Yes, it can seem a bit confusing but decent needles (38g triangular copes well with most things) and carded wool helps keep it simple, glad you like the channel and keep practicing xx

I'm so happy to have discovered your channel. I adore the endless possibilities that needle felting gives us but as a beginner, it's quite a lot to learn and the terms (wet felting, core wool, cardi wool for example). I'm pretty sure that watching your videos will help me and hopefully boost my confidence too. I am absolutely desperate to make toadstools and ladybugs to start off with and am so excited about receiving my first felting kit. I bought some additional needles and wool too (Hobbycraft). I do wish I'd watched some of your videos before i went ahead and ordered them but they weren't expensive and will hopefully help me get a feel for felting.Thank you so much for taking the time to share your wealth of experience with us, I wouldn't dare try otherwise. 💕

Hi Philippa! I'm absolutely loving your detailed, thoughtfully presented videos, and I can't wait to buy myself a kit (I was so pleased to see you'd already recommended the one I've been eyeing off!) 😍 I was just wondering how you get a smooth finish, less in terms of fluffiness as you've addressed in other videos, but more in terms of the underside of something like these hearts where the folds from the initial felting and all the needle marks are, or where you might join something on? Thanks 😊
@feltsbyphilippa2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you, glad you enjoy my videos. If you are joining something, say a leg, leave the top part of the leg fluffy. Spread the wool out and join it. Then take a really thin layer of wool, spread it out and cover it over the join marks. The wool should be carded not tops, it's much easier to cover join marks with. I think I show using thin layers in my pigs video attaching the legs xx
@donovd3624 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your thorough videos. I’ve started with a few simple projects. I don’t seem to get a smooth surface - I have fuzzy fibers showing. Any ideas? Am I not needling enough? Thanks again for your wonderful videos. I purchased the supplies from Amazon based on your recommendations.
@feltsbyphilippa Жыл бұрын
It can depend on your wool and needles, check out my getting technical playlist, there's videos on there for smooth finishes. A carded Corriedale wool and a 40 triangle need should get a smooth finish with time but start with a 36 or 38 needle in the beginning. Once felted together move to a finer needle xx

Hi Philippa Brand new to your channel and to felting 🐏 I want to make a memorial heart from the undercoat of my GSD. Could I felt fur on top of a woollen heart core? I'm going to practice first but I wondered if this is something that might work as I only have the fur from the last time I groomed her. Thank you so much for your help and wisdom, you're an inspiration ❤❤❤
@feltsbyphilippa Жыл бұрын
Hi there, thanks so much for watching the channel and for your comment. Yes, you can definitely felt dog hair, I haven't done it but lots of people do. The undercoat, as you mention, is definitely better. If it doesn't felt to the wool base then maybe mix it with another similar colour. I'm afraid it's a bit or trial and error but sheep, goats and alpaca wools all felt together fine so it should work, best of luck xx

Hi, sorry they aren't branded, I probably got them in a beginner kit a while ago. I'm not sure if any finger guards are felting machine safe, maybe a metal type? I felt safe wearing them with my felting machine but still not 100% sure they would hold up if the needle got close xx
