The pig scene in spirited away is on another level when it comes to its insightful appeal to children. Watching it for the first time, I truly felt that it accurately showed that innate fear of abandonment that most children have; how we fear that they won't listen to us or won't trust us when we truly need them to. It was a common theme in my nightmares, even. One of the only movies that makes me recall ancient feelings like that. Truly a masterpiece

Watching that scene as a kid was a truly terrifying experience, like as if I was recalling the future where this would actually take place between me and my parents - and in fact it did. Throughout my childhood there were times where I would be miserably misunderstood and excluded by the adults and this scene would haunt me in my sleep. Insane how Miyazaki expressed such feeling.

"Disney is such a big company. They're very keen to having everything in their vault." On point. This is what happened and what everyone is saying now!

He's not predicting anything. Disney when it became big, around the time they released Snow White, as a company was always power and control hungry. Disney is the main reason Copy Right law is the way it is right now, and they will be pushing it again in their favor. BTW, nice mis-quote, he said they "are very keen to have everything in the world."

I really would like to find an interview where Miyazaki talks about serious things. The way he portrays love, nature and childhood innocence is really appealing to me. He deserves much better interviews.

I was actually thinking the same. I kept looking him up but still can’t t find any good really insightful interviews. I like him because he is very deep and his movies aren’t sugary even for kids. They are not dumbed down or “little kiddish”. Before watching Spirited Away I had no idea cartoons and animation could be so Deep and moving. I always saw animation has sort of slap stick or always shallow.

There is a documentary named 10 years with Hayao Miyazaki consisting of 4 episodes. You should check it out. It shows his creative and production process and him reflecting on life as he works on his animations. I enjoyed it very much.

@@aaronying4989 It is VERY difficult to find interviews in video form with Miyazaki. That might be a Japanese thing on the whole, kinda.

@@FreshTillDeath56 oh yeah I was hoping there was more!! I loved the behind the scenes at the studio making Spirited Away. There’s not much else. I’ve read quotes by him but it’s not much. But he really helps with like creative process and stuff!!

no he commented what the interviewer said at the end lmao. I don’t completely agree with you though. Because what Miyazaki is portraying is that food is so often disrespected and not appreciated enough anymore. He’s not saying they’re eating too much but, more so the way they eat is terrible. It is nice to offer a piece of cake and some tea when an interviewer visits, on top of that he appreciated it, it’s nowhere near what Miyazaki tried conveying in spirited away

The feeling of the pig scene is one that is indescribable to anyone, but a child, maybe not even to a child. One that you can only feel in a dream as you age, deep in your subconscious and unsaid fears. It has been my favorite movie ever since I've seen it, as a child, and I'm realizing now that it is because I felt truly heard.

I think my favorite scene is the trip to Zeniba, where we look out at the sea while the train drives. And the stops to see the spirits reuniting with their lost ones. An incredible, eternal movie. My favorite as well. ;)
