What made this place wonderful was the people, the place made it happen, the happy feeling and the smells, no one mentioned the wonderful smells wafting out of the doors onto the street. I went for the chocolates at Woolworth, wow!

Absolutely loved watching this video. I have lived in North Andover for most of my life, but married a Haverhill "boy". He will view this tomorrow. Sad that so many historic buildings had to be demolished, though...same as in my hometown. Thank you to all who put this wonderful historical video together.

I thoroughly enjoyed this video, I wish I could step back in time to experience what the community and downtown was like back in the day. What a pity to have lost it all. This is the way things should have stayed.

Great to see all the stores in downtown Haverhill. I remember going into the store as a kid in the late 1950s with my Mom when I was about 4 or 5 years old. Shame nothing ever worked on that corner after it closed and it was torn down. Mitchell's...yes with the tubes to send money to the office upstairs. Always fun to watch that happen. Mom says she used to go in there and was able to charge items...yes, Miss Hamel, we'll get that wrapped up for you and on your mother's account.

I moved to Haverhill in '98. Now its the year 2020. Now all Haverhill is are just apartments, crappy restaurants, nasty chop shops & really nothing to do. Seeing old vintage Haverhill the way it use to be looked so busy & fun. Now its just a sh#t show. I wish they could bring all this back so i could experience it

I born and raised in Haverhill MA. and it was the best city to live in.. Love this video.. Once urban renewal came to Haverhill everything was lost.. I don't know why cities do that because it totally destroys the character of the beautiful cities/towns..

My mother would run up a store charge at Bannon's on the corner of White St and Winter St so we didn't go downtown much. I was about 7 or 8 and was the first time I went shopping for Christmas and also bought my mother the evening in Paris perfume every year after that. I found out years later she said she hated it. I miss all those stores and looking at the puppies in the window. Couldn't wait until I was 16 to get my license so I could go to Woolworths, they closed the year I got my license :-( Right now 7/27/21 there is no reason to go downtown.

Being a Barrett and knowing how they used the poor. They talk about how they would gather at the stores, wishing they could just have a drink, some drinks was just 25 where other would charge 40 to 60 cents. At that time it wasn’t really noticed but they was in great affliction. They came in with their artificial entertainment. Being a Barrett it was sad to watch the poor suffering

My mother is Jo-Ann Osborne born and raised in Haverhill. My Grandfather perished in the line of duty. He was a Lieutenant with the Haverhill Fire Department, I never met him. He died when my mother was 2 years old. I just recently retired from public service here in central NH as a police officer, 25 years. I've reached out a couple times to Haverhill Fire for info on my grandfather with no response. I look at the HFD website and they have my grandfathers name misspelled, this pains me.

Those newer buildings look horrible. They look like chinese pagodas. what a shame they did not try to duplicate the old historical styel of architecture which is really the american culture. I don't think it will ever be the same because they are creating lego world.
