I lived in Kihei for 6-1/2 years and frequented Lahaina often. The fire damage was heartbreaking to me. I worked for NaHoku and knew some of the staff on the Front St location. Some friends from my church who lived in one of the housing areas managed to leave in time and miraculously the fire stopped at their back fence of their home that was still standing. I have followed all of your videos and appreciate then very much, thank you!

Been going to Maui since 2001. Lahaina has always held a special place in my heart, and the people of Maui was my first experience of a completely different culture. No other culture has ever had as profound an impact on me as the people of Maui. My heart is heavy for all of them, and I will not return until they have had their privacy and space while they endure this tragedy. I wish I knew the last time I was in Lahaina, just months before, would be the last I’d ever see it like I had through childhood and adulthood. Thanks for the video, hang on to your Aloha my friends.

Hey Jesse, you touched upon it briefly, but do you know how fast the rebuilding of businesses is going on in Lahaina? I feel if businesses bounce back soon, the revenue they generate will trickle down to the residents, which would in turn help the locals rebuild their homes sooner. Also, even though it's very unfortunate that Maui has to be rebuilt, is there a silver lining in that it is looked upon as an opportunity to be built better than it was before? Are there any examples of that?

It's healing watching, but so difficult seeing where I had hoped to spend the rest of my days all gone. I lived and contributed freely trying to always make things better in Lahaina, mostly for decades. I suffer so much being one of the last out on 08-08. I've received no help promised since December, 2023. To have EVERYTHING I've earned my whole life gone and now in poverty with everlasting injuries is hard to bare. I saved others, yet now when in need, I have no basic help, no social services, no financial. So very few care. I was just beginning to heal from circumstances beyond my control when this destroyed everything.I can't buy basic needs. At least I'm getting food stamps, but NOTHING else. Huge doctor shortage. Cost of living is getting ridiculously out of hand. Bullying and racism celebrated. Little respect for elders. Please pray for me. Every day seems to bring MORE difficulties, instead of less.

It was awful. Fireworks are out of hand. Had to experience the same symptoms of PTSD all over again with huge setbacks due to illegal "bombs" going off non stomp. Google Honolulu Oahu 4 deaths, 40 injured New Years Eve. It's like that everywhere, almost. Corruption and stupidity for wasting money on things that hurt every living thing, is NOT a Hawaiian tradition.

If the fire was started by downed power lines, would this not be a good time to bury those lines, before reconstruction gets started? Is that being discussed? I realize might be feasible or affordable, but it would be nice to improve the infrastructure. It looks like some of the town already has buried utilities?

Jesse, thank you for such an informative update, for the time you take to do the driving and the editing. It is really great to see Lahaina from the road. I wonder if you have any idea how much it costs the average person to rebuild the average house there? Are many locals wealthy enough to pay for their old mortgage and take on a new loan for rebuilding? I'm super glad you mentioned Habitat for Humanity - that is a fantastic way to directly help the people of Lahaina. Thank you again for all you do. I look forward to every video you produce! :-)

Hello ! I have heard a lot about this tragic event with the fire in Lahaina*I generally had a strong conviction based on information from independent media that this fire was not accidental, although the conditions were indeed favorable for its occurrence...*Based on your video reports and other video sources about this event, I am strengthened in my conviction that the event occurred as a result of human/human interference (?)..*There are too many facts that, according to the probability calculation, had a very small chance of happening ...AT THE SAME TIME*The same applies to the physics of combustion, temperature and "selectivity" of fire locations*Regarding the blocking of the evacuation of the Lahaina population by the local police, this simply comments itself..*Irresistibly, I ask myself who could have benefited the most...from the complete destruction of the town, along with...the killing of the property owners...and I think most thinking people have already known the answer...I pray that the Lord God will give wisdom and strength to the Lahaina community so that you can EFFECTIVELY face it adversities and that no one will benefit from your harm...*Best regards from Poland

Cookie cutter Condos ?! That's not Hawaii or Maui. They could be any of Hundreds of Condo Complexes on the Mainland ! There is very little of Lahaina's character was shown.
@carolj-m86852 ай бұрын
That’s because that was what burned, video shows how all the older areas were decimated, but newer more affluent areas survived, due to building materials, planting, but videos shows the reality.
@jimbayler42772 ай бұрын
@@carolj-m8685 True.... Lahaina will never have its flavor or atmosphere back if the rebuild ends up looking like those Condos. It will just look like any number of similar places on the Mainland. There is no denying the devastation that took place, and it will take many years to recover. We know what it looked like and felt like before. We also had10 members of our extended Ohana displaced by the Fires. It is just sickening what was lost. My gripe is that this video felt more like a Real Estate Viewing.

Look at Bezos net worth. If the average family has a net worth of $100,000 this would be the same as them donating $.99. I’ve donated thousands and I know others have as well. For that to equal out to Bezos, he would have to donate 2.25 billion. It’s all about percentages Judy. Not so impressive now. Not trying to be an asshole, just putting it in perspective. Remember that was also tax deductible which I am sure he has to hit a certain number each year. And at the end of the day, it is better than a sharp stick in the eye, but if I told you I donated 99 cents to Lahaina, you wouldn’t think it was very impressive. Beyoncé, Obamas, Hollywood will make sure they get coverage on donations they make, then compare it to their net worth, sometimes comes out to if you or I donated a dime. It’s all about the percentages not the dollars.Remember Oprah conned the corrupt Hawaiian government to sell her 1000 acres for $6 mil. Guess how many acres she donated to help homeless Hawaiians? 0! Read about her naughty school in Africa. Be careful the false idols you worship. They are nothing more than silver tongued snake oil salesmen
@judyt.32282 ай бұрын
I absolutely agree with you!!! I know all of this... Oprah owns enough of Maui to give each family one acre!!!!!! I do not like them, so much money and not helping to the fullest!!!! I know for myself if I had 50 million it would be handed over to the families....this was a land grab!
@judyt.32282 ай бұрын

Thanks for the update. I’ve spent a little time on Maui but many years in Kauai. How the Biden administration has handled this is absolutely disgraceful. 200 billion to Ukraine and the Middle East. Pennies for HI!! DISGUSTING!! Let Hawaii secede. All of the Hawaiians I am friends with hate America and the colonization. People get worked up about Ukraine yet we’ve done the same thing to Hawaii. Set them free!! It amazes me the Hawaii continues to vote for a party that loves to victimize them. Hawaiians are strong, hardworking, family oriented people. Hawaiians are conservatives, they just don’t know it, they have just been preached to that they are victims. Stand up for yourselves and take your land back!!!
@Cherrysmith28092 ай бұрын
Stop! You are misinformed. I live here. The Feds have spent billions to detox and clear an entire town of the debris, and to place all the residents in housing, rent free, which is ongoing. They set up recovery centers to help with all concerns, they are putting in new sewer systems and so much more. Rebuilding the structures is, of course, up to the owners and their insurance companies. What more do you want? You have Trump now.
