8:32 The neigh of the horse, symbolic of the Dharma voice and wrathful discerning wisdom…

16:26 How to do a Daily Tea Offering to Hayagriva for auspiciousness and merit.
18:01 The Manifestation of the Superb Victorious Wrathful Great Horse Tantra: Benefits to the Empowered practitioner of Hayagriva.
NOTE: For those who asked, Rudra, as quoted from the tantra text is not the Hindu God but is the use of the word in the Tantra (which means, per the Sanskrit dictionary: crying, howling, roaring, dreadful, terrific, terrible, horrible) -- it is a word description here, not the name of the god. Rudra, the god, is named with this word because of the same association with "roarer or howler" - i.e. the word meaning. (All of these tantras are translated texts. In other words, the tantra is describing the antagonist (representing Ego) as a "Dreadful" black demon (the literal definition of Rudra Black Demon.
MANTRA of HAYAGRIVA
Venerable Zasep Rinpoche advises that even without empowerment we may chant the mantra but any visualization (without empowerment) would be in front of us, not self-generated (only empowered individuals can self-generate.) The main mantra is, as published on the Kurukulla Centre for Tibetan studies is
“OM HRIH VAJRA KRODHA HAYAGRIVA HULU HULU HUM PHAT”
in Tibetan pronunciation this can sound like:
Om Hri Benza Todha Hayagiva Hulu Hulu Hum Pey
There is also a longer version of the mantra, especially important in Hayagriva Sangdrub practice:
OM HRIH PADMAN TATRO VAJRA KRODHA HAYAGRIVA HULU HULU HUM PHAT.

Take Amitabha's primal vow, the eighteenth vow over the next couple of days: entrust to Amitabha, say his name perhaps even ten times and wish to be reborn in Sukhavati, Amitabha's pure Land. Once you do that take the immediate vow to save your father with the utmost priority once you become a Buddha Sughata Tathagata. You will become a Buddha Sughata Tathagata at the end of this current rebirth, of this be certain. Amitabha will take care of your father if you ask him, one way or the other and he will be taken care of until you become a Buddha Sughata Tathagata at the end of this life. This was bestowed and confirmed by Shakyamuni Buddhaya upon the large sutra of infinite life. Please proceed as soon as possible to take the primal vow of Amitabha, time is of the essence. Namo Amida Butsu 🙏🏼⭕

Traditionally, you should make a formal request. I can pass on the request for you, but ideally, go to gadenforthewest.org/contact/ and request it politely and with respect. (By tradition, sometimes you have to ask three times, depends on the teacher -- or three people have to ask, I'm not sure:-) There are different practices of Hayagriva. Venerable Zasep Rinpoche has offered Hayagriva Sang Drup (sometimes spelled Sandrub, or "Secret Accomplishment) -- which is the six armed solitary form with three horse heads featured in the video -- and Hayagriva Yabyum. Those two are Highest Yoga Tantra, so they require the "Four Initiations" which might be hard to do on Zoom (perhaps not impossible, I'm not sure) -- but there are forms of Hayagriva that are Kriya Tantra (requires only Vase Initiation), for example Hayagriva Vajrapani King Garuda - known as the three fierce ones. We'll speak a little more about different forms in part 2 of this documentary series, but there should be information in the main Hayagriva Feature on Buddha Weekly here: buddhaweekly.com/whats-special-hayagriva-wrathful-heruka-emanation-amitabha-horse-head-erupting-fiery-hair-literally-neighs-hrih-scream-wisdom/

I do Nyanfo every day for Amitabha Buddha. I sing Mahakaruna Dharani and Prajnaparamita Sutra to Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva. Are there others whom I should worship because I am a student? In what pure land is Padma Sambhava living at time? Is it Sukhavati ? Please solve these problems for me.

It is said that all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas emanate to all the purelands, so you could say he is in Sukhavati -- however he has his own Pureland is Zangdok Palri which translates as Copper Coloured Mountain.

So, from Amithaba we have Amitayus and Hayagriva emanations. Is there any other?
@BuddhaWeekly
@BuddhaWeekly Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. To your question, short answer - yes. Amitabha is the Buddha of Infinite Light. Wherever his light shines he emanates in countless Nirmanakaya (form), Sambhokagakaya (emanation) forms. He can manifest as Avalokiteshvara for those who need compassion, Kurukulle for those who need the power of the Enlightened wisdom, Padmasambhava -- countless others. There are countless suffering beings in Samsara, and Amitabha can manifest in any form to help. If we suffer from the poison of anger, Hayagriva. The entire Padma family - represented in the Wangdu field of merit for example (see here: buddhaweekly.com/magnetize-me-working-with-the-magnetizing-activity-deities-of-the-padma-buddha-family-amitabha-chenrezig-hayagriva-vajrayogini-vajradharma/ ) can all be thought of as emanations of Amitabha's vast compassion and magnetizing activities. To the Enlightened Mind, individual "emanations" are just fictional ego aspects - which we need to help us, since we do not see extistance as it truly is. This is all symbolized in the seed syllable Hri, which is the seed syllable of all the emanations of Amitabha. It's a big topic, though. Basically, countless forms, emanations, aspects... all to benefit sentient beings. Om Amitabha Hri. Om Ami Deva Hri. Om Mani Padme Hum Hri.

Good point. In translations of tantras - depending on the English translation - worldly deities (who are often very benevolent) are translated generically as demons, which literally means "supernatural being of light) from the Greek - but we probably should have replaced that easily misinterpreted word. This is from Britannica: "Greek word daimōn, which means a “supernatural being” or “spirit.” Though it has commonly been associated with an evil or malevolent spirit, the term originally meant a spiritual being that influenced a person's character." Thanks for watching and for commenting!

@BuddhaWeekly
@BuddhaWeekly Ай бұрын
This is from our written feature on Hayagriva on BuddhaWeekly (for most of our videos we have extensive ongoing written features with more information buddhaweekly.com.) From the Hayagriva feature: buddhaweekly.com/?p=8655 ) The world’s sixty-four power places The practice of Hayagriva is a living tradition. Although most Vajrayana practices generate the mandala of a visualized deity, then re-absorb the visualization, the mandala of Hayagriva and Vajravarahi (His consort) is a living one. The sacred places still exist in our world. It is for this reason Hayagriva practice is considered so powerful, and alive. Because these places still manifest, Hayagriva’s blessings are very powerful. It is for this reason Hayagriva is often called the “Ruler of the Worlds.” “There is something very profound to be understood here,” explained Orgyen Tobgyal in a teaching on the Wang Du. [For a feature on the Wang Du - the Great Cloud of Blessings, see>>] “According to the Nyingmapas, all the victorious ones produced Glorious Hayagriva and Vajravarahi, who then relied on the skilful method of union free from attachment, and annihilated and liberated Matam Rudra. “They scattered the remains of Rudra’s body throughout the world’s sixty-four power places - twenty-four sacred places, thirty-two sacred lands and eight great charnel grounds - all of which are sacred to Hayagriva and Vajravarahi. Each place is guarded by a chief daka and dakini, who were emanated by Hayagriva and Vajravarahi. As their mandalas have yet to be dissolved, each place continues to be guarded and preserved as sacred fields of the profound Dharma. The qualities of these profound Dharma fields are such that, through the power and blessings of the dakas and dakinis, by visiting just one of them, males will be blessed and become members of the daka family, and females will be blessed and become members of the dakini family. So, “Hosts of vajra dakas and dakinis who attract and magnetize” means not only all these dakas and dakinis, but also all those mentioned in the Chakrasamvara teachings.” [15] Note: Matam Rudra is Egoism as attached to the gross physical body. [See next section.] Internal Sacred Places The “battles” with worldly demons can be seen as metaphors for overcoming our own demons and attachments. Rudra here is not to be confused with the Vedic deity Rudra, as explained on Khandro.net: “There is a distinction between Rudra, the Vedic storm god who is Lord of Chaos (Skt. samhara-shakti, Form-loosening Energy) and the kind of being which Woodroffe designated with the spelling, “Rutra.” That one is a type of being that is essentially evil; not a devata of a celestial paradise. It is what is known as an adh’atma - a soul on a lower, destructive, path with “disintegrating propensities” that Chaos uses for its own ends.”[17] Hayagriva overcomes Matam Rudra - Egoism - demonstrating the power of the Wisdom of Discernment (the Wisdom of the Padma or Lotus Family and Amitabha) in overcoming our Attachments (the Poison of Desire.) For this reason, in completion and body mandala practices - more advanced Highest Yoga Tantra methods - these sacred places are associated with internal sacred places in the body (channels in the internal body.) The sacred places are associated with body mandala practices as well. Of the sixty four places, as noted by Ogyen Tobgyal Rinpoche, there are twenty-four sacred places, thirty-two sacred lands and eight great charnel grounds. Other sources, such as the sadhana of Yumka Dechen Gyalmo from the Longchen Nyingtik, give a different versions of these sacred places, for example: “They abide on the vajra-body inherent in every sentient being, which is symbolized here by the body of Vajrayogini.”[16] The sacred places are also explained in the Hevajra Tantra and Chakrasamvara Tantras. There is no contradiction between the various teachings. The emphasis in Hayagriva (the wrathful Heruka of the Lotus Padma family) is overcoming our desires and attachments - a key teaching going back to the Four Noble Truths of Shakyamuni Buddha. Generally, the twenty-four external (world sacred places) are: Jālandhara Oddiyana Paurnagiri Kamarupa Malaya Sindhu Nagara Munmuni Karunyapataka Devikota Karmarapataka Kulata Arbuta Godavari Himadri Harikela Lampaka Kani Saurasta Kalinga Kokana Caritra Kosala Vindhyakaumarapaurika In addition there are the Eight Great Charnel grounds: The Sitavana Cool Grove (in the East) Perfected in Body (in the South) Lotus Mound (in the West) Lanka Mound (in the North) Spontaneously Accomplished Mound (in the South-East) Display of Great Secret (in the South-West) Pervasive Great Joy (in the North-West) World Mound (in the North-East). Hope that helps. In kindness, BW

Every teacher has their own wisdom. I suggest you be guided by your own tradition and teacher. Generally, however, most Buddhas of the Padma (Lotus) family are all-embracing compassion. This specific mantra, of Hayagriva, the teacher guidance in the Gelug tradition was that it is fine and helpful to accumulate mantras for the benefit of all beings -- what is not fine, is self-generating. The advice is to generate in front of you. Yes, there are mantras that are not good to recite, even if you "front generate" but this is not generally considered one of them. However, in a different tradition, I have seen teachers say not to recite Hayagriva or your may have obstacles. Again, it's best to be guided by your own teachers. My own teacher has said it is fine to recite with front generation - and that is all the advice I need to hear:-)
