Now that our Traditions Hawken is built, and we have a shooting pouch to carry our tools and a powder horn to carry our powder, it's time to head to the range for some fun. This is the muzzle loading cross over event of the year as we bring all of our winter projects together for some fun at the range.
Watch the video today to see what NMLRA Field Agent Ethan carries in his Hawken Pouch to guarantee a fun day at the range.

TDC inventor Tedd Cash, a legend in black powder science and inventing, passed away this month. Damn fine person. Both your cappers are his legacy. 1:40. Both his inventions. The legacy of craftmanship continues as well...

I've watched a bunch of your videos as you worked on your muzzleloader gear. I just this week finished reworking an old T.C. Hawken. Glued the cracked stock. Refinished it and polished the brass. The barrel was not cleaned after the last range trip years ago so I had to buy a new barrel. I am now ready to see if I can make her shoot! I'm also making a possables bag... horn will be next. Track and I have become good friends here lately! Really enjoy your videos and have learned good info .Thank you... good stuff!

Doesn't require "hours" to properly clean a muzzle loader. I generally budget an hour, but usually finish in half that time using a cap full of Murphy's Oil Soap in a couple gallons of hot water. Hoppes Number 9, though an excellent product, is NOT a black powder solvent. There are several commercial products out there for cleaning black powder guns. They get used at the range, though I find that I don't normally need to clean my guns until I have done an EXTENDED shooting session. That seasoning your bore with some kind of non-petroleum animal/vegetable grease/oil works just fine, giving me more time at the range. I can clean the gun later. I generally clean it before I got to bed that night. Leaving it for a week, especially during a humid Wisconsin summer is asking for trouble.

Always found 83 grains of powder for .490 round ball was very accurate. If a hunting round of 350 to 400 grain bullet was used, 100 grains of powder worked best. Used to love shooting black powder.
