Huw was magnificent. Such taste. I remember buying a guitar magazine probably 20 years ago which had an article on Huw, and they basically said how he was such an under-recognised talent in the guitar world. His guitar solo on the Live Chronicles version of Masters of the Universe is just superb. Passionate, powerful, tasteful and much more interesting than your classic blues rock soloist. I have listened to it hundreds of times and it still excites me.

I First saw Hawkwind on this tour at the UEA Norwich In spring 1988 , the xenon codex tour , this gig was recorded at the Hammersmith odeon a few weeks later and first aired on the BBC in concert series in early summer 1988. I had a cassette recording of it, but lost it. In 2008 Chis Hawkins was hosting a series on BBC 6 music - called classic concert , I emailed Chris to see if they still had it , they did and he aired it on Sunday 14th September at 2am in the morning, it was available to listen to for the following week. This has to be one of my favourite live sets with Huw Lloyd Langton absolutely on fire on lead guitar. This is a recording of that 6Music show, thanks for posting... This week I have seen them play the Royal Albert Hall on their 50th anniversary tour. Thanks Hawkwind , constant music for over 30 years ... onwards.

some of Huw's best recorded stuff here - Wastelands of Sleep, Moonglum, Rocky Paths. he was really going for it on this tour, despite Harvey's chicken samples. I seem to remember the original BBC broadcast featured Dave reading out a list of free festivals and encouraging everyone to go to Stonehenge that year. That bit seems to have disappeared from the CD issue. Wonder why!

I think the inclusion of the free festivals banter caused Brainstorm to have a minute or two sliced off of it in order to fit it into the BBC's 1 Hour slot. When it was later repeated on BBC 7 about 20 years later they removed Dave's chat and added back the missing bit of Brainstorm. Sounds reasonable to me. I'd rather have a more complete song than a couple of minutes of 20 year old gig dates.

I own this recording on cassette and remember it being performed on Radio 2. I believe Johnny Walker presented it at the time. I was going to my own engagement party that night so thankfully asked a friends dad to record it for me. This was in my humble opinion one of Hawkwind's best lineups and concerts with exceptional Bass playing, energetic and brilliant drumming, great singing, blistering guitar work and great versions of amazing Hawkwind tracks. They were truly a complete and professional sounding band. The late great HLL was a fine guitar player and so underrated and when he passed away Hawkwind lacked class and became weak. He had a very unique style and sound to his playing, with soul and feeling and always made the hairs on the back of my neck stand to attention. I had the pleasure of seeing them twice in the late eighties and on both occasions they were outstanding. Really pleased to see this recording on KZbin, but it's a shame there was never an official album release, as it would fly off the shelves. Is there a way that I could record this concert onto a CD and if so could anyone tell me how?
@steverees19364 жыл бұрын

Mmm...Probably the same reason why "Warrior" took so long to be released, and the Hawkestra will never be released - the BBC own the rights to the recording, but members and ex-members have to be paid royalties, and the publishers of the songs as well (Brainstorm, Moonglum, Heads etc are probably owned by different record companies). The BBC could release it as they own the rights to the recording, but would have to pay royalties etc. Whereas if Brock wanted to release it, he'd have to first buy the rights to the recording from the BBC, and then pay royalties etc. That's not including the studio time remixing etc. You certainly would get your money back in sales, but someone's got to fork out the initial outlay. So it's not that somebody is a cunt.
