Thank you for the tribute !!! Bill Bruce, Hawthorne Muchachos 1968-1972. Did you know that the Muchacho's were the first corps to compete in DCI prelims back in 1972, and were the first corps to make the finals as well. Want another first? The Muchachos were the corps that changed the way drills were perceived by coming back on the field after going off the field in the exit as it has always been done. (By the way, playing the lead straight drum I also played the first beat heard in the first DCI championship).

Living in NJ during 1970's gave me many times a year to see the muchachos, 27th, bridgemen all in competition, all missed today!

I remember seeing them at a Connecticut show sometime in the late 60’s. Man the members were so young at the time! Good times.👍

Grew up listening to Hawthorne's '74 DCI Finals show on vinyl! What a youth I had being brought-up in Drum Corps and having loved the Muchachos from the West Coast!

1974 was my introduction to Jr. Drum Corps at Cornell. I heard the "Call of the Bulls" and the stadium when crazy - what followed was a show and an experience that has stayed with me my entire life.

1976 was the year I joined The Muchachos! How awesome was that!?!? So sad how everything starting to fall apart during the Season & became their final year :-(

Amazing drum corps filled with amazing people! I marched in the Muchachos in 1976, as well, Coupy...their final year was 1977, by the way. 1976 was a very difficult year for the corps...we lost one of our brothers in a car accident, but we were hanging tough. The corps was very good, but we had major tempo problems during the "stereo" section of our opener at prelims in Philly, due to the echo created by the high walls at the stadium. Our placement should have been much higher. JJ

Yipes! I remember the tempo problems & stereo effect off the walls. The horn line fell apart & felt like we died a sudden death,! Then the bus with our uniforms & some equipment broke down enroute to the show, so we performed in t-shirts & shorts. The crowd wasn't thrilled with us that day!

The Muchacos had their father corps Hawthorne Cabs as their Metor and the ones they looked up to. How can it get better than this? Just say the name Hawthorne and you envoike the Extreme in Drum Corps. Senior or Junior. A force to be reckoned with. thank you Hawthorne Cabs Muchachos.

Terrific except the director of the Corp in 1977 was Bob Beatty who was a cop in Hawthorne and part of the Caballeros color guard. He took over after the political infighting when Mac came back.
