I also think that needles become warm after a lot of vigorous stabbing and then that softens them and makes them snap. So I have two needles the same size and work with one for a little while and then give that a rest and use the other. I actually prefer finer needles though, even at the start, but that’s just me. I also hardly ever work with wire. I just felt hard. I use a finger guard now and then if I am doing something very small. But I cut the fingers off a washing up rubber glove. Easy to slip on and off and gives that little bit of protection.

Thank you for your videos, I’m learning so much! Made my first project yesterday - a hamster key ring. I am really pleased with it, it’s certainly not perfect, but it was made with love! One question, how easy is it to overwork the wool? And if you do, should you add more layers to compensate and try to correct, or just abandon? Thank you, take care
@feltsbyphilippa3 жыл бұрын
It takes a long time to over work the wool (does depend a bit on wool type). If you do over work it, it's hard to get your shape as you can't change it. Adding wool would help a bit but if you've really over worked it even this might prove tricky. I would hate to abandon it, maybe trim it down with scissors and try adding a layer x

Genuine question, are needle felted items susceptible to moths? If so, is there any ways to prevent it? I'm so glad I found your videos! They've helped me a lot. I'm wondering about getting some advice though. I'm working on a mixed media sculpture right now. It is polymer clay and needle felted wool. You mentioned not to do felting in the air, to make sure it's on a mat, but what if I can't place my felting area to the mat? The clay and felting share the same armature, and there are larger pieces of clay that go up around the area I'm felting that keep me from pressing it to the mat. Do you have any suggestion of what I might be able to do?
@feltsbyphilippa3 жыл бұрын
If I am doing legs then I place things underneath to support them. Can you hold the armature to support it. I think you will probably be fine but most people stab themselves when holding the wool in their hand in the air. It does feel faster to felt with support under the wool but if you can't then you can't, sounds very interesting, hope it's going well x
