The last line in Hawking's first verse is a double homage to Newton, as he was also the one who said: "If I have seen further than others, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants."

also another meaning is he is dropping mad apples which if you take sir issac newton (fig newton bars). so dropping mad bars from the shoulder of giants. If you want to take it there. Kinda a double there.

another fun fact: that quote is theorised to be a dig at hooke, who suffered from a curved spine, meaning that hooke could never be one of the "giants" from which isaac could base his work from. yeah, newton was a dick.

Loved your breakdown of this one Eddie! Hawking's TI-82 reference is a bigger diss than it just being a calculator. Texas Instruments came out with the TI-82 after some of their customers complained that their flagship calculator at the time, the TI-85 graphing calculator, was too complicated to use. So they came out with the TI-82 as a stripped down, simplified, user-friendly version of the TI-85 -- basically the TI-82 is a "dumbed-down" TI-85.

There’s a general misunderstanding of what a theory is in science. Theory can’t be “disproved”, but they can be updated based on the available evidence. What Hawking did was hypothesized what would come out of black holes, which was then disproven through peer review. Generally, we want hypothesis’ to fail, it helps to learn more about something in science Please correct me if I’m wrong

Hey Teacher Eddie, just wondering, shouldn't Hawkings Black Hole 'Theory' really be referred to as a hypothesis since it wasn't something that was accredited with peer reviews, and evidence. @@TeacherEddieHistory also Hawking radiation is not the thing that was wrong, thats something else. Hawking radiation is one of the methods how we detect where the event horizon of a black hole is. In space, where two gamma rays intersect you can have something called "spontaneous pair production", where the enery from the gamma rays is converted into mass (via e=mc^2) in the form of a particle and its corresponding anti-particle. If this happens too close to the event horizon, one of the two can get trapped by the black hole and it looks like the black hole is producing tbe other.

Hawking radiation is separate from his original theory on black hole information theories, which is where he deals with what happens at the event horizon. While that theory is a big stretch, theoretically speaking, his work on hawking radiation is still widely held as quite possible the only issue is that it is so hard to prove due to how small the energy signature of that radiation would be compared to the energy held in the accretion disk.
