I watched this several years ago and I thought then that Al had done a remarkable job in representing Haverhill in a positive light .. I grew up in Haverhill in what was referred to as 'The Acre,' up on the Avenues .. I ran across this again today and I thought it only fitting to leave Mr. Al Brenner a positive review for a terrific presentation .. And yes, it has rekindled old memories of my youth in Haverhill. Hello y'all from SW Florida ..

Some of my best memories were growing up in Haverhill especially during the summers. I remember listening to Queen and The Moody Blues on the radio and watching James Bond on TV one summer and riding my Schwinn Varsity around town. That was heaven.....

Very nicely done - I grew up in Haverhill, Dad was a banker, Mom and brother still live there. I remember the Paramount, but not the 1936 flood. Glad to hear Mitchell's remembered - and I suppose "DiBurro's Bar" later became Pat DiBurro's restaurant.

Thank you. I thought the commentary was great, informational yet bittersweet as it relates to how times have changed, but not always for the better.

Loved this. My grandmother worked in the factories you mentioned. My grandfather was a brick mason and helped build the Haverhill stadium. My father had a typewriter business on Fleet Street. Lots of family history in Haverhill.

I grow up in Lowell, at that time we only had a few mills that was making shoes. I worked at one of them. I was under 18 so couldn't work the machines. I was a fold for the guys that cut the shoes. The job sucked, I worked summer and winter, but I know I had it made then the people who was shipped over to work in them, I got paid overtime and got a raise

Huh. I wonder if my grandmother worked with your aunt at the social security office in the Gale building. My grandmother got the job after being widowed with four very young daughters on her hands and worked there for 27 years, from 1936 to 1963 when her health failed and she died. Our family started the Burchell Coal Co. back in the day and the Kellys worked in shoes. Lots of history there.

Quite possible. It was so many years ago. "Burchell Coal Co" Yes, that is history isn't it/ Thanks for watching the video.

What a great video of "where I also grew up"... So sad that it has changed "for the worse" over the years... Haverhill was a peaceful City back then, not any longer though, but then again gangs and violence have taken over most everywhere in AMERICA...

I am a direct descendant of George Corliss...founder of Poplar Lawn Marked at 2:27 in this video. The genealogical book written about Corliss family history ended with birth of my great great grandparents. We have oil painting, only thing besides a sketch of poplar lawn. Our first descendants unfortunately took pride in slaughter of 10/12 Indians commemorated with huge statue.

You dont know what to think of the fact we dont produce anything anymore? Not all factories were terrible places. Some things were produced in small shops and small factories. I used to go to the cookie factory in my town on field trips from school. It was clean, not huge and the workers were happy. It is who runs the factoris. If you get a monster running them for greedy desires and is stingy, then they will be bad. But if you have unions and laws, then it is good. I have seen many small facories online that look great. so please dont discourage our industry. We can rebuild it and give people good jobs. We can stop monopolies and corporations that exploit people. Labor can be valuable again. Food can be healthy again. We just have to get rid of this liberal mindset. We dont need peopld doing all this media work on the internet, making propaganda and fake news, lousiy soungs and bad movies. It does nothing for american culture. God Help us. Go back.
