One thing that gets overlooked about Hawkeye in the MCU is his humour. I would argue he has some of the best comedic scenes at of all characters. And, even though I don't want to be that guy, this is ultimately why I find the MCU infinitely more interesting than the DC film universe. Marvel has always been about god like figures that are ultimately human and DC being the inverse of that, human characters who are more like gods which gives the discussion a real "two sides of the same coin" sort of feel. It's just a shame that DC and Warner Brothers haven't been able to fully hit the nail on the head of their overall premise for the DC film universe. Beyond that though, Marvel takes it's time with its characters instead of trying to force stuff to happen before its time, like DC with the Justice League film. However, seeing films like Wonder Woman and Aquaman do as well as they did, I'm hopeful for what we might get out of DC in the future. Seeing broken, damaged people use incredible powers and skills for the good of others is a cornerstone of the superhero genre. It doesn't have to be that way of course, but I think, even if only academically, this is what the genre will be remembered for once it comes and goes. I don't think of Marvel as the height of cinema, far from it, but it's certainly the height of its genre and that's saying something.

@@Valiant_Requiem so not to be that other guy, but the premise of normal people being driven to extreme ends for one goal that they are willing to and basically have risked everything for that goals pretty cool. And their moral compass is always an Alfred or John Diggle or Steve Rodgersand those exchanges are heart wrenching or up lifting. Ps. Have you seen shows like arrow, they nail the moral consequences of a small man army fighting corruption what it can do to you and those around you and how someone can come back from unspeakable evil and trauma.

Hawkeye has super aim. Anything can be made lame. Super strength? Oh, so she can lift more than others? Wwwwoooooowww. It's all how they are utilized. Natasha has no powers at all but she is revered as cool. Jeremy Renner needed more screen time. Age of Ultron tried to do all it could in one movie. The "man amongst gods and monsters" perspective could have been fantastic.

Unfortunatly, the Avengers only got 4.5 movies. (I count Civil War as half, since it doesn't have all of them). Considering the ensemble of characters (and the popularity of Cap and Tony), Clint just doesn't have enough time to be in the spotlight too much, but I think that his role on the team is still vital and important.

In Age of Ultron , during the ship scene .Wanda took down all the Avengers - Cap ,Thor ,Widow .But when it came to Hawkeye becuz if his quick movement he instantly removed a electric arrow and zapped Wanda brain and with another Arrow with one shot he created a wave and took the remaining men on the ship .By far that is most underrated scene of Hawkeye as well as his arrows in movies .Yes in movies he just got explosive arrows compare to comics where he uses much mire than that

Great analysis. The problem for me with movie Hawkeye (even though he's well done in his limited bubble) is that they basically took nearly everything about his comic book character that made him unique and easily latched onto by fans and dispersed it among the other Avengers. Comic book Hawkeye originally was the anti-establishment snark machine who constantly questioned Cap's decisions, but in the movies, we've got Tony for that. It's the reason why the prison scene in Civil War is the scene that always felt the most "vintage" Hawkeye to me out of any scene he's ever gotten in these movies. It's because Clint is the voice of dissent against authority, whereas in virtually every other movie he's strictly on the side of authority. Even as Ronin, he's not rebelling against anything... he's just exerting authority in a harsher and more personal way.

Love how Tony mentioned in Age of Ultron "maybe I'll take a page out of Barton's book" when it came to settling down on a homestead somewhere and starting a family. Flash forward to Endgame and Tony has accomplished just that. After seeing the life he could potentially have through Clint's. And come that same time in Endgame Clint loses that life he worked so hard to protect. Love the pathos of that character. Seeing his relationship evolve with Kate will be fun as well.

I like the context of Clint inviting the Avengers to his home. He's a trained spy/assassin apart of a larger spy community and the only ones who knew about his family were Nat and Fury. In a field where info is life and death, he opened up to the Avengers. Also, Nat didn't reveal this info either, letting him make the decision for himself. Age of Ultron is one of my faves. Another thing, when we see Klaue and the lights go out in an run down boat, it isn't till Black Panther that we see we they freaked out.

Comic Hawkeye has way more character and if we take the idea that he provides a stage and identity, Comic Hawkeye esp from the "My Life as a Weapon" series would have been able to set a way more precise stage with more wit and a certain lightheartedness

Yeah, that's a good point, but if they went with 616 Hawkeye then the whole family man identity that serves as a stage for others wouldn't be present, so it's a really weird trade off. Therefore, I've always looked at MCU Clint as an adaptation of Hawkeye from the Ultimates, but hey that's how I interpreted it anyways! :)

I was 10ish when Avengers 1 first came out. I never understood why, but Hawkeye was always my favorite avenger and I was obsessed with him. Everyone else thought it was really silly and stupid to have the 'average' guy as my favorite, but I think it was exactly that. I’m crying a little. Hawkeye is my favorite MCU character and he became so the instant he showed up in Thor. Those few lines of his cemented him as my viewpoint into the MCU-verse, and The Avengers, with that combination of his badassery and the exposure of his vulnerabilities, wow. Honestly Hawkeye is probably my second favorite in the MCU. WHY? Because he does the impossible. Thor is a god, Tony a super genius with incredible armor, Bruce becomes a nearly unstoppable Force... I've always found it interesting that the one thing that never happened in the comics becomes the main structure for Clint in the movies. I love his character in many ways that the MCU never showed, but don't get it wrong, I am happy that I even got to see him in action- as few and far between it ended up being, that is. I just wish they could have given him more meaning without having to make something entirely up for the big screen. Simply put, Hawkeye was never meant to have a family. It shocked many of us, even those who never knew his character arc, when he suddenly had a family on a farm hidden away. It was sweet, yes, and it gave us something to see that comic Hawkeye could never achieve. Which is complete normality and freedom enough to even have a family. That becomes less unrealistically impossible when considering how little the movies actually had him play a role. Making it just that easier for the screenwriters to decide that course of action. It's those simple differences, as described in this video, that end up becoming Hawkeye's main points: support, encouragement, reminder, and hope. I've come to love and hate it, but that's mainly due to being a comic fan. As I've said, I am happy that I got to see his character in such a massive movie series, but I can't help but wish that somethings could've played out a little differently at times. As for the HAWKEYE tv series coming in a year or so, I've heard it'll follow one of the most beloved comic arcs with Kate Bishop. So here's to hoping that the show will offer Clint Barton a little more depth as he trains the new Hawkeye.

You do know that Hawkeye, SHIELD agent, has a family in the comics, right? MCU is based more on Ultimates!Hawkeye than 616!Hawkeye. He even goes rogue, though not under the name Ronin, in Ults after tragedy befalls them. Like, it's literally straight out of the comics in some very direct ways. You could have had 616!Hawkeye, but not as a SHIELD agent. That's the one thing he can't be, at least not for long, in the 616 continuity given his anti-authority leanings.

Hawkeye has long been my favourite Avenger. I think it was Stan himself who said the Fantastic Four are a family, the X-Men a school, and the Avengers a football team. In this analogy, I see Hawkeye as an offensive lineman, contributing to the team's overall success without the individual flash of the receivers, running backs and QB. And that gels nicely with what he does throughout the movies - be it bigging up the others so they can achieve, or taking the hit to free others to score. I guess that makes it obvious why I like him so much...

The artists formerly known as Lil dookie shoes I’m afraid that’d be way to easy, the issue with Hawkeye vs anyone who isn’t invincible, is he’s a super spy who most likely won’t be seen, plus he has perfect aim so it’ll only take one shot to kill whoever he’s after.
