Hawaii under Tsunami Watch after 8.1 earthquake off Alaska

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) announced the State of Hawaii is under a Tsunami Watch after an 8.1 magnitude earthquake struck off Alaska on Wednesday, July 28.

I am Japanese. I will tell you what to do in the event of an earthquake in Japan. Don't panic in the event of an earthquake, and hide under your desk to protect your head. Let's put out the fire later. When the shaking subsides, put out the fire. And in the case of a big earthquake, a tsunami may come, so evacuate to a high place immediately. Even if you go to a high place, do not stay there, but move toward a higher place as much as possible. This is what you should do in the event of a big earthquake.

Even here in New Zealand the government issued a statement that we didn't need to worry about a tsunami from this event but it was worth mentioning. Hawaii is one third of the way between Alaska and New Zealand.
