After playing Path of Exile for the first time 6 months ago, I don't think I can ever enjoy another ARPG again. It really is the S Tier ARPG in my opinion. I think if I had not played it, I would enjoy Diablo 4 a lot more. Ignorance is bliss.
Thanks to Lily for the lightbulb moment and link to her video here:

This is me aswell right now! I played the hell out of D4 first 2 seasons then discovered PoE. I just can't get back into D4 at the moment. I think it's the lack of variations of skills that kills it for me where PoE has endless possibilities and variations to choose from.

well and true, but i think PoE players (especially content creators) treat it more like a vacation kinda deal, diablo is way simpler and easier to chill out, which is "worse" than PoE in terms of what it offers and dont get me wrong PoE has that chill factor aswell but with a way higher entry fee. I am myself a long time PoE player and i could never put as much time into diablo 4 as i did into PoE (almost 3k so far) but its nice to play something similar ARPG style just with way less brain function :D It definitely falls off quicker, I now have about 20 hours into the d4 season (yeah not alot) but thats almost enough for the itch, translated to PoE that would be about hours to scratch it the same and i wouldn´t stop there. Just my 2 cents tho ;)

II cursed and never play with the different character build options, always know what i want to play and stick with it, hate games which content is dependent on trying different builds cause for they are short cause of that. Till day i play only one class in wow, tried so many times other classes but quickly go back to my main, same with ARPG's like PoE where entire content is just different way of killing mobs, build variety completly dont interest me.

PoE is just one of those games where you keep coming back to. You surely take your breaks and it's actually recommended so that you don't burn out, but you can always keep coming back whenever you get the itch for an ARPG. P.D.: Once you get to know everything you have to know about PoE, you will finally be able to just play other stuff whenever you are done with each league

@AnimaPrisma_
@AnimaPrisma_ Ай бұрын
@nibelungvalesti not really. I understand the general gist of most things and I can easily reach a "satisfied" point every league where I can just be done until the next one. You don't really need to play a whole league to enjoy the game in all of its depths. The more knowledge you gain, the faster you will clear content each league and the faster you will learn the most important details of what there is to learn. Sure, they can mix and match stuff every league, and that is what keeps the game fresh, but you will still know most of what you need to know already to be efficient enough.

For me personally I think my problem with both of the games is the lack of social features. I played D2 and loved it because of its time the internet wasn't as a big deal so I was highly content playing alone. Then came D3 which I came into late and all the social features where there for me in the beginning jumping in GR's and trying to beat my friends and then playing with those friends to try to beat out someone on the leader boards with a group. I have noticed im more inclined to play games with friends thats what keeps me coming back the competition between me and my friend group. However D4 lost most of my friends whom have play all diablo games and they wont return. I get I could hop on discord and find people to play with I just don't want to do that im currently on console. POE and even last epoch reignited the creator within me and made me play just to test builds even without playing with friends... with all this being said D4 is showing signs of promise which could potentially bring back players and thats good enough for me to entertain the game with one character each season until its fun again. I have enjoyed the game so far and once I get bored ill leave and play something else. I don't care to support or not support a game for its ethics... im supporting fun and entertainment for me. Play it if its fun, if its not fun don't play it. Its too easy

Because of that, I found PoE. PoE ruined me too, because now I know, there is always hope, when your favorite game get ruined, you have hope to find new one. Oh and D4? Sorry, doesn't even feel like any Diablo anymore. As I said, that I loved Diablo2 even more than 1... I expect loving PoE2 also more than PoE1.

The car metaphor is really accurate. Most people will go their whole lives without ever driving a high-end sports car, and most of them will also have no desire to do so. They'll all be perfectly happy with what they drive. Some will stick with a Prius, some will go for something higher performance but not quite over the line like a Civic SI and the like. But if you're someone that's actually looking for a "super car" and all that it entails, you'll never really be satisfied with anything else.

Thanks for making this video man. I’ve been feeling exactly the same way. Played Diablo 2 back in the day, And I’ve logged in d4 once a day this week trying to get back into it, but I don’t last longer than 30 minutes. There are so many MAJOR things I’m missing in the game, along side content that just makes POE feel like the winner by a landslide. At a foundation level, D4 is simple, limited, no sense of community (no global chat) everyone’s doing their own thing, and no economy. After getting level 38 doing helltides, I asked.. what else can I do and everyone playing, literally responded with that’s it. I want to like diablo so bad, but they would have to make the game complex for it to even have a chance, but then they would risk it not being appealing to the general casual gamers.

"It's Hawg Baby" That is THE best intro on KZbin. I walk around my house driving my wife crazy because I keep saying "It's Hawg Baby" I also hate Diablo 4, my reason is because they did so much damage to me when I first paid a lot for the game, and I was excited for season 1 and they nerfed everything into the ground. I never got over that and I lost all respect for them and when I hear the name Diablo 4 I get angry now. I'm 5k hours deep in PoE and would class myself as a diablo 4 enjoyer, but the only time I actually enjoy it is when I am well and truly burnt out on a poe league and I have to play HC to get a thrill. What poe has done mechanically cannot simply be matched by a new release. D4 as of this season only has the foundations of a game that could in the future potentially compete for my true attention and passion.

There is a few things that makes me pick POE over D4 1.POE is a bit more hard core vs D4 allot more casual 2. Build variance POE has metas just like D4 but the options are there for you if you can think it you can do it in POE (will it be good maybe not but you have the freedom to try) 3. Content POE has so much content that its almost impossible to really do it all at a high level in 1 league 4. Min maxing if you are the crafting type D4 will feel very bad vs POE 5. Trading D4 finally allows you to trade base items but there no farming 2-3 weeks and going to buy a mage blood or that Bis piece of Armour/weapon for your build. There are more things but i think these are the biggest for me but in short if you are someone who just wants to log in and kill stuff D4 is a amazing game for you if you are the type of person who likes to push your build and your skills POE is the game for you.

Heyo there ! Gonna share my "tiny" story here and some toughts since i kinda feel the same. I played league for like 10 years and got pretty high ranking, almost masters but took a break after i lost 4 back to back promotions after a 17 winning game streak. It felt really bad and the game overall in its "singeplayer" mode (soloq) its terrible. Nowdays I watch it like my father watches football, the high-end 5man gameplay of the game can be really entertaining. After Valorand update i just did not want my pc to get bricked so i unintalled it, hence it was the perfect oportunity and the game wasnt that hot for me anymore. Althought whenever things like Necropolis league happen, my league of legends addcition starts to kick in, or just the need of some game to pour my hole energy into. I played word of warcraft and i still do from time to time, whenever a new expansion or rather new content comes out. I do despise the 4th season being a copy of the content of what the other 3 seasons are. Like, i do somehow understand the joy of running old content again since I'm a pandaria/monk/panda enjoyer (pls dont throw stones) but i won't pay 20$ for the same content as in raids/m+ and plein leveling up my gear to unreasonable ammounts with no clear goal in the game. New raids and m+ are a blast with nice people as always, even mythic progression which i did from time to time. Now, I, most of the times, get bored of simple stuff and when it comes to games if there's not enough complexity to capture my interest and exhaust my brain while playing, i can't really get attached. And path of exile just fits right in. It get's nerdy with numbers, it has a ton of variety, a ton of content, a ton of possibilities and combinations of everything. It's not competitive so if you die its your "fault" and you get to do better and fix stuff on your build, it has trade (which personally i enjoy, but i also do enjoy singeplayer farming) and the fresh leagues every 3/4months are the same thing as starting a new league game : fresh beginning but with reminescence of knowledge you aquire last time. It's amazing and I love it, and after 1.5k hours I still feel like a newbie, because I always somewhere find new stuff. That's what made metry to make poe my new main game so to speak, and I don't think i have other variants really. When thinking about Diablo 4 the fact that they can fuck it up again so easily, i just wouldn't bother to invest time into that game and rather buy poe stashes and aquire more knowledge to be prepared for the next league. Now the thing with POE, atm, it's the fact that this league was too juicy form the get go and they dried it up too much. I just hope they get a sense of the metric of how much loot/power should we get and how much should they nerf it along the way. The league mechanic being strong (referring to graveyard crafting) and rewarding i totally agree. Maybe even with the fact that is hard to get into, with regards to arranging the corpses, calculating the modifers and so on. Where I, personnaly, draw the line is the stocking of corpses. It's absolutely unfair that its absolutely required to buy stashes for space in order to be able to store corpses if you wanna prepare for multiple good crafts at the same time. The morgue has 64 slots or smt and the graveyard has 88, so you basically cant even store as many corpses as you can use within the league mechanic, and given the variety of the corpses i think that new players with 0 quad tabs have literally no chance of arranging the crafting of multiple good high end items with the graveyard system. The all flames and the monsters, very nice, just add a on and off swich for the ppl who kinda wanna ignore it at times, i've heard that was a problem in harcore since it really sucked while leveling, but at the same time i feel like since you play on the league server, asking to ignore the league mechanic it's kinda meh, why not play on standard at that point. ( i do understand the fact that players would like to have the power to change the gameplay themselfs, but maybe that's a little bit too much) Now, to finish off this book of a message. My current plan with poe was to combine 2 archmage builds , goratha's and palsteron's version, such that it would be more tanky, deal more dps and feel good at the same time, which enjoy way more. The thing about the build is that with goratha's version its a 2 button build which does not feel really good. Actually personally it felt absolutely terrible while trying to zoom through maps, which made me not enjoy the game at all, almost hate the hole time i've spend making the build. Then i just tweaked it, smashed it with the other version and not it feels way better since the curse version is a 1 spell zooming menance. So, what i've discovered ( i do have a bad habbit of not understanding simple things ) is that whenever we enjoy/dislike the gameplay could be a fixable thing within the game on our part, maybe changing the build or something else. Since then other streamers are enjoying it so much, it might be worth checking it out from a different angle, if it has one for you, but with the history this game has I wouldn't put too much effort into it anyway ;"D . PS: If this hole thing did not makes sense, I hope it was atleast somewhat interesting/enjoyable to read if any1 reads all of it. :^)

Veteran Diablo franchise player here. Lilly's S tier reveal at 2:04 is spot on. And on top of everything listed on her screen, all the peripherals of the game crush Blizzard as well. PoE's Forums team support, for example, is so miles above D4, that it exists in a different habitat entirely. The knowledge, passion, and involvement in the project of people like Jonathan Rogers for PoE, again, can't even be compared to the generic, placating Bull S*** of D4's fireside chats. The story depth of PoE is so rich, it actually can be classified as lore, while D4's story is an exercise in logically disjointed, tedious time waste written by committee. So on...

This is my opinion, purchased D4 on opening day, played for about 3 weeks, turned off the game left feeling I wasted my hard earned money, didn't feel like it was polished enough to get put out on the market, season 2 came out, played for a week still weak turned it off. Season 3 came around, this time I went and looked at content creators before turning it on again, didn't feel like they made any significant changes to get me back skipped Season 3. Now Season 4 came around read the patch notes, saw the PTS videos on content creators lots of great changes. Turned the game back on, now I am finally having fun. The game still needs more end game content, however the in game mechanics improved night and day. its not painful to play, its actually fun now. I am excited to turn on the game once again, it this was the version that was available on opening night this would have gone so much better for blizzard.

I'm not quite the same in that I'm not a huge POE fan(although POE 2 looks amazing). D4 was pretty good the first few hours. When it was all new and shiny. But after playing it into Season 1, realising how bad SO many things were I gave up. Seeing the progress since didnt give me any hope it would be fixed. Then Season 4 was raved about, I gave it a try. Played a few hours, enjoyed it. But the one thing I didn't do when I stopped playing, was think for a second about it when I wasn't playing. That is a massive warning sign to me...with these types of games if I like it, I'll be thinking of the game, sometimes obssessing about it when not playing it. D4 has never done that for me and this latest season is no different. I have played Last Epoch and enjoyed it but the end game needs a lot of work, which appears to be being worked on so I'll likely play LE again after patches. But I think once POE 2 is out, from how that looks so far, that's what I am banking my ARPG hopes on and I'll never have to sink to playing D4 again.

Hawg, don't worry about it. You love POE, enjoy. I've been playing Diablo games since D1. I remember the DLC that added the monk. But I'm not the type of gamer that plays the same game for months. After a while, I get bored and move on. Part of the reason behind that is that I play all of the classes and then some. I'm playing No Rest for the Wicked now but eventually, I'll move on to Wolcen or Titan Quest or other ARPGs I have. And yeah, I do enjoy DID games too. Eventually, I'll return and enjoy POE and the other games I walked away from.

Same problem here. I still did the D4 S4, but I'm not having much fun. Bosses are simple with dumb oneshot mechanics out of nowhere. 1-100 was an absolute bore fest. Build diversity is a joke and well, there isn't much customization possible compared to LE and PoE. Only reason I manage to move from an ARPG to another is because I make ONE character per season. Once I feel that character is "finished", I'm out (usually 4-5 weeks for PoE/LE. D4 barely lasting 2 weeks for comparison). I'm pretty sure D4 will get there eventually after the 1st expansion, but for now it's still below PoE/LE.

I played D1-4 but not immortals. D4 at this stage it feels smooth to play at least up to lvl 50 world tier 3 where I'm at but it doesn't really draw me in that much. Days can go by that I don't even think about D4. I play 1-2 hours then had enough for that day. D4 isn't good or bad but mid. Then again that's how I feel about Last Epoch as well. Never played PoE though. I think I enjoyed the capstone dungeon and the summoning event where you have to put in materials. But I did that 10 or 20 times then had enough. But that's ok, if I can drop in for a week during season start then drop off, in the end I'll get my moneys worth but it could've been so much better. I haven't spoiled myself by playing PoE yet ;)

As a 43 year old dad I agree. I love d4 because it’s not as complex as Poe. Season 4 and the loot overhaul has the game feeling as good as it ever has. Plus I play on ps5 and Poe just isn’t made for that. D4 feels like it was designed for consoles. I wanna get into Poe but every time I give up after a few hours.

What makes POE fun for me is the Build diversity. It's off the charts. The Support Gems really bring out the diversity in my eyes. Just need to make sure you have the stats for them. There's nothing like it in D4. It reminds me of the days I played D2 where I could build what I wanted regardless if it was viable or not. D3 gave an illusion of build diversity with its Runes for each skill. Yeah, the generator/spender needs to go.

D4 season 4 is now "decent" for me, probably as the game has to be on release but so true after an extensive 800hr + of poe is very hard to grind D4. Endgame doesn't feel engaging for now. i'm sure that D4 will upgrade a lot in the futures seasons but for now i'm waiting to play POE 2 beta so badly....

veteran d2 player, been having fun on d4, on my 3rd character how ever I know I am near my fun point for the season. I swapped to PoE right a few weeks before you and it is by far better than d4. How ever I think the foundation D has now is much better than what PoE started with and will take a few more seasons to create real end game loops like PoE has. Also think D4 just needs to allow full trading of items. PoE is still my main by far, and I will be going back to it in a week or so, but D4 was a nice breathe of fresh air for a few weeks. I think alot of people are enjoying that, also with the necropolis league being at a retention low for GGG, it allowed more people to want something fresh. I think it was just a timing thing. PoE is what i always wanted d2 to be, I hope they continue to improve as they have in d4. I think its a 6 or 7 out of 10 now, but its FINALLY headed in the right direction. I think that is also adding to peoples excitement, They want it to be good and if feels like it finally can. It should have launched in the state it is in now

The progression of gear is similar to anthem which is empty, you pick up an item that is normal, then you get the same item sacred then ancient with very similar or identical stats with slightly better numbers and Iam sure Uber ancient will be implemented in the future. This is a total failure of itemisation. Diablo 3 was the same. Poe has non of this except for yellow and blue items if you get a unique item in Poe yes it’s stats can be a little different but there is not 3 different tiers of the same item. Also there is no endgame if you were given all the best gear in the game in Diablo 4 and told to complete all the different things you can do you would only take a few hours and your done. In Poe you would have 40+hrs of content to farm and complete. In the end D4 is like anthem and Poe is like borderlands 3 fun with many different cool items and ways to combine them.

The thing for me is I had played POE for 5+ years popped into D4 and was like this game is fun cant wait to try (insert dumb build idea here) then every time I tried one I realized it was impossible very quickly. For example was hyped on my first charter to Barb have (started Barb in all 4 Diablo games) was liking duel wield Frenzy so was like cool I want this to be my build but then something my POE conditioned mind was dumbfounded by it had no way so support that playstyle after just a few levels. Was sad but got very far on generic barb build. When I lost all hope for D4 was on my second character pick necro having been always one of my favorites in D2 ONLY WANTED BIG MINON ARMY looked at passive tree NOTHING for minions like 9 nodes total the only way I could get more was level break points WTF so every necro even non-minion ones had the same minions(not counting late game gear) didnt play necro anymore. The final nail in the coffin was the dumb mob level scaling and item level requirements you could not save gear from high level characters for your lower/ set up your new one with good gear. Every time I played D4 I would immediately play POE right after and for longer like... why was I even playing D4 I can do anything in this game?

I feel it's the social aspect. the game is very isolating in a retail wow type of way. POE you have carries, EXP farms, and trade with bots. I'm playing season 4 of Diablo. It's fun, but it's really very short. If you didn't like a skill, you can easily change to another skill with the same character. But the possibilities you have are really very limited. It's like there's a meta that involves about 3-4 builds and anything else you do is simply going to make the overall content of the game 10 or more times worse. On the other hand, in PoE, if you don't like a build, even if it works for almost everyone, the possibilities you have are truly endless. In addition to the trading system, which allows you to get the final version of your build without lose a lot of time and entrust yourself to luck.

Veteran arpg player here. PoE has been the GOAT for a long time in this genre. With over 8k hours on it myself, it's far and away the best arpg availible atm. However, when I just want to just casually play something, I find myself going back to d3 or d4. D4 atm isn't bad, it's also not good yet... it's turn your brain off and watch a show while you get a toon going. I've been going hard in every PoE league for what seems like a decade now. It's nice to not get burned out by playing something else. Whether it's d2-4, elden ring, or cyberpunk 2077. It's nice not to feel burned out and excited for every build I play in PoE. My burnout might come sooner or later than others, but if you play a game long enough, you know what it feels like.

Fun is subjective. I played Diablo IV at release, and a little in Season 1. It was my first ARPG, but it was not a difficult game to understand. I came back played a lot in Season 2, as I discovered a good group of people to play with. Season 3 startedOK, but I got burned out after month. I played Last Epoch next, and found it to be decent, but it seemed to lack much polish. I also think their endgame a little too grindy for my liking. The group play in LE is also much less enjoyable. Next I tried PoE. I liked the game, and I think endgame is fantastic, but I never really gelled with it fully. I never found a like minded group of people to play with. I also think a lot of the bloat is unnecessary. They had several good and bad ideas over past seasons, but never took the time to distill the good from the bad to form a cohesive whole. I like the game but I am only about 10% as comfortable in it as others, and it’s going to take several seasons of studying to grasp it all. I also think the multitude of currencies and crafting recipes is a ridiculous amount of complexity for its own sake. I spent a lot of time looking at this, instead of actually killing things. Now that Diablo IV season 4 is here, I am back, and it’s filling that old itch again. I can voice chat with my online friends, play in a good looking open world, do some decent crafting (without the pain of a thousand RNG hits to get a six link like in PoE), and get access to mounts, evade as an action, and now can trade for gear I need except Uber Uniques. The game is a good foundational place now, and I will gladly pay for expansions.

I played all the diablo games except the cash shop simulator one. Up to and including 4. I don't know, I just can't get into how simplistic diablo is since 3. I would have preferred the full hotbar of skills if I am playing on PC. I didn't really care for how the skill tree is so dumbed down and limited that you know everyone of your class is pretty much building the same character. "oh do you want to hit him with stones, lightning, wind, or fire to build up a meter? note that they will all feel the same". It's simply not something I enjoy anymore. There were really a lot of things I disliked, but the simplicity and .... the broken resistances in particular, annoyed me as it was all over gear and did nothing.

I'd say season 4 has been the best by far, but after introducing me to the ARPG genre and playing Last Epoch and starting to get my feet wet with POE, I can say it's a solid 4 or 5 out of 10. I played D1 on launch in college (it caused me to get a B in one of my engineering classes). So ... I'm an older player for sure. You are 100% correct, PoE makes everything else look like a second rate game, despite it's own flaws (been playing since beta so have watched it evolve). I played 1 week of D4 last summer on launch. It was fun for that week and that was all. I uninstalled and decided to try season 4 to see what the fuss was about. I cranked up to 100 and have taken down some "ubers" and am pushing pit. It's all ... super boring. Bosses are lame/boring compared to PoE. Class/skill combo limitations are annoying (why not a summoner barb?). The "MMO overworld" is useless aside from the helltide grind for Wolf rep. The nightmare dungeons feel like "homework" and I dread every mechanic in there, literally NOTHING exciting about a D4 dungeon. Can't hold a candle to blight, breach, betrayal, legion, rituals, harvest, delirium, etc (like 20+ mechanics) in casual PoE mapping. I am certain D4 will keep getting better ... but they sure are missing some key components right now. Give it 3-4 more years and they will have more content. And maybe Diablo. With dialogue lines hopefully.

I don't play Path of Exile as much anymore, I've been burned out researching different builds, and trying to get it just right, the thing that keeps me going back to Diablo is it's simplicity, there's not so much content that it becomes overwhelming, there's plenty to do, I like the way it looks and feels, I don't know, I typically like both games but for some reason this league in POE isn't grabbing my attention, I'm not a fan boy of either game, I didn't start playing Diablo or games like it until Diablo 3 came out on the Xbox 360, then when I finally got a gaming pc, I started playing more like it, and now I feel like the genre is saturated with different games that are similar and I always just go back to Diablo, always. Last Epoch felt like Path of Exile, and I just wasn't amazed by it, I wasn't excited. My first Diablo game I ever played was the first game and I played it on my grandma's computer, I enjoyed it, but I didn't get to play it after that because I had borrowed it from a fellow student in high school and I didn't have a computer at that time. That's my history with the games, and who knows I may play POE again, but I don't know. The game I've been playing the most isn't even related to either game, American Truck Simulator, I've put in over 1300 hours, I love that game, and that's what I've been playing lately, I have a season 4 barbarian in D4 that I've been leveling and I love it, it's great, and I play on it almost every day, so I'm slowly getting back into Diablo again, and maybe it will be the same with POE, who knows.

I'm old timer, played d1, d2, lots of d3 and I've 40/40 multiple leagues in poe. Poe generally speaking is miles ahead but what diablo 3 usually had over it was how much smoother the gameplay was, poe had lots of jank in it, and for longest time nothing could beat eg the feel of Aether Walker Wiz teleporting around and blasting screens, or WW barb buttery smooth spinning to win etc. Times have changed however and PoE got better in this regard, and now it's hard to play anything beside it when there is so much cool shit I still haven't tried yet even though I've played it for years. The fact that I'm not comparing poe to d4 should say enough how I feel about it, blizz has lots of work ahead of them if they want to even match d3 let alone surpass it and get closer to poe.

Now that I can skip the campaign and a lot of your progression is carried between characters, I feel like I can just play the game. After you beat it once, you start post campaign, you start with most waypoints unlocked, you start with a mount, you start with a ton of skill points, and you can do helltides and whispers from level 1. It's weird, but having a bunch of stuff already completed kind of makes it feel more like a complete game. Like all the stuff that wasted my time before is just out of the way and I can just play it. I've got a couple hundred hours in PoE, but that was after several times dipping my toes in for different seasons, and it was always just too much. That feeling of not knowing how deep the water is kind of turns me off. I always found it pretty difficult to end up with a build that can blast through the game without cheesing build guides, and that's just not how I like to roll. Last Epoch was actually a better time for me while waiting on D4, but it just doesn't have the same depth of content and replayability. I finished LE, got halfway through another character and just moved on for a while so they can drop a couple patches. I don't hate any of them, they're great content, and having more ARPGs to bounce across while other patch up and make more stuff to play is just fine for me.

So Poe was too hard for you so you gave up? Instead of using a “cheesing” build guide you could try to understand why and where your build was suffering. Yes there are cheese builds, but every build pretty much can clear majority of game content, at least t16 maps and pinnacle bosses, some more efficiently than others of course. But then again Poe is not for everyone, if you don’t want to use guides and aren’t stubborn enough to self learn then ya, you’ll quit mid way through the campaign or right after.
