I was a nanny for couple who worked on luxury Airbus planes (one designed interiors, the other the mechanical engineering), and it was all good until one of them brought home a roll of what was basically aluminium duct tape to fix something on one of their cars. 1 million miles at an average of 500 MPH would mean they have flown 40 hours per week for 50 weeks. So they just finished up their first year of flying. Likewise the plane flying 10 million miles means it has flown an average of 8 hours per day every single day for nearly 7 years.
@JSchroederee Жыл бұрын

I was checking a different way. Average lifespan of a commercial aircraft is 51,000 hours of pressurized flight. I used your estimate of 500 MPH, which comes out to 25.5 million miles. I was thinking a million miles was a low number because I know trucker teams that can do that many in 7 years

The least worrying and most assuring thing they said was that the pilot was 90 years old. He probably a vet from WWII all the way to the Gulf War. He’s been landing and flying planes while being shot at, landing that piece of junk is nothing to him.

Random fact: although the line "everyone go to the front so the plane can point down" was obviously written as a joke, there is some truth to that. Planes are very sensitive when it comes to what is called "weights and measures," meaning the weight of the passengers in the cabin, and the luggage in the cargo hold, and flights have to be coordinated to make sure weight is distributed in a way to make the takeoff, flight, and landing stable. I was once on a redeye flight that only had five passengers on it, and even though you would think that with that few number, you'd be able to sit wherever you wanted, the flight attendants actually had to seat us in different rows in different parts of the plane or it would have been off-balance.
