These law makers, dont have a clue what they have on thier hands here. Un-banning fireworks could potentially put Hawaii on the map for MORE tourists attractions. I mean look at the possibilities... tax from fireworks, tourism bringing more visitors and money Into the state, and overall just making hawaii an even more unique place to visit during the holidays. Also, The people of Hawaii wont have to pay for expensive fireworks displays and it will all go back to the state. The people are happy, the state gets there cut. It's a win-win situation. I know we cant please everyone with thier health issues such as asthma, or thier pets, or even fires. But, if you think about it, theres a remedy for all that. Eg. Asthmatic people can either stay indoors and load up inhalers or possibly go to a indoor safe haven because they do accommodate for that in movie theaters. And how about more businesses opening up for safe havens? and making money? Also, for pets... i take my dog to a vet to get examined for a tranquilizer to help her with the loud "booms". She was super chill by the way when the fireworks went off. As for fires, in my opinion when done correctly, it can all be preventable... I say how bout educating the people on the do's and don'ts when lighting fireworks. Maybe even having classes to show people how it's done. Possibly having water hoses on hand, maybe dampening the house a little etc. But this happens once a year... one BIG night for the people of hawaii... this is our CULTURE, this is our TRADITION which makes us unique than other states. This is our home... Its a time where ALL walks of life come together as one and unite to remember our childhood, and the people who we've lost over the years, Be with family, freinds, and neighbors...and to just celebrate what's next In our up coming year and lives. This is who we are. No matter what these law makers decide... fireworks on NYE, will ALWAYS be here. Whether they like it or not. Dont they know the saying "if life hands you lemons, make lemonade?" In this case, if the people of hawaii gives you aerials and fireworks displays... lol, I'll let you decide *insert ---here*. This new years is dedicated to my mother and father who I've lost and is no longer here in this world. Wished you guys could've seen this. You wouldve loved it. It was beautiful. Aloha everyone... and btw awesome vid brutha!

Boogiedeguilboogie thank you very much. I enjoy making these videos every year to showcase Hawaii’s traditions and culture and so those that moved away to wherever they are in the world can never forget where they came from and the rich culture that we in Hawaii have. Culture is something that has been slowly disappearing in Hawaii but always seem to “reignite it on New Year’s Eve” lol. My grandma who I miss a lot used to tell me stories of the old days in Hawaii and the New Year’s Eve traditions. My grandma was asthmatic but we did whatever we could, including getting her an oxygen tank, so that she could enjoy New Year’s Eve. What the lawmakers did was a knee jerk reaction to please the minority that hate fireworks for whatever reason. That’s pretty sad when you have to go on the black market to buy fountains, sparklers, morning glory’s, and other novelties. It’s even more sad that Oahu is the only island that bans novelty fireworks. What do you expect from the people after you just stripped them away of the traditions that we have celebrated for decades. This is a culture war and the politicians got to much pride to let up. I agree with you in that the politicians could have setup some education on handling fireworks properly and the safety of it. They were gonna ban firecrackers too but came to a compromise on just novelties for only Oahu. Taxing fireworks could have funded upgrades for our education system and fix our sucky roads. We have the worst roads on the nation. But anyways happy new year to you and your ohana. Looking forward to 2020!!

I'm from Hawaii, and my time spent / lived there I have enjoyed playing with fireworks, and yes even now at age 51 I still yearn to play with fireworks at New Years, although I live up here on the mainland (California) I miss those days. I haven't forgotten what it was like to be that kid on New Year's Eve back home. Mr. Governor why in the name of Lord Zeus would you restrict your people and take away the things that they enjoy? I'm no genius in politics, but isn't it in your best interest to please / support the people? Taking away fireworks on the one night that has been "special" for decades / generations and now you want to take that away. I don't understand why you would do that. The only industry Hawaii truly has is tourism in which that favors only the hotel industry, and for that "the people" are down right miserable, there's nothing that supports the local economy. Now here it is, another New Year approaching and you are willing to make your people that much more miserable because you're taking away the one freedom / thing that they can get together and truly makes them happy. Take a good look at the pathetic governor in California, he's being recalled. Both he and his "machine" has grown too big for their own britches and decided to treat the state like "Big Brother" (George Orwell's 1984-you might want to read it some time). California's governor is being recalled. Is that what you want your legacy to be? Quite frankly I'm surprised the people of Hawaii haven't initiated that movement yet. Mr Governor, from what I've observed you clearly lack the intelligence and most importantly the balls to act boldly. Support your people, or the people will replace you and stand up and say in one voice - "You're fired!!"

Aloha from grapeview Washington. Born and raised in kaneohe I like how they want to ban. They should just legalize it take the money off the taxes.every years the same old thing nobody says nothing and then when New year's comes around it when a band this and band that. Love the video. That's kind of a bummer where they ban sparklers fountains. 🥺 Call up your representatives and let him know. How you guys feel take care God bless aloha.

I'm curious. Why do we pop fireworks mostly during the new years and not the 4th of July? Is it mostly a cultural thing?

America illegally overthrew the Hawaiian queen and the Hawaii government, many here still consider Hawaii under illegal occupation so celebrating independence would be a contradiction.
