Agreed on the sixth gear! I’ve had mine five years and still hunt for another on on top. My T-120 Bonneville ruins me for this. These could easily use the extra cog up the top end and the new ones have got it. I can’t see myself ever selling my 2007 Bol d’Or as it’s just pure joy to ride this powerful, heavy bike that can give quite a few sports bikes a fright. And when anyone starts banging on about horsepower ….. big torque at normal riding speeds is far more useful than another 50hp at a gazillion RPM. BTW - the thinking man only washes cups as required, when required …. anything else is just showing off!👍🏻
@TinsonTour
@TinsonTour 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely Dave... omg people go on about bhp when in the real world its low down fat arse dragging torque that u need .... the phantom 6th gear of the cb it really really does need 1

Maybe the gear clusters will become available? Probably for the cost of the bike. It’s more of a slight annoyance than a real issue and an indication of the more you have, the more you want. Always longed for a 5-speed on the Commando, and they’re available, but that never stopped me going like the clappers anyway as a teenager. 😁 Subscribed!

Size of bike, always a hot topic. Went to Cornwall recently with my brother, me on my 1200 explorer him on his CBR600RR. Told me my bike too bike, but only filled up once slightly heavy but can flat foot it. He looked in agony and I was comfy as hell, cruise control helps mind. Came back by myself did 3 hrs non stop, got off to fill up then another hour not a prob. Get what and ride what you want

Love your ethos, " have what you're gonna have" each to their own and never mind what anyone else does or says. I also admire your optimism, believing in what's being dangled like a carrot on a stick. We live to follow our dreams, sadly now they're being influenced by those, who now having gained the power to control us, are never going to relinquish that power. Right now, Scots who chose to go on a UK based cruise are refused entry to their homeland due to restrictions. Yet for those travelling from further afield, including abroad, travel remains unrestricted? If we don't take what we want, we'll get what we're given and that could mean Stay local for life. A ride for freedom may be required to secure a future of riding for enjoyment.
@TinsonTour
@TinsonTour 3 жыл бұрын
Cheers pal and luckily I'm probably the most street wise person i know and don't believe a single thing they dangle , as u say the powers that be will never relinquish the suppressive controlling system they have created and more to the point some of the rules/ restrictions they have come up with well ....... in the real world you couldn't make them up but fingers crossed it all eases sooner rather than later as not sure the public would put up with it much longer 👍
@michaellilley6725
@michaellilley6725 3 жыл бұрын
@@TinsonTour Thanks for your reply, many people like yourself who took the Jag hoping to explore the freedom it promised are going to be livid just like you say, but I have a feeling they expected rebellion much sooner. They will then instill Martial law and have us under even worse restrictions. I think that's why European borders are closed, to prevent us from uniting and taking back one country at a time. As a biker since the age of sixteen, some 45years ago, I can tell you the bikers of old wouldn't have stood for it. We can still rally thousands of bikers to support the Veterans, who having sacrificed their lives for our freedoms, must now be turning in their graves. To add insult to injury the only people laying wreaths last year were those who have betrayed all that they fought for. I hope for all our sakes we can turn the tables, but already we have modern bikers who have lost that old respect and sense of comradary, they also seem to have lost a couple of vital pieces of anatomy.

That was a good ride out, must have been a good one and a half hours, from yours up Southport way down to Formby and back home through Ainsdale area. Yeah Shaun, you have your rant about bike size, every bike is too heavey for yer if you've not, or can't get yer feet on the ground, don't matter wether you're a new or experienced rider!! My hay fever has not been too bad this year, well not yet. I only suffer with the trees, once they are done, the flowers can do what they want. Just blow yer nose, wash face and head/hair (where applicable🤔), change pillow covers regulary, to at least get a good nights sleep. Stay safe, greets S. in 🇨🇭

Well said about Faye's bike, when you were looking at what to buy I had a look at the 'rules' and I couldn't believe some of the bikes ruled out because of the 'lack of' power.' Not trying to tell you how to 'suck eggs' for a minute, you've done many thousands more miles than I ever have, but I check what revs it's pulling compared to the speedo and treat it like a 'gear indicator' (whatever one of them is) before looking for another gear...so as an example my old 500 single pulls (indicated) 60mph at 4K in 5th (top)...if it's over 4K at 60 then there's another cog left in the box....if it's on 'the numbers' then I'll give the gearbox some sympathy, as there are no cogs left in the 'box'. Simples.
@TinsonTour
@TinsonTour 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah absolutely Paul the rules around A licence bikes are a minefield , as for the gears it's just muscle memory that's catching me out not revs or road speed it's just I've been riding 6 gear bikes for 32yrs now and your foot just knows how many clicks until your in top cog so still trying to re train the old brain , same as the indicator and horn I'm always pressing the horn to cancel indicators but it'll get there 👍

Great banter on the weight/size/power debate around bikes. Picking up a VFR1200F on Saturday 265kg/im flat footed on it/170bhp, does anyone need that much power with the state of the UK roads plus speed tax cameras ? No probably not, but its available and choice plus some kind of democracy is still alive in Britain . . . .

I wouldn’t have thought a big 4 like that with all that creamy power would need more than 5 gears .maybe a sprocket tweak for long cruising . I was always looking for a seventh gear on my old 600 bandit & that pulled well in mid range for only 79 Hp .Agree with you about the covid jab I suffer with a long term lung disease so I had my 2nd on Saturday .I reckon any one needing to do anything like going on holiday ,pub or hotel will need to prove they been jabbed ,but its up to personal choice .Suffer these days with the hey fever eyes water & nose runs even just drinking real hoppy ales .Always liked big Honda & Suzuki fours that’s a fine example,,it’s what the bike is worth to you that counts .I also like your African twin just made for adventures, You & Faye take care ride safe 👍

CB1000R riding position but worse buy ever Crosstourer DCT good bike but far too heavy for me. Once test rode both an RT & GS hated both. Some years later traded a Triumph 1050 unbelievably for a GS , because like you others convinced me about them when I went on a tour and three riders were riding them. As I rode away from the showroom I suddenly "got it " and have loved them ever since. Just like to buy a new one now 😉 We have a great Harley dealership down here but the price of one is definitely out of the reach of my pension. Stay safe. And yes each to their own.
