Vraiment le Maître a parlé comme s'il avait consulté Mozart, voir qu'il était son professeur ! Bravo Haydn ! Les Anges du ciel sont avec toi mon Grand Maître !

The first movement is very interesting. It reminds me some Mozart's symphonies.

sergeyyak It’s the very Mozartian rhythm at the start of the first movement - the dotted marching rhythm in the horns on the second beat of the bar along with the three crotchets - Haydn only rarely uses this rhythm, Mozart uses it all the time, especially in his later works. That apart, the symphony is actually very *un-* Mozartian, probably the main reason it so appealed to him; Mozart did in fact know this symphony, and jotted down the first few notes - along with incipits of Symphonies 62 and 75 - with the intention of performing them at his concerts. The work is full of details Mozart would have found fascinating - it is a fantastic work; however, I would suggest that what Mozart found so interesting about it is precisely the fact that it is so unlike anything he himself wrote.
