As a native Californian that moved into a skoolie to keep up with cost of living here, I felt it in my soul when she said “Getting priced out of paradise” and “ Hawaii needs Hawaiians”. After years of watching these tours I took the plunge and started living alternatively. At 27 years old I’ve found the most stability in my life living in my bus. With these beach side views in West LA I have no regrets. Now I’m putting rent into saving for a homestead. Anything is possible y’all. You just gotta believe you can do it. ❤

Aloha sister!! I live in Lahaina. I’ve been living in a “shed” in my yard for a couple years now. I needed extra room fast. Don’t need a permit for 10x12. I let my son and his family move into the house, and I had some one build a 10x12. I get to see my mo’opuna. I love it. I use water fed from the washing machine ( I learned don’t use yard water). Propane hot water shower. Little fridge and air conditioner is all I need. Note….my house was one of the few that didn’t burn

@The.Hawaiian.Kingdom29 күн бұрын
Being born and raised here doesn’t make your mom Hawaiian, Hawaiian is the ethnicity of the ABORIGINAL native people, is your mom kānaka maoli?
@jwiki127 күн бұрын
@@The.Hawaiian.Kingdomwhy is it that you assume everyone outside of kanaka maoli as bad? I understand the history and the deceit of the haole. None of us were the people who did this to the islands anymore than any of us made blacks slaves. Hawaii needs more people to come together for change not to be divided. Not only for kanaka but for us all. I find it sad that the plantation owners and businessmen took advantage but we are not those people and there are more of us who care about these islands than you think. Aloha!
@The.Hawaiian.Kingdom27 күн бұрын
@@jwiki1 I never expressed an opinion anywhere even remotely near suggesting one ethnicity (or multiple of them) being “bad”. Therefore YOU are the one making assumptions, so you should ask YOURSELF why YOU are making assumptions. As for the “none of us alive today did these things” argument, that’s not true. Multiple international law organizations have agreed that the U.S. never actually annexed the Hawaiian Kingdom and therefore “Hawai’i” is not and never was part of the US, and these organizations have called upon the US to end its unlawful occupation of the Hawaiian Kingdom… these organization have joined forces with our COR legal team to help aid in ending the U.S. occupation, one organization created a subcommittee solely dedicated to it and numerous political scientists and IL experts are aiding us as well. The Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague also confirmed that the Hawaiian Kingdom constitutes to exist as a sovereign country… it’s so widely agreed upon at this point that it’s a senseless waste of time to even debate it. So with that understanding, Article 49 of the fourth Geneva Convention states that an occupying power (in this case the US) is not allowed to transport any part of its civilian population into a country it occupies (the Hawaiian Kingdom). This means that every American to set foot in our country since 1-17-1893 is participating in violating this international law. Likewise an occupying power unlawfully selling lands of an occupied country is also a violation of international law, it’s called “pillaging”…. there’s countless other examples but with those as examples you can understand that non-Hawaiians in fact ARE STILL participating in crimes against Hawaiians (Hawaiian being a NATIONALITY) meaning subjects of the Hawaiian Kingdom (not to be confused with kānaka maoli, the ethnicity of the aboriginal people), it’s not something someone else did… international law violations can be tried as w^% cr^%es and there’s no statute of limitations on them, in the eyes of the law, it doesn’t matter if it happened yesterday or 1000 years ago. If you’re not kanaka maoli or a Hawaiian subject, you don’t get a say in what “Hawai’i” needs, it’s not your country and you are subject to deportation when the unlawful occupation ends, no matter how much you CLAIM to care about OUR -islands- country. My distaste for you has nothing to do with your ethnicity, hating peoole for the color of their skin is a haole people thing to discriminate against, not a Hawaiian one. I dislike ALL Americans regardless of their ethnicity… let’s not pretend haoles are the only ones happily ignoring how Hawaiians are being stollen from, simply because you enjoy the benefits of our mistreatment, no, EVERYONE here turns a blind eye to it, but you see it. You see our sacred sites being destroyed, our ancient burial sites being dug up to build you strip malls and gated communities, our artifacts being stollen, taken or illegally sold off. Save your farewell sentiments of “Aloha”, you know nothing about aloha when you are living on land stollen from us.
@The.Hawaiian.Kingdom27 күн бұрын
@@jwiki1 I never said anything even remotely suggesting one ethnicity or another is bad, therefore it’s YOU who is making assumption. As for the rest of your comment, you may want to look more thoroughly into the OUR history which you claim to “understand”, because in accordance to international law, these aren’t thing that happened to Hawaiians, these are CRIMES that continue to happen to Hawaiians this very day, meaning people here today are still participating in it. You can spare me the “Aloha” salutation, people who treat us and OUR islands the way you do, know nothing about aloha.

You are an inspiration! I have been trying to find the ways and means to reach the right people to work with toward building entire tiny home communities here to help all people, and particularly the homeless, be able to have permanent safe housing. The perfect place for container homes where high levels of insulation are not required with the temperate weather. Building inward for thick levels of insulation take away livable space. I think a shed style roof could work really well to reduce temperature load from the sun and give shade for a porch and additional surface area for more solar and rain-water capture. Plus, Hawaii is perfect for outdoor lifestyle and a large patio area would exploit this. But this would negate the ease of mobility of the home as well. Excellent design work from this owner.

This is a terrific example of a container home. The biggest obstacle to creative small home solutions are the zoning/building code/NIMBY issues in most communities. These need to be changed so self built and or much smaller footprint homes,called tiny, are allowed. Solar and compost/ other toilet options exist and mean you can opt out of main utilities as well, currently not allowed in many locales. Rural areas do not always work for elders who need to be near medical facilities either, so urban/suburban solutions are necessary,
