That laid the foundation of a young team LEARNING how to win in the playoffs. Not disappointed we didn't make the playoffs, I actually thought we would not after losing to the Rams the way we did the first time. I had a feeling then that loss would come back to bite us because I saw it happen last year. A lot of people point to the Giants loss, and that was inexcusable, but losing to division opponents is always way worse for me. Too many games we played this year just showed we are a not a playoff team, so I am ok with it. What I want to see is what direction we are going in. I think the defense is going the right way, I am happy with the progress, but the offense is shocking to me. I wasn't expecting it to get worse over the course of the year. I am not sure why that continues to happen for us, but I would guess it is because of the roster. I think we have certain really good players that are carrying the rest of the offense and that burden gets to be too much toward the end of the season. I know we got OC and offensive line issues, but I think we have more than that.

Feel like.the roster will look totally different soon. Geno wants a new deal. Metcalf in last year of contract. Lockett set for a big payday soon. Schneider has some real decisions to make this off-season. Just can't see him using essentially half the cap to keep those 3. Trades are coming.

The top 2 quarterbacks who are the only 2 projected to likely become starters will probably be picked in the top 5. After that it's pretty slim pickings and looking at 2-3 developmental prospects who may never arrive at starting quality at all. 2026 class will be slightly better.

@@caitsithism Nobody said anything about tanking, but being happy to miss the playoffs with the worst possible draft pick is crazy. 3 weeks from now nobody will care if Seattle won their last game of the season, not even the multimillion dollar players. Having a slightly better draft pick would be far more beneficial than winning a game absolutely nobody will care about in a few weeks. That better draft pick could play a major role next year, it could be the difference in landing a player we need. Winning next week does absolutely nothing for the team, period.

The problems with the offensive line are exasperated by the play calling. In addition, the scheme was very predictable and defenses really had it easy against us. I'm hoping Grub learns how offenses need to be in the league, he needs to lock in and take it up another level.

I'm glad we aren't in the playoffs(would have been 1 and done). It just makes everyone more accountable. I am also super happy with our D. I was praying and hoping for our Defense to not be a mere fluke like PC's D where we play well for few games and regress. So def this D is going to only get better. On the Offense though I really feel we need a semi overhaul. Coach, QB and DK need to be looked into very seriously. Do we want to be a perennial 9-8 team or do we want to be an automatic SB contenders like Chiefs, 9ers, Bills? If we want the latter we need to have the balls to take some risky decisions which may or may not work. But you'll never know unless you make those moves.

Prediction: Grubb is retained by the Seahawks because his hiring was never about this year, but next year and beyond. Geno is extended for about $35M/yr. Of course much of the very online parts of the fanbase will melt down when Grubb stays and Geno is extended because we're about the passion, but not pragmatism and knowing the true nuts and bolts of building (or elevating as the case is here) a football franchise. We are here to care, but not make decisions for the franchise because we don't know how to do that wisely. But for my money I think retaining Grubb and Geno is a good thing. We'll turn over most of the OL in the offseason, get guys that can run block and get actual push at the LOS, and Grubb's offense will look WAY different with an actually solid line. Right now what they are not saying publicly (because they wouldn't) is that the OL stinks so bad that Grubb has to call a pass out of shotgun even to get 2-3 yards because the confidence in our OL to get the push needed to get those yards on the ground is less likely than a successful pass to get those yards.

Brian you said the issue here is the OL and I agree. I think the OL is so bad it's making our QB and OC look worse because of how they have to work around their ineptitude, but the OC and QB get the brunt of the hate because the QB is so prominent, and everyone's first reaction when things go wrong on offense is to just to say fire the OC. OL failures are bigger than just giving up pressures or committing penalties, in our case even if the protection looks okay they can't do that fundamental thing of actually getting push at the LOS to have an effective run game. This particularly hurts in short yardage and goal to go or even just general RZ situations. We have 3 very bad OL and two pretty good ones. This is, in my opinion, is the lions share of our problems and it ripples downstream to effect everything. Look at how much better the defense got after switching just two linebackers. I suspect the offense has a similar turnaround if we swap three offensive lineman for competent players. During the season there were no better options, but this offseason I expect them to attack this issue first.
