To me, a hybrid mixer, I think that hardware is best at being analog and digital is best at being digital. I've learned that when you're not trying to emulate analog, digital mixes sound just as good or better. For example, when you use distortion and saturation, you're not trying to emulate SSL, but add harmonics in the way that you think is suitable for your mix. That's PERFECT for getting the exact character that you want from an instrument, auxiliary or full mix. When comparing digital emulations to their hardware counterparts, it will always fall short, in being exact and as good. I've done many blind tests and I got over 90% of them correct. This doesn't mean that it serves no purpose, but it just isn't as good as hardware at being REAL and ANALOG. Thank you for sharing your mix and ideas. It indeed sounds good.

IK Multimedia has the same kind of plugin called MixBox, for those that don't like McDSP for some reason. There is also PSP InfiniStrip from PSP Audio. and finally there is the Slate Digital Virtual Mix Rack. Just want to inform people of the choices they have right now. 🥰

McDSP and MBSI is a great combination. Put a Studer A800 tape plugin in the first slot and maybe a DBX 160 where needed and you’re good to go.

Thanks for the VDO, just wanna share my personal opinion, no hate here, just stating what I hear. To me ITB mix sounds big but stuffy, sounds like , the CLA mix (SSL console) is more open, wider, low mids are cleaner and each sound is more defined.

@Kinghand Lee what are the electric guitar vsts that can get you that same tone as the electric guitars on the track here? When you soloed them they sounded amazing. Is there a software instrument that can make that same beautiful and edgy, hard and vibrating tone of a professional electric guitar player? Thank you. This is my first time coming across your videos and watching you. I have a lot to learn. Have a good day.

I remember one of my first ever analog gear being a $600 compressor. When I put it up against plugins at the time, I was like...this sounds the same lol..why did I spend all this money. I really feel plugins now a days sound sooo good, it's crazy man! Also great video, hope to see more of these! Do you recommend using McDSP plugins/channel strip? For EQ and Compressors, I use mainly Waves and few others from Plugin Alliance and UAD.

@@digitalmarketinghumans it doesn't matter what plugin you use. The most important thing is to get a specific characteristic from a plugin that can emulate a specific hardware. That's why I use multiple plugins to get the console sound.

Great philosophical answers. I don’t agree with either one of them. Yes they are supposed to compete and compare and be similar. Thats why they are called emulators. they were designed specifically for those reasons. Maybe another 5 -10 years these answers would make sense because the software technology would have completely surpassed analog but right now we are at the crossroads of comparison let’s not get too crazy with the futuristic outlook of what software is going to do which we all know it’s going to do anyways. Let’s stick to reality and the reality today is they’re not too far away from each other. And the other reality is the skill to do what was done here in the video is not accessible to all so I wouldn’t throw out all your gear yet if that’s the type of sound you want and you’re good at getting it to sound that way.

@@kinghandleeI’ve been performing writing and producing a long time. I just recently got into mastering. I don’t think you do anything on purpose but come on let’s be real. We put in a new guy let’s say he’s new to digital . Let’s keep it easy Show him this video and tell him to replicate. You and I both know he’s not going to be able to come out with the sound that you have his first time or his second or his third and who knows how many times it takes. And that’s a song that is available to him given him footnotes or the process tailored just for this song. Now give him a song that was not already figured out by you and he’s lost. My point was simple clear there’s a huge learning curve for the stuff. I don’t care who you are.. I’ve i’ve been mastering for maybe a year now and I didn’t just walk into it. I do in like 12 hour days 5- 6 days a week for about six months straight. And even I knew you were skipping a lot of things that I know I learned that seems trivial and small to even myself, but huge to someone that doesn’t know them.

The last piece of hardware equipment I owned was my favorite preamp for vocals, and that’s the Avalon. Now I have the emulator from native I believe and it works just as good. And I do have music and it’s not bad if you’re into my genre. Each one of my songs gets I don’t know 50k plays avg the first week. Dabled with Spotify, but haven’t been able to crack that monster, yet with a couple songs that I have on there. But Facebook is doing all right. But thanx for asking
