I grew up in Kaliua and it was amazing! If I had to buy a house on Oahu today, I’d choose Hawaii Kai for the boating life style and proximity to Honolulu.

You 2 are too funny! Great Vid. Hawaii Kai has Hanauma Bay(some of the best snorkeling anywhere). Hawaii Kai is hot & dry, & no hospital. Kailua has the Koolau Mountains & Lanikai Beach(one of the nicest beaches anywhere). Muanawili got mosquitos & mold because it rains so much. Both places are some of the best areas on the island to live, but too expensive for normal people to afford.

When you compare neighborhoods you need to mention schools for those families with school aged kids. Schools in HIKai are ranked higher than Kailua

Looking at that high rise in Hawai’i Kai is disgusting. O’ahu should have done the same thing that Kaua’i did, illegal to build anything taller than a coconut tree. These developers have ruined O’ahu. Horrible. I remember Waikiki when I was last there back in the 1970s. That was the last time I have set foot on Waikiki and I freakin live on this island. I refuse to see town with all the tall buildings. Gross. Like NYC.

Neither one. Both are for mostly wealthy mainland transplants with mainland attitudes. Yes I am sort of from mainland (moved from there but grew up in Tokyo and my family has been on Kaua’i for over 30 years so call me what you want to call me but I don’t have the same attitude…and am not wealthy) Oh but that being said, let’s say I found me a sugar daddy and had to choose between the two, still neither. North Shore baby.
