Have you tried the embody?(edit: further watching answered this) The best I ever tried-- go to the Herman Miller showroom in midtown and try it, takes no effort to try. Have yet to purchase but your video here was extremely useful-- people who review chairs are generally enthusiastic because their job is entangled in positive reviews. So glad to find an actual human being who cares about just telling the truth. But yeah I think Embody is a must try if you haven't yet, it blew me away at 6'1 200lb. Do not be afraid of the 'bottlenecking' top, I think a lot of people judge it that way, and the only other critique I hear is a squeak which can be easily fixed I hear with lubricant. Still yet to try Leap 2, but that's the only other competition for me at the moment.

@@chrisw7347 So I have a Leap 2 being configured by Crandall Offices right now, so stay tuned! High hopes. Now the Embody, lemme just say this: I would love to sit in one, however, for 2100 with tax, unless you find a sale, which it is still above the cost of a fully loaded Aeron, you are looking at a chair made of plastic and noise. It creaks so loud it might as well just ruin any chance of voice over work you do. It is insanely loud from everything I have seen. Again have not tried it and would be interested, but again, if I LOVED IT, I still cannot validate that price. This is a chair. Not a bed. I dunno.. It's a really hard sell for me, especially since it was 800$ 2-3 years ago. That is just a kick in the teeth from Herman Miller in my opinion and you see I love them with my Aeron. Again it looks interesting, but unless it is gonna make me coffee and shut the hell up when needed, it's so hard to recommend. Imagine paying 2 grand then another 250$ for the headrest too? Jesus. You shouldn't even be sitting as much as you would need to to get value from that buy. Anyway, thank you again for the kind words and hope to bring ya some more reviews of chairs from someone who just wants the right one. (even if it eventually means caving in for an embody... *threw up a little*) Ya know what it reminds me of? Purple Beds. The niche bed that either you love or hate or force yourself to love because you loath how much ya just spent.

@@TristanPope Just a heads up - I purchased a refurbished Leap V2 from Crandall in 2020 (with the extra thick seat foam) and I still had issues with the seat bottoming out. When I first sat in it, it felt fine. Then after several of hours I started to feel the frame of the chair against my tailbone. At first, it took a significant amount of time to get to that point, but the more frequently I used the chair, the less time it took for the seat to bottom out. Almost like consistent pressure on the seat pad caused the foam to "deflate" and I needed to take a break from the chair to give it time to "re-inflate" I think the foam that Crandall uses in their remanufacturing process isn't as high quality or dense as Steelcase's original foam. Plus, according to BTOD's video on the subject, the more concave shape of the Leap's seat pad might introduce undue pressure points on the seat for people with certain body types. This will be the case irrespective of foam type used. For reference, I'm 5'11" 220 lbs. with a higher than average amount of density in the tailbone region so it doesn't take much for me to bottom out thinner seat pads

@@TristanPope I think right now, unless you just have money to throw around, you’re much better off just buying these chairs used/refurbished. You can usually find Embody chairs around the $750/800 mark (which is still a lot), and unless you are doing very un-chairlike activities, you probably wont ever need the 10 year warranty. I still feel like the Embody around $800-ish mark is the only chair I ever bought and felt completely satisfied with that purchase. Facts, all these chair companies jacked up their prices, in some cases triple the inflation rate. As to the arm jiggling, the Steelcase arms jiggle too, I would image getting the arms not to jiggle would increase the cost. I'd agree on the pricing, all these chairs have become crazy expensive. I paid 1200$ CAD after tax for my fern 4 years ago and for the quality and warranty support i think that was worth it compared to all the other chairs i've tried. Originally had an aeron, for a few days because holy back pain from that horrendous lumbar support. Fern has been overall pretty great. I'd agree about the play in the arms, mine is nowhere near as bad, but it's something I remarked on when I did a review on haworth's site. The rest of your issues are pretty subjective. Seat pan depth has been fine for me personally, i'm 5' 8" so maybe that's why? Locking mechanism works fine for me, seems to be for you as well given your demonstration, but hey sometimes things fail, that's why there is a warranty. Lumbar support being in the wrong place or too aggressive will of course be based on body type, this was my problem with the aeron, and that seems the most popular chair ever. Can't say I have the same experience with the knit, it's been really comfy to me. Tried the embody as well and holy fuck is that thing uncomfortable, felt like a wood board on my spine the entire time. The lean seems to be more of a posture issue honestly, the seat is symmetrical so not sure how you can blame that. Obviously chairs are subjective and relying 100% on someone's review is not the way to go, you need to try these things out, whether that's in store or buying and returning.

Great review and I mostly agree with you. You are correct when you state that other reviewers are not mentioning some of the negatives. I bought a used Fern for $500 and I agree that the thin cushion and the sliding seat adjustment are poor quality. When you slide the seat forward, you end up with your tailbone falling into the crevasse created between the cushion and the back of the chair. Why they designed it this way makes no sense. The seat needs to be longer so you do not have to slide it out so far. And the seat is too thin. A little more cushion would help tremendously. Where we disagree: I have the additional lumbar support and I do enjoy the feel of that. I also find the arm rests to be comfortable and not as shaky as you demonstrated. When I plant my elbows down to work, the arm rests feel good and do not move around. I do love how adjustable they are. Ways I am going to make this chair work for me better: 1) I’m going to buy a thin seat cushion to just throw on top; and 2) I ordered an Atlas Head Rest which they sell customized to fit the Fern. I think those two additions, plus the fact I did not pay full price for the Fern will allow me to fully enjoy this chair. ❤

Agreed. These chairs aren't worth the asking price. I ordered a Steelcase Leap V2 direct from Steelcase's website during the recent sale. It was still over $1,000 after tax and when it arrived, the backstop mechanism was broken. I contacted Steelcase about doing an exchange, but they said they would have support look into it and likely just send a new part. For the asking price, I didn't want a new part. I wanted a brand new chair that works correctly out of the box. They also noted it could take a week for support to get back to me with a conclusion, which would have put me outside of the return window. Finally, it came disassembled, which I thought was lame since my Haworth Zody that cost half as much arrived assembled. It also wasn't packed well and that's likely how it ended up being damaged when it arrived. So, I ended up just doing a self service return and going back to my Zody. In my opinion, even without the backstop issue, the Leap V2 is not worth the price they are asking direct from Steelcase. Felt cheap, lots of creaks and pops moving around in it and it just didn't feel like a chair in the four figure price range. The much cheaper (at the time I bought it) Zody is much more solid in terms of construction and seat comfort. I just don't love the lumbar on the Zody, but to save $1K, I can live with it.

I bought this chair a year ago and I've noticed many things like you did: - the top of the backrest rounds forward and because of my height it causes me to slouch which contradicts the point of this chair - my legs are too long for the seat so it feels awkward to sit on and I barely get thigh support - the arms aren't actually at the same height, one is slightly taller than the other which causes issues with my desk - in the uk you don't get the lumbar support so my bum takes most of the back support because of the weird shape At this point I might go for a cheaper option that has a softer cushion and adjustable lumbar, the slouch task one looks interesting
@TristanPope6 ай бұрын
Wow you nailed some stuff I forgot to mention as well, the arm rests being off balance really did me in, they never felt like they were properly clicking on both sides to be the right height with each other always one higher than the other!!! I felt that same pushing me forward thing as you can see in the video. I thought it was perhaps the Lumbar. Why don't they offer Lumbar in the UK? Prolly cause it is all bs and we don't actually "need it" lol but the UK bans shit that is erroneous haha. And the seat really did feel small sides and front! Did you keep it or did ya get another chair? Also which one did you get and what is your height/weight. That helps people to know what it may feel like for them!

Hey my friend, I’m no fanboy just sharing my honest opinion. I went down the chair rabbit hole during Covid and bought and sold lots of used chairs. Because I couldn’t stomach spending so much on a chair, with that being said I tried many different chairs. So here my opinion. In terms of build quality Haworth is not up there with Steelcase and Herman Miller. I’ve tried Embody, Aeron, Amia, Gesture, Leap and many others. But for whatever reason I’ve settled on the fern. It just works for me. Now mine has only the Lumbar option and 4d arms. Nothing more. I’m 5’11 and 280lbs. After seeing reviews online and on KZbin I really believe that chairs are hit or miss. Once again the build quality is not up there with Herman Miller and Steelcase but my chair has been solid, no issues. Btw I paid $300 for mine used on Facebook marketplace…. Fyi I sit anywhere from 1 hour to 8 hours sometimes. I wonder if my chair is more solid because it’s basic or if the manufacturing took a hit. But the chair works for me. Mine doesn’t even have the locking mechanism to keep upright. The tension does the job. Anyways just sharing my experience

Extremely helpful! I am so glad you got a chair that works for you! Specially since you are not a common height / weight. Also for 300$ THAT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY! Great find I hope it lastys you a good long time. And yeah as for quality, the Herman Millers and Steelcase's are much higher. But 300$!!!! Get it!!

Hey there! I did not do a review of the Embody. For 2000$ I expect it to cool, warm, and hug me when I feel down. It will likely never be on this channel unless they send me one. But even if it is god's gift of chairs, I cannot approve of that price. This chair used to be 800$!!! 800$ They improved nothing but raised it to 2000$ I respect that company, they have done me well for the last 20 years, but that is highway robbery. But if I get one, trust me the review will be here., Thanks for watching!

Everything about this chair seems like it was better designed for shorter people. 1. The backrest's default lower back curvature is quite low. The lumbar support attachment is uncomfortably hard and seems like an afterthought 2. The armrests can be set lower which greatly minimizes the wiggle compared to having them fully or near fully extended 3. The backrest while is taller than most other chairs is too short for taller people to rest their heads on 4. Lighter people bottom out the seat cushion less 5. Shorter people can keep the seat panned closer to the backrest meaning there is no awkward empty gap without proper lumbar support 6. Because shorter people can keep the seat panned closer to the backrest, the seat naturally shifts its center of gravity inward

I wouldn’t ever order it just for fun. Kinda lame for the company regardless. Now looking at the sale prices, that makes this chair a lot easier to digest. @sasso3844Ай бұрын
yep, I always said it and I'm at a point where I ahve to roll my eyes when I see people glazing the fern. I probably tried 10 of all these expensive ergo chairs you can think of, almost all from steelcase, hm, a couple other brands and haworths fern. Haworths fern was the cheapest feeling and most uncomfortable one. The arms are extremly cheap feeling, so flimsy, thin and hard. The seat feels tiny (many companies make them too small, but it's even worse on the fern with the edge and the gap when you pull out the seat. I'm only 5'9 and almost all felt too small in that regard. I also do like to sit on a leg sometimes. I just want a chair seat to feel more spacious to feel comfy) Steelcase chairs, like the gesture had similar issues and quality issues like the fabric of the back on the gesture and leap v2 are just glued on with a thin spray and they already, slightly detached from the padding underneath within the first week I had them, then the hard and flimsy armpads as well, maybe not AS bad as the fern but still, my 300 dollar ergo chair has better quality and still felt better after 10 years, no squeak anywhere, no flimsiness on the arms, nothing, no cut off leg circulation on the thighs. The best out of the many I tried, all the ones over 1-1,5k, were the Aeron Remastered C (even for my height, their height charts are only made for people sitting straight in one position without ever moving and then taking breaks, plus the bigger size overall made it possible to dodge the frame the best, not completely which was ultimately, sadly, still reason enough not to pay that much for the chair. They could do better if they wanted to. they're just riding that old wave) The embody sadly also gave me numb thighs from just the hammock design of the seat, not from an incorrect seat depth or height of the chair. I tried everything, even inserting a really soft foam, still made my thighs and butt go numb. And then there is the worst part about the embody.. the lumbar. rock hard no option to set it up and it hits right on this spot as you described 9:13 I never in my entire life had pain anywhere from long long hours of sitting on my pc chairs. I experienced pain for the first time ever, with those expensive chairs. People wanna tell you "you have to adjust to it" but that's a cope, no matter how bad your posture is a really good chair should fix that, correct it without any of those problems for weeks and months. Wrong pelvis posture or coccyx pain? A lumbar should correct it with padding, in a subtle way, without pain right from day 1, over time. otherwise something is wrong and you guarantee yourself to adapt to something that's bad. they are all really a scam. Vote with your money, don't just keep them and force it. The price need to go down, the comfiness needs improvement and the overall quality need to get better especially if they wanna call these high priced chairs to be the highest "premium" class. cut the warranty by half and give me a much much higher quality where I'm confident I don't need 10 years of warranty, It will just last.

You are absolutely right when it comes to dialing in your own chair. I will say the lumbar support in the back is erroneous when the back of the chair has a design that is already curved in a poor position with a limited amount of space to move the bubble in the back sadly. I have lumbar on my Aeron as well and dialing it in is quite easy compared to what they designed. It’s a shame.

The (plastic) Fern build quality is severely lacking. The damn plastic Ferns squeak just rolling them around with no one even sitting in the chair. And I'm talking about 2021 Ferns that have barely been used. The plastic Fern honestly feels like something someone built in their garage. *Specifically*, a garage with a pothole n' mud driveway that practically necessitates a 4x4 with a transfer case, 20 cases worth of warm Bud Light, a "we don't call the cops, we shoot" sign nailed crooked on the door, a tetanus-laden '69 El Camino in the yard, a '04 Ford F-350 7.3L Powerstroke that violates the EPA rulebook more than Diddy violated his party goers, vintage Playboy magazines scattered on the bench next to some Ni-Cad DeWalt tools and over 1000 bottles of Astroglide, empty shotgun shells littering the ground, AR-15s adorning the back wall, 2 Rottweilers chained to a post that have probably committed 1st degree murder (and of course, the obligatory Trump/Vance 2024 yard sign). *That* type of garage; *that* type of build quality. The Fern recommendation comes almost universally from people who no actual Fern experience but have watched enough KZbin Fern propaganda to make Kim Jon Un proud. I've had Fern's for sale in the past and every single person who came to try out a plastic Fern ended up having their hopes and dreams shattered and buying a different chair rather than the Fern they originally wanted so badly. There's nothing solid about a plastic Fern. I've taken them apart, and they are so convoluted versus any other premium brand. The seat is attached to the mechanism with two pieces of plastic and 2 small screws, for one. The seat carrier SHATTERED when I tried to reupholster the Fern by stapling on new upholstery. I've NEVER shattered any seat carrier before, I was SHOCKED to see how flimsy the underside of the seat was. I've fired staples from an overpowered construction-type stapler into 100s of chairs before and the Fern is the only chair, to date, to ever have shattered. On the other hand, I can put more staples than what went into Jesus into a Steelcase or Herman Miller seat carrier and it will never shatter. All the controls on the Fern are cable actuated, just a complete convoluted mess of cables underneath the seat, no direct, metal-gear-to-metal-gear connections like you'd find on most Herman Miller or Steelcase chairs. I wouldn't want to be yanking on the Fern's controls too much, who knows what might happen. As a matter of fact, I was removing a Haworth Zody seat today to re-upholster and the damn seat depth lever fell out for some reason. I was fortunately able to get it back in. And don't even get me started on the PLASTIC tabs holding in the Zody seat, you have to smack them out, which deforms them, and then snap them back in place after just having deformed them. Nice design there.
