3 Bumper Fetch Drill

One of the most important phases of Fundamental Training/yardwork is the Single T. It begins w fetch to a pile. Approximately 60% of dogs who start Single T aren't ready to fetch w a collar "nick" one bumper 5' correctly. So this drill shows if a dog will focus where you want him to at a rudimentary level. And it is what Bill uses to determine if a dog is ready for Single T.

Great video. Can you explain why the nick on the way out to the bumper? I have my young golden who I have trained to fetch, hold, and work on marking, but everything has been done with praise, for doing the right thing. And he has lots of drive to get the bumper, because that's when he gets his praise, and the game keeps going....Haven't considered using a collar yet, because it just hasn't seemed necessary...

Is it better to fetch>nick. Or Fetch>continuous e-collar until bird is in mouth?

Bill doesn't train using continuous collar for anything. A "nick" with the collar is used to reinforce the command the dog is doing, never-never, again never continuous.
