The AXLE is not a moving part and greasing it does little. While the wheel is off carefully remove the outter dust shield then the actual bearing outter cover, using marine trailer grease push the grease into the roller cage till full with your fingers. Spin a few times and repack. Reinstall bearing cap and shield and do the other side. THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE.

correct. i would opt for new bearings as well but re-packing them is just as good

Changing my front sprocket to 15t on my Versys 300 allowed me to ride higher speeds and break it in sooner. Also essential for the Versys as 1 and 2 geared high from the factory.

Thanks, been sitting on these parts for like 3-4 months. Did a little hooning around the other day and the stock chain just sorta fell off. Luckily got it back on and babied it home but clearly a sign the hawk was ready for the new chain and sprockets! It's all put together now, just gotta look up how much slack the chain should have and I'm ready to tighten her down and go for a ride

Just want to give a warning that smaller snap ring pliers will make this job a lot harder than it has to. I got the snap ring off with the harbor freight pliers but spent almost an hour cussing trying to get it back on. Decided to say fuck it and invested in a good set of 10 inch channellock pliers. It went on instantly without having to bend, pry, or hammer it in. It's going to cost around $50 for any decent set of snap ring pliers able to open 2-3 inch snap rings but it was well worth it in labor and frustration. Plus its another tool that will likely last me a lifetime.

How would the 15 sprocket and the 45 sprocket work would it make it a higher gear ⚙️ to make it go a little faster? 🤔
@vanology3606

It would make the gears higher (increased top speed), but it would decrease low end torque (slower take off.)

The original front & rear sprockets seem to be 15 / 50 (teeth)... Do you think the bike would be able to have/handle a smaller rear sprocket (for added addl speed)?

I'm 65 and have been riding my Hawk for three years. It's my general purpose utility bike that I ride when it's too much trouble to pull out the Goldwing, Guzzi, XR650L, one of my CBRs, etc. Honestly the biggest factor is leg length. It sits a bit tall so if you're under maybe 5'8" or so you might be tippy toeing at stops. You can fix that with a shorter shock (under $100). On the other hand if you're on the taller side - I'm 6" and 190 - the step on the seat is a hassle because it's right where you want your butt at. A little bit of amateur upholstery seat shaving will fix you right up. Buy one, you won't be sorry. Good luck!

will this bike cruise at 65 for long periods of time? Like a road trip , across country?
@mototaco6603
@mototaco6603 2 жыл бұрын
well i mean. its "POSSIBLE" with all of the proper mods. but let me tell you, it certainly wont be comfortable. high vibrations, little to no power left at 65. to answer your question, it wouldn't be safe and its definitely not a touring bike. im interested in taking long rides with it in the future though to test this question. for safety's sake im going to just say no 🤷
