Hawaiian Culture Tips: What native Hawaiians are like, etc.

You're grouping together several different sub cultures that are actually Asian or European and piecing them together into one thing. It's important to note that a lot of what you're describing isn't "Native Hawaiian" culture or Kanaka, but local culture of the residents whose ancestors came from parts of Asia and Europe. Remember that "Native Hawaiian" or Kanaka refers to the customs and the traditions of the people who are related to the Aboriginal Hawaiians that occupied the land before colonization. Simply owning property in Hawaii doesn't make you a "Native Hawaiian." It would be as asinine as saying that you were black because you grew up in a black neighborhood when you are in fact anglo saxon or white.

I am Black and Hawaiian but I am not a native Hawaiian. I have never been to Hawaii but my father was Hawaiian. So I have been trying to learn more about my culture would any of my fellow Hawaiians have any tips on how to do that?

aloha. Look at my comment i said to the other person on this video. You are native hawaiian no matter how much blood you get. If you want to find out more about hawaiian culture. I would say a hawaiian history textbook.

What is the difference between native Hawaiian and Hawaiian? Is there still fully blooded Hawaiians? What is Kanaka Maoli?? I went to a indigenous conference and was told there are no full blooded kanaka maoli by Hawaiians but another staunch Hawaiian on KZbin said there's 4000-8000 fully blooded Hawaiians is that different to kanaka maoli? Are there any people in Hawaii who are of Chinese descent, because I think my great-grandmother was from Hawaii originally, but she had a Chinese sounding name and features.

Yes...Chinese were the first people to immigrate to Hawaii during the plantation era...because a lot of them came without wives they are the most absorbed of the Asian peoples, that is there was more intermarriage...as another poster mentioned, there are very few full blooded Native Hawaiians, but MANY people in Hawaii with significant Native Hawaiian ancestry have Chinese surnames.
