brought so many resellers to the community. They are in it for the money ONLY and their stupid whatnot streams. I used to like all those channels but they have had a negative effect on collecting. Sorry just my opinion. There’s many reasons why there’s no deals out there, and that’s just one of them.
@GamerAhmer

Nothing wrong with your opinion. It’s always good to hear what others think about the hobby. I’m always curious to know. And luckily I still get lucky at my thrift stores. They have an influx of items and are constantly putting out merchandise. So sometimes I beat the local resellers to good deals. Not always but often.
