Those lights look interesting. As a blacksmith, I tend to keep my shop dark so I can see the true color of the steel I'm forging, but then I have to flip on the overhead fluorescents that are harsh as harsh can get! Good to see products not made in Chicom Territory. If I can find them over on this side of the Pond, I'll definitely give them a go!

fascinating watching the journey on this restoration & very interesting to see the impact of the lighting in situ. I know a lot of people are concerned about the time & money aspect but for me this is about creating something, a work of art, as well as keeping a piece of automotive history alive for future generations. I guess filming & publishing the journey helps keep it affordable at least.

When I was 10 I got a job at a garage. When I was 13 the boss bought himself a 356. One night it was my turn to lock up at midnight so he would go home around 6pm i drove his porsche up to the pumps filled it with fuel and he drove off home. Following day I arrive at work at 4pm and the Porsche was all burnt out except for a bit of paint on the rear engine bay door. On the way home that night he got a puncture opened up the bonnet as he was taking out the jack he dropped it onto the battery this was enough to ignite the petrol fumes that had collected under the bonnet and then the whole lot went up, Barry my boss got away with burnt eyebrows and hair. He was gutted as he said it was the most reliable car he'd ever owned.

This is a passion project! I doubt it would ever be worth the money if you had to pay someone to do the restoration. But for you love of the car, and us getting to watch on your channel, it's perfect. In a sense it's great that it's as far gone as it is, because we get to see what it takes to get through a 'difficult' restoration. It would be no fun at all if all it needed was a couple of parts and a coat of paint. 🙂

Yes, there is a lot of work ahead, but it only means you (and us!) have more opportunities to learn. I'm curious to discover what after market panels are available, and what panels need to be fabricated... Watching the process of how it all comes together will be insightful, so please keep at it. The real bonus is that a car that most would have parted out will now be saved.

The order for spraying any vehicle is hardest to get to areas first (in car, underside etc) the parts you don't see much of next(inner wings etc) and finaly areas you see most of last (exterior etc) saves you trailing airlines over freshly painted areas.

Hello Dom. Looks like it maybe a while before the spot welder is needed !! It's perfect for this project . So wished l lived nearer . I'm chomping at the bit to lend a hand !!! So is John a willing volunteer or do you pay as you go ....and mates rates ! That bead blasting must have cost north of £500 ..... Keep at it Dom . My number one tip ....don't look at the whole car , just concentrate on one piece at a time . Or do something completely different now and then , which is what you'll probably be doing in any case ! Cheers !

Nice process I’ve used silicon sand but it would destroy your car. After I blast anything I use phosphate acid that you can get at your Home Depot not sure what you have there but it’s in the paint department and it works amazing to neutralize the rust without painting it right away. I’m going to blast my 356 soon after I get a little bit more of rust repaired to stabilize my car. I’m about at the same in my build except my front fenders are made and the inner and outer rockers are done battery box is done and now I’m working on the rear section that I cut out and it is still good but really needed it off to roll it on my English wheel. I’m going to use my pressure washer with a sandblasting attachment and going to use a mixer of glass with baking soda to cut cost and be a little more gentle with it because I don’t have the right equipment like you have there I’m just to cheap to have someone doing it for me
@stevepurbrickactor5208 Жыл бұрын
Do you have to fabricate ALL the replacement tin, or can you get off-the-shelf panel parts?
@oldschool1993 Жыл бұрын
A better choice is a zinc or copper based weldable primer which will prevent rust, but leave you with a surface that can be patched and welded.
@stevecarter4129 Жыл бұрын
Another great video Dom thank you. I want to power blast my Humber Sceptre as it is covered in surface rust, after I stripped it and left it for a long time in an ordinary primer. I don't need to strip out the headlining & the roof has a vinyl covering, both of which are in good condition. So I am intending to buy a sandblaster & strip the metal back in small sections, praying it after each session. Can you tell me what primer you have used after the blasting, it looks like it is able to be left in primer indefinitely without rusting, also what ratio you mixed it in to spray please.
