Aaron Pryor is the only Jr. division champion who never won a senior weight class title that I consider a TRUE all time great.

I didn't understand why he fought with so much reckless abandon and tenacity until I watched a special on him. Pryor tells the story that as a child his mom told him to never let someone hit you without hitting them back. He said, "OK." All of the sudden, his mom slapped him like he stole something. Aaron stood shocked. His mother then asked, "Why didn't you hit me back?"

Aaron Pryor arguably one of the greatest action fighters of all time. Arguello was an awesome gentleman master boxer who showed his balls by taking on Pryor and lost twice, leonard and hearns both wanted no piece of pryor - beleive that!

Hearns Leonard and Duran all fought each other in their prime years. How come none of them called out Pryor? I'll tell you why. Because they all thought that they could beat Aaron Pryor. And all three of them could beat Pryor. But, they knew god damn well that at his best Pryor would give all three of them a good ass whipping. I knew it and they knew it too.

What time is it Terrence???? I think we all know my brother. Funny story, I am white, grew up just loving Pryor. I am 50. I have a good friend that that is old school Cincinnati black gentleman about 75 named Charles, class act, I call him Charles in charge, because you do not mess with Charles to this day. He told me that Aaron had an older brother that was gay and whoop everyone's a$$ in the neighborhood and was badder than Aaron. Have a good one.

A fight was agreed upon for the fall of 1982 where Pryor was gonna earn 750 000. Ray Leonard was forced to fight a title defense before the fight with Pryor. In May 1982 in Buffalo NY, Sugar Ray suffered a detached retina during the fight against Roger Stafford. Pryor on his way to the fight to taunt SRL and help hype the fight heard on his car radio what had happened before he even got there. SRL retired 6 months later and Pryor never got the fight he deserved Not AP's fault SRL got injured.
@SuperStrik9
@SuperStrik9 11 жыл бұрын
You're right. I'm going off memory here lol. He was supposed to though. Forgot it was in training for that fight that he noticed the detached retina. Doesn't change the fact that he was ducking AP for years and was scheduled to fight him in fall 82.

You can still guessing, but Alexis and Pryor was the best fight ever, and no one gave the respect and chance like Arguello did to Pryor... He was the true champion... wanted to go for the harder road... He fall like a champion... Pryor knows that, that Alexis give his big break... I just wish that they will have go all the way to see the desition...

the thing that sets Pryor apart from almost all other fighters was his legitimate boxing skills. He was a badass brawler that could take any punch you could throw at him, but it was his superior skills of the sweet science that makes him one of the greatest fighters of all time.That's the real reason why SRL didn't want any part of him. SR could handle a brawler with sloppy skills,but could not handle a fighter that could brawl and also fight a disciplined fight. Aaron Pryor FTW

Pryor fought Hearns but that was the amatuers. Hey, don't get me wrong though,Pryor was one helluva fighter and was a phenom. He threw his career away to cocaine and an eye injury caused by Arguello. He was and is still one of the all-time greats because he beat Arguello and for what could have been. I'm just saying that Arguello was another dimesion of fighter he beat. It still boggles my mind.

He was a great champion, this music doesn't add to his legend. Pound for pound, he was the best fighter of the time. In an interview with Sugar Ray, when asked if he would like to fight Pryor, he said, and I quote, "I don't want nothing to do with that boy." And he meant it as respect, and fear, I guess.

Pryor was like a computer game character come to life, phenomenal. Pacquiao is the closest anyone has come to him since, but i don't think Manny has Pryors inhuman ability to absorb a shot.

@bscottdp I think you under estimate Pryor's defense. Pryor's style was the same as a young Mike Tyson. Very aggressive but with constant movement so the fighter is always rolling with the punches. Pryor got knocked down a lot from being off balance more than getting hit with hard punches and he had a very solid chin. I think Leonard could have pulled it out at 147 but I think Pryor would have had a damn good shot. Actually Duran v. Pryor at 135 is the fight I'd of loved to see

eltique2007, I don't remember where I saw this interview, It was a long long time ago. I use to follow everything he did. It must have been on the networks broadcast. Also it's not Pryor's fault that Sugar Ray retired and had been ducking him for years anyways. Pryor used to work over Sugar Ray Leonard whenever they'd spar. I suggest you watch the Pryor Arguello Legendary Nights documentary on youtube. It explains the whole Pryor/Leonard situation.

@lovethick look that was a harsh indictment I I know but the point I'm making is: the 140 division is NOT even 1 of the original 8. His opposition aside from Arguello & Cervantes is dubious considering the plethora of talent that was all around him. My point is he knew exactly where he belonged, and that was at 140, away from the "other" Greats.

2 examples of household named boxers giving little or unknown boxers a chance: F. Trinidad vs B. Hopkins & S. Mosley vs V. Forrest. If S. Mosley never fought V. Forrest, V. Forrest probably would not have a chance 2 have a recognizable name. The same 4 B. Hopkins. After B. Hopkins defeated F. Trinidad & V. Forrest beat S. Mosley, both Hopkins & Forrest became "BIG NAME" boxers and was able 2 draw a bigger crowd more than they were able 2 b 4 the beat "BIG NAME" boxers.

Aaron Pryor did call out Ray Leonard! Do your research! I did mention b 4 that Pryor was 2 risky 4 Leonard. Pryor had everything 2 gain while Leonard had everything 2 lose. Eventhough Pryor was not a household name does not mean he couldn't beat Leonard. One way a boxer can become a household name is boxing against someone who is a household name. Arguello was the only & brave household named boxer 2 give Pryor a chance 2 become a household named boxer.
