Hi Greyman and Elric. New sub here. Pleased to have found yer channel as I am a massive Hawkwind and Vintage Horror comics fan. Both subjects are right up my alley! Bought the Hawkwind book Elric and love it. 👍 I've got a lot of catching up to do with your videos, but having a blast doing so

Awesome, thanks for subbing. My mate Elric does all the album rankings, I go through lots of comic books. I just went through my horror stuff recently. I have a playlist as well, of horror comics made into videos that might interest you. We also do a beer show haha

Nice to hear your thoughts, and a good plan to take the decades separately & give each era its full focus - the 80s are, as you say, so often overlooked. Personally, I prefer the live recordings of that era because of the production issues (the "Coded Languages" set blows "Choose Your Masques" out of the park). I know what you mean about the sound of "Xenon Codex" but Huwie's guitar shines throughout. I think it's "Silver Machine" that weighs heavy against "Masques" - and I think the old timers like myself are always going to be comparing any version of "Sonic Attack" with "Space Ritual." As for "Black Sword" - I think it's suffered in retrospect by being followed by the live album, with those solid gold additional classics from Huwie in there: it's the album that DOESN'T have "Moonglum" or "Dragons and Fables" on it. "Needle Gun"? Catchy as hell, but the lyrics are pretty poor and just wouldn't have connected with anyone outside those in the know, so it was never going to do as well as it would have with better lyrics. I agree with you on "Zarozinia" - lump in the throat stuff, though my memories from the original tour are largely of knobheads heckling Kris and shouting "Brainstorm!"

Thanks Daunrussell for your lengthy comment glad you liked the Video. I agree I like the live recordings too. I will be doing a Live album ranking at some point

I like Needlegun but it Seems to be a marmite track. I think apart from Silver Machine, it's the highest profile Hawkwind release. I remember being 17 and it was played in lots of clubs in Manchester. One of those tracks with an across the tribes appeal. During the Paladium orchestra gig, Zarozinia was a real high point, very moving.

Chronicle Of The Black Sword has cool content but the sampled drums are not Hawkwind! Live Chronicles is much much better.

I like the songs off of the studio album but I feel like the songs they included on the live version make it a much better album overall.
@antonhaq35033 жыл бұрын
@@Navili502 The problem with the studio album is Dave Brock fell for that ZZ Top Eliminator drum sound and copied it meaning the drums were programmed. Poor Danny Thompson only got to play on the live album and the difference is immediate and big. It's so much more enjoyable.

it's a pity awful 80's programmed drums blight chronicle and xenon codex , there great albums apart from the production

Twas the 80s I guess, drum machines were the thing. Masques has it too. The sound doesn't bother me too much but I do prefer real drums
