I met Dave Brock and Harvey Bainbridge on the live 79' tour at Bradford whilst watching the support band. It made my night - it was my 2nd time I'd seen them and I was only 14. Now 42 years I still love them. Long live the Hawks!

The 1st time I ever heard this band was the 1st time I smoked pot at 14 in 1972 & In Search Of Space was put on at a massive volume on a dynamic system. The thought came to mind "This is the music I've always wanted to hear but never have". I've been travelling with Hawkwind in all it's incarnations ever since. No matter what's on the turntable if the trip starts hitting it has to be changed to 'Space Ritual"'!~

I've been listening to hawkwind since I was 18 and now I'm 55 and I've been lucky enough to have seen about 8 times and they are the most underrated band around!!! the first time I heard them was when I was at a friend's house and we had taken LSD and he put on levitation and I swear that I was floating up on the ceiling!!! they have taken me on so many journeys!! it's a shame that time waits for no one and they have lost many members!! they are remembered for ever...rip Lemmy...rip Nik turner....rip Huw Lloyd Langton and rip all the others I haven't mentioned... long live Dave Brock who is still at the helm of the space ship hawkwind!!! I will follow them until I shake off this mortal coil!!! for me the best band ever!!!👏👏👏🙏🙏👌💪👍👽👽👽👽🤪❤️❤️❤️❤️🇬🇧

Amazing performance, especially of Arrival In Utopia. Brock is a genius as always, with a golden voice from outer space, but what really makes this show special is the presence and contribution of the mighty Harvey Bainbridge. He adds so much more than his magnificent keyboards: backing vocals, atmospheric spoken word, just great. I wish this was properly released. Oh, and Simon House, his ingredient takes this to another dimension, just stellar! Onward flies the bird... Thankyou. Time to take another spin around Earth...

Love how Dave cut Bainbridge off immediately and said that the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane 'never influenced us whatsoever' and spoke about krautrock instead. He's telling the truth - I met Dave Brock in 1981 and even then he urged me to listen to Neu!
@Spirit-Of-The-Age Жыл бұрын
I think the bottom line is ...every individual that took part in Hawkwind over the years , all had their own favourites and major influences. So yes , early Hawkwind (pre Bainbridge years of 77 onwards) were influenced by the likes of Neu and Can from Germany and themselves would have helped influence the Krautrock scene too. Then you had the likes of Robert Calvert who joined as a poet but turned into their most amazing song writer of all. Then Lemmy who went onto form Motorhead. And from the start too, Nik Turner had his own styles. These are just a few examples of how diverse Hawkwind was and is. Hawkwind and all the offshoot bands that casme from them have put out an amazingly diverse and inluencial amount of music and powerful lyrics.

Thank you, very interesting, good quality recording... I didn't know that one Steven Taylor had been part of the line-up on bass, ... It's before Davey came back ... but there's still Jerry Richards, and Simon House, whose input has always been precious in Hawkwind... They should have done some studio recordings with him at that time.. instead the releases were fairly poor, like In Your Area (one of the worst, mish-mashed albums they ever made). Harvey Bainbridge was back and is quite heavily featured... it wasn't going to last for long, alas.

+Valhalla Cold Wind You haven't got a clue. Mr Dibs is an engaging, multi-talented frontman and a great asset to the band. Hawkwind are on fire at the minute and Dibs is leading from the front. Get real.
@valhallacoldwind33629 жыл бұрын
+mattthetoadlicker I know what classic Hawkwind is & it ain't the lineup with this Dibs guy. It happens, many of the once great bands have lesser known & not particularly suited, fill in musicians in their current lineups! Watered down versions, yes i would definitely put it like that! Still respect the Captain though, for all he has done for the Wind. Also Chadwick & Blake. Some remnants of the past lineups, keeps it viable I suppose! Like anything, it will end one day!
@mattthetoadlicker9 жыл бұрын
Valhalla Cold Wind We'll have to agree to disagree, then. I have seen Hawkwind 3 times in the last 9 months and they were as good as ever with Dibs performing excellently throughout. He's a great asset and a lovely guy, too. You're right though, the Ship will land and never take to space again, but that day is not today, thankfully. Onwards flies the bird...
@valhallacoldwind33629 жыл бұрын
+mattthetoadlicker I know I shouldn't be comparing lineups, it is not a good way to justify liking or disliking of something. You are talking from a more realistic perspective than me, as you are attending concerts. Out here in Oz, that opportunity doesn't happen often. This Australian tour in 2000 was an exception though. Other wise all I have to go on is live clips online. Not the best way to enjoy a Hawkwind (or any other artists) experience! Cheers.
