Living on the Oregon Coast, I would have to agree that we also have trash all over on the side of the roads but we have lots of transients and 99 percent most likely comes from the locals. I think most tourists respect the places the go so, at least I do, and clean up after themselves and are mindful of that kind of stuff. There are some I'm sure as is everywhere but Maui reminds me of the Oregon Coast quite a bit in some places. Can't wait to go visit in April. By far the best video I've seen on all the must see site topics. Thank you for the tips!

This year, she took 2 private lessons w/Nick from Island Style Adventures. She improved so much. She’s fine the zip line tour & you’re right, it’s fantastic. Scuba divers & those wanting to try it for the first time- call Brent at BRB diving. He’s a great guy. Took our 15 year old out, who was very unsure, but she did it!! Disagree on going to Costco right from the airport- there is temptation to some seedy individuals, to break into vehicles that have luggage in them. Either go there after u have dropped off your luggage at your destination, or if possible, have someone stay back in your car while other folks do the shopping. Break ins are just a way of life (everywhere) now days.

I have to disagree with your claim about staying on the leeward side. We always stay in upcountry or north shore and the weather there is gorgeous. Yes, it rains there, but it's short and warm. If you're from Canada or northern USA, you'll love it. The temperatures are nice, the entire area smells like a tropical flower garden, and the roadside fruit/vegetable stands are everywhere. Take advantage of them (and don't short change them, these people sell their produce at a very reasonable price so don't be a jerk. Haole already have a tough time there, don't make it worse for us).

Ima Pseudonym Aloha Ima! Good point actually. Not everyone demands constant sunshine. I actually lived in Kula for 4 years and loved the weather. While at Costco, be sure to buy a few bags of root chips, made in hawaii by Hawaiian Chip Company. You can only get them in Hawaii and they are delicious and healthy for you. I buy extra bags so I can bring them back to California with me. YUMMMM!!! And Eric - Thanks for this informative video !!

@Lan Anh Hoang Thi Normally Yes. Thats why its a "membership club" But I heard that if you go to the one in Maui and tell the guy at the door who checks for membership cards that you are on vacation and then you do a hula dance and sing "Tiny Bubbles" or the theme to " Hawaii 5-0" they will make an exception. Please let me know how it goes. And post your video here.

Invest in a rode micro mic that comes with the wind sock. You might need a separate camera app on your phone to use a TRS microphone or aka external microphone. I had a really cheap "action camera" from Amazon for like 100$ that came with a ton of accessories to shoot underwater. I bet you couldn't tell the difference between the China brand and gopro. If you review them they'll send you extra batteries. Total of 4! I had an extendo pole for my snorkeling stuff. Really helped with some creative angles and close up's to fish. Costco is the cheapest place on the island for memory cards. I had a gimble for my phone but none of the buttons worked for Android. Still stabalized but I couldn't do panning time lapses. Best wishes for the new year and on your journey!

I've never seen so much tourist hate - even in Paris, Greece, etc. I understand tourists can be oblivious, annoying, litter, etc. but most of them are just trying to see an amazing place for the first time. Even on KZbin (speaking to you Kas Kahea) they are ruthless. Come to the mainland and nobody cares. You want a picture of the Empire State Building, go right ahead. Just blows my mind that such a beautiful place is full of such hatred and selfishness.

Jack Carlos Aloha Jack - fortunately it’s only a very small loud minority of haters. The vast majority of locals on Maui are amazing, kind and loving people. We all SUPER appreciate (and economically depend on) the visitors we host from all over the world. The Spirit of Love aka Aloha **always** prevails and conquers all!!!
@markk41875 жыл бұрын
My rental car broke down at a gas station and I had two locals willing to help me out in minutes. One guy busted out tools while we trouble shoot'd the problem. Saved me 1/2 a day dealing with the RC company! Never seen any tourist hate the whole trip!

Honeymooned in Lahaina in 1983 and just fell in love with Maui🌴 I highly recommend for awesome fish plates go to Cafe Olei! We always make a few trips there! Such great prices and the most delicious plate lunches! Also, since we love golfing.. try Pukalani Golf course! A hidden gem and so much fun to play! Don’t forget Charley Young beach to catch a beautiful sunset! Enjoy everyone ~ hang loose and keep smiling🥰🌴🌊🌈🌺

It is expensive so be aware of that. Renting a bedroom will be approx 800 a month. A studio? 1100-1200 a month. Also our infrastructure is really not going to sustain the increasing population on maui. We have one main highway, two lanes...to get from West side to east side....if you dont absolutely have to commute for your job, avoid it. Also we're having some water crises. Our aquifers are not doing well. Injection well leakages are killing the coral. I want to get out because im kind of pessimistic about where maui is headed. Biggest tip? Make sure you can land a GOOD job. Many people come here enticed by the idea of living in paradise and then when they have to work 3 jobs to survive and have no free time to enjoy the paradise they envisioned, theyre miserable. And dont plan on raising kids here unless you want some of the worst public education in the country. I dont hate it here. In fact im grateful very often that im here. I just want to temper your potential romanticism. But if you're called, you're called. My boyfriend felt called here and met me and we're the loves of each others lives
