Man, it is insane how hard you work and how authentic you make your costumes. You always look great and your sewing 101 series really helped me when I started (trying, sometimes successfully) dressing up for conventions. Just wanted to say that this version of hawkgirl was put into a documentary called, "She Makes Comics" that is on Netflix at 18:32. Definitely surprised me seeing your smiling face, but thought I'd want to know. Thanks for all of your tutorials, -Mel

On the tin snips...there are left, right, and center cutting styles. Looks like you have center cuts there which is good. You wouldn't want left cutters to cut a round hole from the right.
@unrealhunter0110 жыл бұрын
those would be tin snips, also known as aviation cutters (don't ask me why) designed for cutting steel plate up to 1,5 mm thick (depending on the specific metal and how strong you can clench it) it makes short work of plastics and cardboard.

The other similar product is shapelock granules, which are slightly better for shaping less planar elements like studs. I haven't tried the two together, though.
@gammarotor10 жыл бұрын
I don't know if anyone mentioned this about the tin snips but they come in three styles: Left cutting,right cutting and center (or straight) cutting. Red,yellow and green.I forget which color goes with which direction. The different styles allow for cutting curves in the respective direction with less distortion of the material.

That's a very nice way to cover the foam piece. Saves you a lot of worbla if the armor doesn't need to be very strong/stiff like KamuiCosplay does it. Because there you need two pieces of worbla instead of one. And you gotta add edging anyways :P Edging makes everything betaaahhh ;3

Great tutorial! And those special clippers are used for many different things- my jewelery instructor back in high school had us use them to cut bulky shapes from sheets of copper, nickel, silver, etc. But where to get them in a town that has like one Walmart for the next five hours in any direction...is a mystery to me lol

Good tutorial but whats the difference between this and wonderflex?
@cryofpaine10 жыл бұрын
I found this article that has some pretty good details on the differences between them. Looks like the difference is Worbla is more flexible, but Wonderflex is sturdier. Also, Worbla is more expensive. ohmycosplay.com/2013/11/03/craft-foam-vs-wonderflex-vs-worbla/
@shadowsong1234510 жыл бұрын
Thank you both for your input its very much appreciated :D
@TheGeekyGamerGirl10 жыл бұрын
I prefer worbla over wonderflex, just because it can stick to itself easily. Wonderflex doesn't do that. :)
@shadowsong1234510 жыл бұрын
Yea I think I'm going to use both i heard worbla could only stick to one side when i need both sides covered Once i get a job ill try both i guess its personal preference.
@TheFlauschig10 жыл бұрын
shadowsong12345 Worbla has two sides, a rough one and a smooth one. The smooth one gets really sticky quite easily, which is what you need, if you want to put it onto other things than worbla, like craftfoam for example. But worbla itself sticks to itself from both sides. If you heat up a piece of worbla and press it down to another piece of worbla, even the rough side will work. If done with enough heat and enough pressure, its as secure as a normal plate of worbla, which also means you can't pull both pieces away without doing a little damage. The best example for Worblas ability to stick to itself is, that you can knead worbla, when its hot. You can basically roll it up and make little sausages out of it, if you want to. Thats why keeping scratches is reasonable, because you can use it to make details for your armor and weapons out of it.

@kaitmerciless94849 жыл бұрын
In most worbla tutorials I've seen, people fold the sheet over, meaning you only get half of the actual sheet... Did you do that as well or did the foam allow you to skip that step or is it completely unnecessary?
@AxcelerationDesigns9 жыл бұрын
+Kait Merciless the foam makes that step unnecessary. such a waste of worbla that way :\
